■ ‘I was raped by every member of the cult on the day of my initiation’
■ She was lucky only 20 slept with her –Male student suspect

In recent times, the police have beamed their searchlight on cult activities across the country. This has led to several raids that have yielded results in Lagos, Anam­bra and Rivers states, as cultists were rounded up in their hundreds. Among those arrested was a 16-year-old girl, Ifechukwu Atunanya, who claimed that she was forced to sleep with every male member of the cult during her initiation. Recovered from them were guns, matchet and several wraps of Indian hemp.

Ifechukwu was among 75 suspected cult members who were rounded up by Anambra State Police command on July 3, 2015. All the suspects were alleged to be members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity and were all arrested in a bush in Awka during the initia­tion of new members.

According to the state Commissioner of Police, Hosea Karma, the police acted on an intelligence report that the cult members and their new entrants were in a bush performing some rituals. The raid was conducted by the Anti-Cultism Squad led by Supol Dickson Osamuonyi.

Part of their ritual, he explained, includes sleeping with female intending members. He said they do that in order to secure their oath of secrecy. It was during the raid that 16-year-old Ifechukwu was arrested.

At the police station, Ifechukwu, a second­ary school dropout and member, claimed that she had to travel to Anambra from Abuja just to witness the initiation of new members. “I joined them three months ago and during my initiation, I was forced to have sex with every registered member of the cult present that night. I was given a sedative so as not to feel what they were doing. It was not easy, but I bore the pain,” she said.

Her parents, who are from Anambra State, are still alive. However, Ifechukwu said that they were not aware of her secret cult ac­tivities. “I got to know about the cult activity through a friend. She assured me that all the connection that I needed in this life will be made if I joined the group. I am from a poor family and I wanted to be the light that will change the situation in my family.

“She never told me that I will be raped till the day of initiation. The day we were initiated, I was the only girl in their midst. Al­though, I have not started reaping the gains, I was determined to be a successful member. I was further convinced to stay because I dis­covered that they are more honourable than the others. I am sorry and would love to be given the opportunity to go back to school. I never knew that it is crime to be a member. I am sorry,” Ifechukwu pleaded.

Another member, Ugochukwu Agbazuo, who also spoke with Saturday Sun, said that they are all undergraduates of various institu­tions in Anambra. “Apart from some of our national leaders, we are all students. I was ini­tiated into the cult while I was still in my first year. I had no choice but to join them because of the harassment in school. I discovered that most of the Engineering students in my school were members of different cult groups.

“Again, if you identify with a known cult in school, the lecturers will respect you. You don’t have to buy handouts or offer bribe to get credit in a course. This was why I joined them,” he said.

Ugochukwu insisted that they did not steal or harass innocent people. “The guns that were found with us were bought in case there was a clash in school. It is our leaders who are all graduates and working across the country that normally assist us to secure the arms. It is strictly for defence and one of the rules of our group is that you must read and pass your exams on merit.”

On the issue of rape, Ugochukwu said it only happened with female members. A fe­male intending member cannot undergo the rigorous process during the initiation. So, our leaders suggested that the best way to get them under oath is for every registered mem­ber to have sex with her during initiation. She would be semi-conscious during the process so that she will not physically feel the pain. Ifechukwu’s case was better because we were only 20 registered men present on her day of initiation. All of our female members were raped,” he further said.

In Rivers, 201 arrested

Also in Rivers State, detectives attached to the Anti-Robbery and kidnapping squad ar­rested over 127 suspected cultists while the Anti-cultism section rounded up over 74 oth­ers base in Port Harcourt. The state Com­missioner of Police, Chris Ezike who confirmed their arrest, explained that the command was embarrassed by the high wave of kidnapping and armed robbery incident in the state. “We launched Oper­ation Keep Moving which was flagged off by Rivers State Governor, Barrister Nye­som Wike on July 2, 2015. The Operation Keep Moving is proving to be a success. We will not stop or be complacent, the march is on and we must deliver on our promise to make Rivers State peaceful, secure and safe. Investigation revealed that most of them were also notorious armed robber and kidnappers who had unleashed terror in the state in the past.

“We recovered several AK 47 rifles, locally made guns, locally made revolver pistols; several pump action and 12 mo­torcycles. Meanwhile, they have different cult groups known as Dey-Gbam, Dey-well, Iceland and Vikings. The suspects will be charged to court at the end of in­vestigation,” CP Ezike said.

In Lagos, 38 were arrested

In Lagos, policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) arrested 38 suspects who were alleged to be members of cult groups in Somolu area of the state. The team had responded to distress calls from concerned citizens about criminal activities and other unlawful engagements in the area. According to the tip-off, the suspected cult members had announced that they were going to initiate new mem­bers of public who were interested. The team of RRS operatives, headed by Supol Olabode Aroge, immediately moved to scene. Those arrested were 29 male and nine females. They were immediately conveyed to the squad’s headquarters in Alausa, for further interrogation.

Following police’s investigation, the suspects were said to among cultists and social miscreants disturbing the area. “The suspects are terrorizing law abiding citizens in the area while some of them are specialists in bag and handsets snatch­ing, pick-pocketing and such other nefari­ous activities both in the and day and at night.

He Wants To Kill Me With Marathon Sex —wife Tells Court

A middle-aged woman, Soliat Adekojo, has taken her husband, Musibau, before a Grade ‘C’ Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of Oyo State, over excessive sexual desire by her husband.

The plaintiff, a trader, who lives at Amuloko Area, of Ibadan, said her husband seduced her about five years ago, adding that the marriage was blessed with a child.
According to her, “I wish to divorce my husband because he is fond of sex. All he knows in his life is sex and is not an ordinary desire, but a marathon sex.

 He used to have sexual intercourse with me at least six days of the week and it may be twice a day. He does not give me rest of mind. He monitors me around.
“Whenever I refused to allow him, he would beat me mercilessly. I have told him on several occasions that I am not fit for marathon sex,  but he refused to listen.

 “On any occasion he had sexual intercourse with me, he uses his singlet and pant to clean my private part and whenever he did this, I would not be okay and may fall sick sometimes.

“On  July4, I told him I would not be able to continue  to have marathon sex with him again because of my health; he panicked immediately and told me I will have to leave his house, and that before I leave,he would surely deal with me.

“I called my brother, Biodun Adebayo, to inform him about the situation of things, he came to my rescue and my husband’s mother told my brother that he should take me away from the plaintiff because she could not handle the situation.

“I later got to know through his mother that I am the plaintiff’s ninth wife. A week after I left his house, the plaintiff came with the police to arrest my brother, that I conspired with my brother to steal his N2.5 million.

“My brother was detained in police custody for three days but I was bailed the second day by one of the plaintiff’s daughters, Sakirat. Sakirat explained to the police that her father (the plaintiff) was lying about his claim of stolen money.

“Last year June, my husband’s friend, Alhaji Adebolu, called me to inform me that  my husband had parked all my belongings to his house. He explained that he also told him that he did want to see me and his son again.

“I later went to his friend’s house to park my things. A week after, I fell sick to the extent that I was referred to a psychiatric hospital for a brain examination because they said I was always mentioning the plaintiff’s name during the sickness.
“My Lord, while passing through this sickness, the plaintiff did not for once ask after me or his only son.
“Early this year, the plaintiff arrested my brother again and he was detained at Agodi Prison for six days. He continuously threatened everyone around me with arrest.
 “My Lord, I am fed up with this relationship. Please, separate us. I don’t want to die now.”
The defendant, Musibau, an Alfa, while responding to the allegations, said he admitted the claims of the plaintiff, but did not want the court to give the plaintiff the custody of the child because she cannot take care of him.
“My Lord, that’s all I want to say,” he said.
 President of the court, Chief Agbaje Olasunkami, in his ruling said: “Having observed the evidence given by both parties, the court rules thus: the divorce on repayment of bride price is hereby granted with immediate effect.”
The court ordered that the plaintiff should continue to have the custody of the child and that the defendant must be paying N3, 000 monthly to the plaintiff as feeding allowance of the child until the child attains grown up.

Family crime :Brother stabs elder sibling to death over dirty dishes

Tragedy struck on Majente Street, in Akute, Ogun State, when Ekene, the younger brother of 25-year-old Kenneth Chikwado Agbamone stabbed him to death following an al­tercation about washing dirty plates.

Kenneth and Ekene had a heated argument because the younger one failed to wash dirty plates the family ate with earlier in the evening.

Trouble began when Kenneth returned from a church service that fateful night of July 14, 2015, at 9pm, and promptly observed that his young­er brother, Ekene did not wash the dirty plates stacked in the kitchen.

Incidentally, the church where Kenneth was a member had declared a one-day fasting and prayer programme, which he participated in, and went to church later in the day for the normal congregational prayer to end the fasting.

Before leaving for the church service, he had cooked rice, and served his mother, who was roasting and selling corn in the street, where the family lives. So returning from the church service and seeing that Ekene did not wash the dirty dishes, he got angry and demanded that the younger brother should promptly wash the plates. Ekene allegedly re­fused to do so. This result­ed in a heated argument between them. At some point, Kenneth, it was said, drew his belt and hit Ekene twice and left the house to buy sachet water.

However, doom awaited him at home. Ekene was still seething with rage. He was said to have taken a knife from the kitchen, held it behind his back and hid behind the door, waiting for Kenneth to return. The moment Kenneth walked through the door, Ekene stabbed him on the left side of his chest. Meanwhile, their mother, Cynthia, was taking her bath at the time. As she came into the house from the bathroom, Cynthia found her son on the ground in a pool of his blood. It was her prolonged scream of anguish that rented the air and attracted neighbours, who rushed in to find out what was wrong in the Agbamone home.

Soon word of the death of Kenneth spread fast in the neighbourhood and people trooped into the street to behold Kenneth’s body that was laid in the middle of the street before it was taken to the hospital.

At the hospital, a drama played out as the medical facility refused to handle the case, claiming that it was only a maternity clinic and ill-equipped for the emergency. However, the doctor in-charge briefly examined the victim and noted that he had been stabbed and was brought in lifeless.

Sunday Sun gathered from a neighbour of the Agbamone’s that Ekene was said to have fainted when some men wrestled him to the ground, to prevent him from running away. After he passed out, they left him near the drainage. But when he regained consciousness, he still looked dazed, not knowing where he was or how he got there. When he was told that he stabbed Kenneth in the chest, and that he had been taken to the clinic, he seemed hor­rified and ran to the clinic, where he learnt that his el­der brother had died from the fatal injuries caused by the stabbing.

The source further disclosed that it was the clinic that alerted the nearest police station after confirming that the victim was dead, and requested that a team be dispatched to investigate the matter. But a police officer at the station was said to have retorted that the available patrol van had no fuel in it. This response, Sunday Sun gathered, prompted the doctor to go in person to the station to file a re­port, but he was allegedly beaten by the police. Moreover, a female auxil­iary nurse attached to the clinic was similarly beaten, while one of the male staff was detained at the station overnight. However, all attempts to speak to the doctor in charge of the maternity clinic proved abortive.

A female member of the church where Kenneth be­longed, who happens to be familiar with the family blamed his mother for the unfortunate incident, ar­guing that she had laid the foundation for the tragic incident because of the bad way she raised Ekene, the second son and youngest child, who she claimed was over-pampered.

Her words: “Kenneth was the one that would clean and arrange the house, fetch water, sweep, and do everything even though he had younger siblings, who didn’t do any domestic chores. They would just leave every­thing for him to do. If the mother had cautioned the younger brother, I don’t think this incident would have happened. This is a big lesson for all parents to love all their children equally. The siblings never did anything, even the neighbours would testify to this. I heard the mother crying that she can’t live without Kenneth, who was like a woman at home.”

One of the residents in the area told Sunday Sun that Ekene was allegedly known to smoke Indian hemp and run around with touts in the neigh­bourhood. As at the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of the father of the children, could not be established as he was said not to be living with the family in Ogun State. A neighbour said of him, “He is not around, he doesn’t live here.”

Other neighbours said that Kenneth was a young man who loved preach­ing the word of God to people in the streets. Hours before his death, he was said to have preached to two young men smoking cigarettes and urged them to receive Christ as their saviour.

A friend of his, Lanre, who owns a barbing salon, also revealed that late Kenneth had prayed hard for a job. He disclosed that on the day of his death, Kenneth had gotten two calls from two separate places, where he was invited to take up em­ployment as a barber and hairstylist. According to him, Kenneth knew how to cut hair but was reluctant to work for people because it didn’t bring in enough. He wanted to start up his own business so he could take care of himself.

Lanre further said: “Kenneth believed in God. He had great faith. When he saw girls around me, he always advised them not to go after men, and to dress decently. He was a brilliant man; his spoken English was sound, so I got close to him. He regularly came to my salon to give people haircuts, and any money he made, he would give me to support my shop.”

Kenneth was the first of his mother’s three children. He had a younger sister, Ogechi, and Ekene, the alleged culprit, who is now at large. All efforts made to speak with the bereaved mother of Kenneth were unsuccessful.

The deceased was de­scribed by friends, church members and neighbours as “a loving, gentle and easy going fellow who never wore a frown on his face despite his circumstances.”

Tongues are wagging in Lagos State especially Ikorodu, over how a young lady who was said to have been so expressive of her womanhood and was full of life falls victim of ritualists.

The incident that happened on Thursday 13th of August, 2015 according to reports has it that the lady was said to be one of the happening babes in town, although she likes doing her things in her own little way.

Arewa (pseudonym) in her twenties had allegedly gone out in answer to a call from an Aristo where we learnt she finally met her waterloo.

An eye witness/road side trader who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed thus:
“ I was attending to one of my customers when a middle aged man pack his car in front of me at Benson Bus/stop, Ikorodu to drop a lady and before I could blink my eyes; the man had jumped in the car and zoomed off.

I noticed the lady he drops look pale and weak but I thought maybe she’s not feeling too well. I was still trying to open up conversation with her when she started vomiting blood. I alerted people that are around and in a twinkle of an eye, over hundreds of people gathered around her.

At the initially stage, we thought it was a medical condition and we were trying to rush her to the hospital when one Alfa that also witnessed the incident after doing some prayers for the lady hinted us that the lady has been used by ritualists and her chance of surviving is very slim.” The road side trader squealed.

She further said: “We were still trying to do all we could to save her from dying when a particular woman recognized the lady and quickly rushed to her parent’s house to inform them about their daughter’s plight.

About 20 minutes later, the lady’s parents came to Benson Bus-stop and use a car to whisk their daughter away.

What I truly don’t know is if the lady survives the incident or not cos I couldn’t leave my market to follow them.” The trader concluded

However, people around Benson Bus-Stop also unanimously agree that the lady’s unadulterated fun seeking lifestyle helped fan the flames that caused her recent ordeals.

News News :FG monitors Nigerians’ Facebook, Twitter accounts

The Federal Government has been monitoring the social media accounts of Nigerians who are suspected of having links with various terrorist groups, including Boko Haram and the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq, findings by SUNDAY PUNCH have shown.

Our correspondent learnt that through covert operations, which have been going on for a while, security agencies hack into the Facebook and Twitter accounts of those they are monitoring.

The move, it was learnt, was meant to frustrate terrorist attacks on the country.

The project, which is costing the country millions of dollars, is being managed by the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Multiple sources, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to inform the press about the security checks, stated that the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan approved the request by security agencies to spy on targeted sections of the population, mainly religious extremists and radicalised individuals.

It was gathered that the project is being coordinated by some foreign firms, including an Israeli firm, Elbit System.

Our correspondent learnt that the local espionage involves hacking of phones, email accounts, social media accounts and bugging of telephone conversations of persons of interest.

A source said, “The surveillance system is not being used to target everyone, as people may want to believe. It is only deployed to get intelligence on specific targets because it would be hard and difficult to use such system to spy on all Nigerians; the amount of data would be too huge and staggering for the assessors to sort and manage.

“Basically, the system is used to hack into emails and phones of targets, and the targets are those who are suspected of having ties with terrorists, whether Boko Haram, ISIS or any other criminal element.”

It was also learnt that the system had greatly assisted security agencies to nip in the bud and also frustrate many terror plots and attacks across the country.

The security agencies had been using electronic trackers, which they were used to track and apprehend kidnappers.

But it was learnt that the electronic surveillance system is more effective and has better capacities to hack emails, passwords and social media accounts used by terrorists to recruit members.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, confirmed that security agencies were using a sophisticated surveillance system as part of measures to combat crime and terrorism in the country.

He said, “It is not a new technology. Everywhere in the world, it is used, including drones and other sophisticated equipment. Nigeria is part of the international community; we have our surveillance system, which shows that Nigeria is developing.”

Ojukwu said the security agencies respect the rights of Nigerians and were not using the system to hack the phones and computers of innocent Nigerians.

The Department of State Services could not be reached for information on their use of the surveillance system.

Houseboy injures spinal cord while peeping at madam bathing

26-year-old domestic worker, Ubong Etu Nbomang, has injured his spinal cord while peeping at his female boss while she was having her bath.

He has been hospitalised at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, Delta State, after falling and breaking his spine.

His boss is a top federal civil servant in one of the neighbouring states. The houseboy was alleged to have made holes around the bathroom door, through which he peeped at his boss whenever she was having a shower.

Our correspondent learnt that Nbomang had climbed on a platform to have a vantage view of his boss who is in her 30s.

A female friend to Nbomang’s boss, was said to have walked in and met nobody in the sitting room.

On hearing the sound of dropping water, she approached her friend’s bathroom out of curiosity, only to find the young man peeping.

The boss’s friend, (name withheld), who spoke to our correspondent after the incident, said as Nbomang was peeping, he held his private organ.

The guest, who trades in cooking utensils at the Ogbeogonogo Modern Market, said she shouted at him: “Nbomang, are you peeping at your madam?”

Nbomang, jumped off where he was and slipped on the wet tiled floor when he heard the visitor’s voice.

The unsuspecting boss, who was shocked by her worker’s groans, was said to have rushed out of the bathroom half-naked.

Her friend, while speaking to our correspondent, said, “I said to her: ‘So, you are not aware he has been here watching you as you were busy having your bath? I met him peeping, after asking for who was in the house without any response. I have been here for more than 15 minutes now without him knowing.”’

As she was telling her friend all these, Nbomang, still groaning in pains, asked his boss to forgive him and take him to hospital.

“Out of pity, the madam called her driver to take Nbomang to a hospital, while she later joined them at the hospital,” her friend added.

Speaking with our correspondent at the FMC, the boss, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said she was going to sack him.

She said, “Before now, I used to see him looking at me but I didn’t think otherwise because I saw it as nothing. It was when he was confessing that I got to know that he was the one that bore tiny holes on my door, which until this incident I never knew of.”

Nbomang, who also spoke to our correspondent from his hospital bed, pleaded, “Help me beg my madam, na devil work. Na my madam beauty deceive me.”

Fast-rising Yoruba actress, Empress Anu Sosanya would describe herself as a simple person but one with everything but a simple dream. 

Her dream is to be one of the biggest stars there is, and she appears good on her way, as she already has a number of good movies to her credit. In this chat, she talks about her career, love and the industry.

What was growing up like?

My growing up was awesome, but at the same time, rough. I lived with my mother who had to cater for her eight children. We went through thick and thin then, but I thank God that today, the story has changed. My siblings and I are doing well in our various fields.

Did your mother okay your going into acting?

Convincing my family took a lot of effort. It was only my sister who bought into my dream from the beginning. I had to organise a family conference to plead my case. My mother insisted I had to go to a tertiary school before I would be allowed to act. I studied marketing at the Lagos State University. Surprisingly, we have marketers too in film production. So it all works together, I don’t feel bad about it all.

What went wrong between your parents?

It’s their issue because I was still a baby then.

Didn’t you bother to ask questions?

We grew up living like that. Though, we spent sometime with him which I’d say wasn’t fun at all. We always had to come back to my mother.

Did your father re-marry?

It is not as though he married another woman, my dad is a flirt. Even as an old man, he is still fresh and cute. He gets women at his beck and call.

At what point did you miss the “father” figure in your life?

I missed him as a child especially during parents -teachers meeting in my school. I saw my mates with their mum and dad having fun. And due to the nature of my mum’s job, she wasn’t always available. The pressure was too much on my mum, though she never made us feel my dad’s absence. I love her for that. I don’t wish my daughter such an experience.

How did you get the name ‘Empress’?

It was through a friend who encouraged me. We became friends after he saw my first production. One day, he called me and told me “You are an Empress and don’t let people oppress you, build an empire each time”. So my first BBM name was Empress Anu Sosanya and since then, the name stuck.

What’s your view about the industry?

We are not there yet because I see a lot missing. I hardly watch Nollywood these days. I don’t want to sound like I’m condemning our industry, but we have to work more on our films. Our story-lines, costumes, and our subtitles to mention a few, need to be checked and corrected. I agree that piracy is really killing the business, but we should not compromise our standard because of that.

Will you agree that another factor responsible for this is that our market is saturated?

I totally agree and that is because everybody wants to be an actress and also a producer. And not all of us went through training. We have many talents in Nollywood who want to showcase their talents but lack the opportunity. These people believe that producing their own movie will showcase them, but sometimes, they do poor quality movies due to lack of funds.

How about one person producing, directing and playing the lead role in a movie?

I don’t know much about that. I think that can be linked to cutting cost. An actor might decide to direct the movie instead of getting a director who will take away a large percentage of his capital. This kills the product itself. When a film lacks professional touch, it collapses. We should learn to know and understand our limits.

Are you married?

No, but I have a child.

How did it happen?

It just happened. So many people didn’t know I was pregnant. People say it is not too good having a child out of wedlock but I am a proud mother. I love my daughter to a fault. I am not encouraging people to have children out of wedlock though.

This seems to be a trend in Nollywood, what’s your opinion?

I don’t know about that, but I won’t have a baby simply because my colleagues have theirs out of wedlock. I do whatever pleases me and at my own convenience.

Have you ever been turned on while doing a movie role?

I am yet to meet that actor who will arouse me on set. I don’t get turned on easily. In fact when that happens, I will call for a press conference.

What turns you on?

I have not met that kind of man. It has to be natural, genuine, and delivered with ease.

How’s your sex life ?

Sex is communication, it is passing a message to one’s partner. If I’m in a relationship, I know it is not right to have sex outside marriage but I have to know and understand the sexual ability of my future partner. This is somebody I want to spend the rest of my life with. Sex is fun.

When was the last time you had sex?

It’s been a long time but I am looking for that relationship that will make me want to have sex every second and every minute. For now, I want to be very sure, I don’t want to have sex for the sake of having sex. I need a person that will not make me cry, take me for granted or let me down.

It seems you are heartbroken?

I am not. I am happy with what life has to offer.

The worst thing ever said or written about you?

It was when I shot my third production Edidi (The bond). Mercy Aigbe and I acted as lesbians. It later went viral that I was a lesbian. It didn’t really get to me because I know very well that we are not. I didn’t even lift a finger because of the story. I just let it go.

Have you had any reason to reject scripts?

Yes I have. Some script lack professionalism and being part of such film will only belittle me.

What is new on your plate?

I have a new film titled “Oluwere” which will soon hit the market. It is about a young lady whose father was too busy to have time for her, but only provides her money. Find out more when you watch the movie.
