The 36-year-old reality star and her 18-year-old child could pass for twin sisters in the latest set of selfies posted on the former Real Housewives Of Atlanta cast member's Instagram account on Thursday.


The mother-of-six couldn't have said it better herself when she captioned one of the photo.

28 children die of lead poisoning in Niger state

The Federal Government has confirmed the death of 28 children following a fresh outbreak of lead poisoning in Niger state.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the latest incident had brought the number of deaths from lead poisoning in the country to 191, including 139 children. A total of 420 cases were recorded in Zamfara and Niger states, respectively.

Briefing newsmen on the latest development in Abuja, the Minister of State for Health, Mr Fidelis Nwankwo, said that 68 fresh cases of the lead poisoning were recorded in Kawo and Magiro villages of Rafi local government area of the state.

“Sixty eight cases have been recorded as at May 12, 2015, and 28 deaths had occurred giving the case of fertility rate of 43 per cent,” said Nwankwo

According to him, all the deceased were children below the age of five and comprised 17 females and 11 males. He said the affected children were found to have a high serum lead level between 17 and 22 times higher than the acceptable limits established by the World Health Organisation.

The minister, however, said that the federal government adopted an eight-point strategy to tackle the situation upon receipt of the report from the Niger Government.

Nwankwo listed the measures to include advocacy meetings with the affected community leaders on the dangers of economic activities involving mining.


“We have commenced non-specific, palliative treatment of the sick children in Kagara hospital.
“We also commenced the process of incident command structure to enhance coordination of the outbreak response.

“Mobilisation of health facilities in Niger and Zamfara states to commence chelation of clinically ill children in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

NAN recalls that the last lead poisoning case was recorded in Zamfara between March and June 2010, which claimed 163 lives, including 111 children. The incident recorded 355 cases

Father Cuts Daughter’s Leg With Hot Knife, Flees .

The father of a 17-year-old girl, identified simply as Senami, is on the run after allegedly cutting his daughter’s leg with a hot knife.

It was learnt that the father, who was identified only as Azama, tortured the girl, who hawks Dokunu (local dish), for returning home late on Sunday, May 4.She was said to have returned home earlier on the fateful day, but went back to collect payment from some customers who bought Dokunu on credit.

Our correspondent was told that Senami’s explanation to her father fell on deaf ears. He reportedly tied her with a rope and used the hot knife on her left leg.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Senami had helped her stepmother, Rukayat, to hawk the goods, which she usually did in the evening every day.

Senami lives with the couple in the Badagry area of Lagos.It was also learnt that a seven-year-old girl, Aliat Musa, also lives with the couple.

She was said to have been tortured by Rukayat. Musa, who is Rukayat’s cousin, sustained injury in the head during one of the tortures.

It was said that the injuries drew attention of the teachers in the school which Senami attended. One of her teachers, it was learnt, took her to a social welfare office in Badagry.

The teacher later took her to the Ajeromi Police Station, where the case was reported.Senami, an indigene of Benin Republic, said, “On May 4, after I came back from hawking, daddy (Azama) ordered me to go back and collect the N500 my customers owed me.

 I came back home late. I did not know my father had put a knife on the fire.

He tied my leg and started stabbing me with the knife.“When I got to the school the following day, my teacher, Mr. Okoafose, took me to a welfare office and we all went to a police station.”An employee of the welfare organisation, who preferred not to be named, said the victim was “utterly abused.”


She said, “The subject (Senami) reported that she hawked Dokunu every day after school. This is a clear case of child abuse. It is high time parents stopped this inhumane act. We will ensure that the father is arrested.”While Azama is still at large, his wife was arrested for assaulting Musa.


She was arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court.Appearing before the presiding magistrate, Mr. P.A. Adekomaya, on Thursday, Rukayat pleaded guilty to the two counts preferred against her by a prosecutor, Inspector Olusoji Ojaokoma.

The magistrate subsequently sentenced her to three months of community service.

Adekomaya said, “Upon the quilty plea by the accused, she is sentenced to three months community service to be carried out at the Badagry General Hospital.

How An 8-year-old Girl Was Deflowered And Abused By 70-year-old Man In Lagos.

An Ikeja High Court in Lagos yesterday heard how a 70-year-old man, Tajudeen Shoneye, sexually abused an eight-year-old girl for three days.

A consultant Paediatrician with Lagos State General Hospital, Dr Edem Duke, said victim was brought to the hospital in 2013 limping and looking pale.

The witness said: “I work with Gbagada General Hospital and have been very familiar with children working as a Paediatrician for over 10 years.“In June 2013, a little girl was brought to the hospital. She was eight years old.

 It was in the evening and she came with two female adults. The women with her said they were her teachers in school and said they were worried with the way she always withdrew to herself.

“So I examined her medically and discovered that her vagina had bruises and her hymen was broken which meant she had had sexual contact with somebody.

”Led in evidence by the prosecutor, Akin George, the witness said she carried out a series of test on the victim.

“I asked her to run other tests like urine and HIV tests. She complained that she was sexually abused for three days by an old man in her neighbourhood.

So we sent her for a series of other tests and a psychologist,” the witness added.Shoneye was arraigned on May 13, on one-count charge of “defilement” of an under age girl.The prosecution said the offence committed on June 15, 2013 contravened to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

The defendant pleaded not guilty and was ordered remanded in prison by Justice Atinuke Ipaye.Justice Ipaye has however adjourned the matter till June 4, 2015.

BUHARI SAYS 'JONATHAN HAS NOT GIVEN ME ANY USEFUL TIPS'.........

President-elect Muhammadu Buhari says the outgoing Goodluck Jonathan government hasnt given him any advise on how to kick-start his administration on May 29.
He made this statement on Thursday when a committee from the Centre for Human Security of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, presented a five-point policy document to him at the Buhari Support Organisation office in Abuja.

Hours before the event which held behind closed doors, the All Progressives Congress,accused the Federal Government of not cooperating with the transition committee set up by the President-elect.


“Buhari regretted that the outgoing government that is supposed to give him tips on how to take off has done nothing so far,” Garba Shehu, the Director of Media and Publicity of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation, told journalists after the presentation by the committee.


Shehu added that the President-elect “thanked the Obasanjo initiative for the gesture, assuring the committee that his incoming administration will be needing advice as time goes on.”
Areas covered by committee in the   document    include the economy, security, power, education and infrastructure.


Earlier on Thursday , the APC described as untrue, a statement credited to the spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party, Oliseh Metuh, that the   Jonathan administration was cooperating with the transition committee constituted by the President-elect.


It also described Metuh in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, as a man with “an incurable disdain for truth.”


The PDP spokesman had   in the said statement accused the APC of raising a false alarm over happenings within the Jonathan and the Buhari transition committees.
However, Mohammed insisted that the uncooperative attitude of the Jonathan team   had continued despite its public posturing.


The   APC statement Read, “We say with all sense of responsibility that as of today, May 14, 2015, just about two weeks to the May 29 handover date, no shred of information as to the status of governance from any ministry, department or agency of government has been given to our transition committee.”


“If that qualifies, in Metuh’s lexicon, as cooperation, then there is a problem somewhere. We dare Metuh or anyone for that matter, to controvert the fact that not a line of handover note has been handed over to our transition committee.”

Malaysia Sentence Nigerian Female Student To Death For Drug Trafficking

On May 14Thirty-year-old Mary George Unazi, a Nigerian student was on Thursday sentenced to death by hanging after she was found guilty of trafficking 765.9g of metamphetamine.

 The female student was caught with the drug four years ago with the drug at the KL International Airport (KLIA) four years ago.Judge Datuk Ghazali Cha while delivering his judgement said, the prosecution counsel has been able to prove its case against the private college Student beyond reasonable doubt.

 Judge Cha also said, the accused has not been able to lprove that the bag in which the drug was found was not hers.

MAJOR MARKETERS SAYS FUEL SCARCITY MAY PERSIST BEYOND MAY 29......

Fuel Scarcity May Persist Beyond May 29 –

Major oil marketers and depot petroleum products marketers on Thursday said that the current fuel scarcity in the country might persist beyond May 29, if the Federal Government failed to pay their outstanding claims on subsidy.

The Executive Secretary of Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, Obafemi Olawore, disclosed this at a media briefing with the newsmen in Lagos.


Mr. Olawore said the outstanding payment on subsidy and interest remained unpaid by government and this had led to its members’ inability to import petroleum products in the last few days.

According to him, the scarcity may also persist beyond the hand over date that will usher in a new political administration of Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).“

Because of the huge outstanding that we have; because we have not been able to pay back the loan we have taken, because our suppliers are not too confident, we are unable to bring fresh import..

“Whatever we have now is what we have received from NNPC and it is the small quantity that we have from NNPC, that is why you see all the trucks in Lagos scrambling for them.

Mr. Olawore said unless the over N200 billion that the government owed both MOMAN and DAPPMA was paid, scarcity might persist beyond May 29.

The Executive Secretary of Depot and Petroleum Products Marketing Association (DAPPMA), Olufemi Adewole, also said the Federal Government owed its members more than N200 billion.

He said that out of its 40 members, only 24 participate in the subsidy programme, adding that all its members had been paid subsidy while only six out of 24 had been paid their interest.

The Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had on May 3, said the Federal Government was not owing the marketers up to N200 billion.

She said that after paying the marketers N154 billion a week earlier, the government was only aware of N131 billion outstanding payment.(NAN)
