Buhari Approves N70m For Nigeria's 55th Independence Anniversary
President Buhari has approved N70 million for the entire celebration of Nigeria 55th Independence Anniversary which is slated to commence fromSeptember 25, 2015.
Disclosing this at a press conference today, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, said the Federal government has decided that the independent anniversary would be celebrated low key, that is the reason only N70m was approved to take care of the entire celebration.
Lawal who was represented by the Permanent Secretary on Political Affairs, Mrs. Ibukun Odusute, explained that the reason for the low key celebration is because the present administration appreciate the economic hardship that Nigeria and indeed the nation is confronted today.
"What the President made clear is that we cannot have Nigerians in pains and unable to do what they are supposed to do by reason of our dwindling resources and then we are spending lavishly on celebrations. That has been his philosophy and principles, that it would not be fair to spend Nigeria's money that can be spent in paying salaries to people, making sure that children are comfortable in their various schools, providing enabling environment for businesses to thrive in the country and we will leave all that and spend large amount of money on celebration. He felt it was not a wise thing to do and we totally agreed with him. So, the main reason for low key is because of the state of the nation concerning our finances. This year's celebration is therefore in consonance with the cost-saving policy direction of this administration. The ceremony will commence with the Jummat Prayers on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 1.30pm, at the National Mosque in Abuja, the interdenominational thanksgiving service will hold on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 4pm, at the National Christian Worship Centre, while the ceremonial change of Guard will hold at the Presidential Villa at8.00am and the children's party will take place at the state house conference centre on October 3, 2015 at 3pm," he saidPresident Buhari will address the nation at 7amon October 1, 2015.
"As we look forward to our independence anniversary with deep and sober reflection, on how we can work together to return our country to prosperity. Let me seize the opportunity to wish our Muslim brothers and sisters and all Nigerians a happy Salah holiday."
FUNKE ADESIYAN BLASTS OMOTOLA OVER 'INAPPROPRIATE' OUTFIT (PHOTOS)
According to Nigeria Flims, Nollywood actress and politician, Funke Adesiyan, has defended her friend and colleague, Bimbo Thomas, who was criticised few days ago for wearing a swimsuit to a beach in Miami.
Funke, who dream of becoming a lawmaker in the Oyo State House of Assembly in 2015 ended at the primary of her party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressed that her friend was being picked on for reasons she cannot still explain.
Funke said, “I have read different blogs call my friend Bimbo Thomas different names for wearing a swimsuit to a beach, will she wear 'agbada' or what? I am confused, Omotola Jalade, a mother of four, wore a crop top, a style she should have left to her daughter and hypocrites hailed her as stunning. What could be more inappropriate?According to her, Omotola Ekeinde, who should have been lambasted for wearing an outfit her daughter should have worn, was praised by the media.
"We will do better by being real. Real time, real people. Bimbo is a beautiful person inside out. Sometimes her level of confidence almost intimidate me (believe me, not many people can intimidate me).
"Leave celebrities alone. We are humans too. We deserve every bit of happiness that comes our way. As for me, I make myself happy irrespective of how they make people feel. I am me and very original at it. Bimbo, please rock on and post more amazing pictures from your holiday.” I really don't see anything wrong with what she wore though *sigh*
Saraki’s case adjourned to October 21
The Code of Conduct Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Tuesday adjourned the false declaration of assets case involving the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to October 21.
The Senate President is facing a 13-count charge bordering on alleged false declaration of assets.
Saraki, who appeared at the tribunal on Tuesday, pleaded not guilty to all the charges when they were read out to him.
Counsel to both parties argued back and forth in a bid to swing the case in their favour.
Saraki’s lead counsel, Joseph Daudu (SAN), had earlier tried to stop the Senate President from taking his pleas in the dock.
After Saraki pleaded not guilty to the charges, the tribunal granted him bail on self-recognition.
The prosecution did not oppose the tribunal’s decision to release Saraki on bail.
The matter was later adjourned to October 21 by the presiding judge.

Meet the Man that Brutally Killed His Girlfriend For Screaming Her Ex's Name During
The 24-year-old brutally murdered his girlfriend Maria Nemeth by cutting open her stomach, disemboweling her by ripping out her intestines and ovaries before shoving a hair iron into her body. Her crime was that in the height of sexual pleasure she mistakenly called out the name of her ex-husband twice during s*x.
Police officers were called to Lopez's apartment early Sunday morning after he called 911 to say that his girlfriend was having trouble breathing and was going to die. When officers arrived, they found the naked body of Maria Nemeth on the bathroom floor next to a large amount of blood.
[Warning: This article contains graphic details that some readers may find disturbing.]
According to the police report, there were "several chunks of bloody tissue on the floor inside the closet." Police said the closet door had been ripped out and was on the hallway floor, and there were holes in the dry wall. Police said the rear sliding glass door was shattered.
During an interview with detectives, Lopez said that he and Nemeth were drinking tequila inside his apartment when they began to have "rough s*x." He said Nemeth asked him to put a beer bottle and his fist inside her vagina, saying that it was her idea and that she enjoyed it, the report said.
Lopez said Nemeth then went into the bathroom to vomit, and he later found her having trouble breathing, so he called 911, the report said.
Detectives said Lopez later admitted that Nemeth "became very intoxicated" and they ended up inside the closet, where they started to have s*x. It was during sex that Nemeth said the name of her ex-husband twice, enraging Lopez, detectives said.
Lopez began to break things throughout the apartment, shattering the sliding glass door and punching holes in the wall, detectives said. He then returned to the closet, where Nemeth was lying unconscious, and "began to insert several items into (her)," the report said. Among the items noted in the report are a beer bottle and a flat iron.
Detectives said Lopez gave them a graphic description of how he stuck his arm inside her vagina and anus "all the way up to his elbow," causing her to bleed. Lopez admitted to ripping internal tissue out of her, including intestinal matter, detectives said.
In the report, Lopez told detectives that he became a "monster."
Lopez said he carried Nemeth to the bathroom and tried to put water on her face to wake her up, but she never regained consciousness, the report said. Lopez then washed the blood off his hands in the bathroom sink, went outside to smoke a cigarette and then began to panic, taking items from the closet to cover up the bloody tissue, the report said.
When he returned to the bathroom to check on Nemeth, Lopez noticed that she wasn't breathing, so he decided to call 911, detectives said Lopez told them.
Nemeth worked in the leasing office at the Colonnade Residences, where her body was found.
"We're devastated," neighbor Dan Carter told Local 10. "There's a black cloud hanging over this apartment complex. Now the neighbors are sad. It's a horrible loss."
Lopez is being held without bond at the main Broward County jail.
Check out What UNILAG Lecturer Who Raped 18-Year Old Wants Court To Do. Lol!!!
The courtroom of a Lagos Magistrate Court sitting in Ikeja was filled to capacity on Monday as a University of Lagos lecturer, Dr. Afeez Baruwa, who is standing trial for allegedly raping an 18-year-old admission seeker, showed up in court for trial.
This was just as the counsel for the defendant, Kunle Abimbola, lamented the negative press coverage given to his client’s case, adding that such publications already presumed the defendant to be guilty.
Punch Metro had reported on September 10 that Baruwa, a lecturer from the univeristy’s Distance Learning Institute, who had been in remand at the Krikiri Prison since August 7, failed to show up in court.
The presiding magistrate, Mr. T. Elias, had adjourned the case till Monday, September 21, 2015, for the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
However, Baruwa showed up in court for the continuation of his trial on Monday.
Our correspondent also observed the victim and her parents sitting among the crowd.
The defence counsel, Abimbola, who brought an affidavit sworn to by Baruwa’s wife to show the lecturer’s failing health, sought the court’s permission to perfect the bail of Baruwa.
The counsel, who put forward several newspaper publications on Baruwa, said it was wrong that his client was being tried by the media in the eyes of the general public.
He said,
“The state of my client’s health should be considered. We also have to seek a protection of the man from the press. It is not fair that the defendant is being tried by the media.“This is contrary to Section 36 (5), of the constitution. There are several publications that attest to this, including an interview granted to the Dean of the UNILAG’s Faculty of Business Administration, where my client was called all sort of names.“I urge the court to call the newspapers to order, and we urge you to come to the aid of the defendant.”
The OPD lawyer, Ibikunle, said the publication of the matter in the newspaper was not unconstitutional as the general public had already been informed, and had the right to have information on the matter as it progressed.
She added that the affidavit brought before the court establishing Baruwa’s ill-health, did not have any medical report.
The Magistrate, Elias, who went through one of the newspapers’ publication briefly, said the case was awaiting advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions.
He thereafter adjourned the matter till November 13, 2015.

Shocking storyline :2yr old girl murdered by her mother's boyfriend because he thought she was possessed by devil
The child known as 'Baby Doe' whose remains were found on an island in Boston Harbor has been identified after a long and exhaustive search. The girl's body was found in a trash bag on June 25 by a woman who was walking her dog on Deer Island, Boston Globe reports.
Horrifying details about the girl's short life and death were revealed in court Monday morning, Sept. 21 as her mom, Rachelle Bond, and Bond's boyfriend, Michael McCarthy, were arraigned after their arrest on Friday.
Bella Bond was killed in her bedroom by her mother's boyfriend - a man who was convinced the toddler was possessed by demons, a prosecutor told a Boston courtroom on Monday.
McCarthy, 35, is being held without bond on a murder charge. Bond, 40, is being held on $1 million bail after authorities charged her as an accessory after the fact. Assistant District Attorney David Deakin told a Dorchester District Court judge on Monday that a "lifelong friend" of McCarthy's broke the case open. The friend told authorities that he had lived with Bond and McCarthy for a week or two just several months before her death, and was "appalled by their treatment" of Bella.
"What troubled him the most was that both of them, particularly Mr. McCarthy, had locked the girl in the closet for 30 minutes to an hour while she screamed to be let out," Deakin said. "Mr. McCarthy told the lifelong friend that she was possessed by demons, and that's why she deserved that treatment." The treatment escalated into deadly force sometime in late May, Deakin said, when one night, Bella refused to go to bed. "Mr. McCarthy said he was going to go to the back bedroom and calm her down," Deakin said. When Bond went to check on them, he continued, "She found Mr. McCarthy standing over Bella... with his hand near her abdomen." Bella wasn't talking.
Bond noticed her face was swollen, Deakin said. "She went to her daughter and picked her up and she told police that she knew at that moment that her daughter was dead." No manner of death has been determined by a medical examiner. Suffocation or asphyxiation, which could have resulted from blunt force to her stomach, wouldn't necessarily leave signs of physical trauma, Deakin said.
McCarthy allegedly told Bond that Bella "was a demon anyway. It was her time to die." He then allegedly threatened to kill Bond if she reported anything to police. Both Bond and McCarthy have prior criminal records and were involved in drugs, Deakin said. They will return to court on Oct. 20. The friend who tipped off authorities told them that he texted McCarthy, asking where Bella was after noticing a resemblance between the billboards put up across Boston seeking information about a "Baby Doe." The friend said McCarthy claimed Bella had been taken away by child services, who twice visited Bella over the course of her lifetime but left her in Bond's custody.
After killing Bella, according to Deakin, McCarthy stuffed her body in a trash bag and kept it in a refrigerator for days before dumping her in the Boston Harbor. When her body was found, she was dressed in white pants with black polka dots and a zebra-print blanket was left in the trash bag. The woman who discovered Bella's body noticed the bag after her dog began pawing at it.
Authorities also found books on "demons and demonology" in the apartment the couple shared, Deakin said. They were allegedly high on heroin for several days after Bella's death. Bella's father, Joseph Amoroso, told local media in Boston that Bond told him her boyfriend killed the girl. Amoroso, 32, said he had been living in Florida for the past couple of years and had never met his daughter.
He also wiped tears from his eyes as he sat and listened in court on Monday. Bella had pierced ears and appeared well-nourished at the time of her death. She would have turned 3 years old last month. Source: Boston Globe

Asari Dokubo accuses DSS of disabling his Facebook account
The spokesperson to the leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Front (NDPSF), Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari, Rex Ekiugbo Anighoro, has alleged that the Facebook account of Asari Dokubo has been disabled by the Department of State Services (DSS).
A statement released yesterday by Ekiugho titled: 'Buhari and APC: Depotism and the Confiscation of Freedom of Expression: Time Bomb Waiting to Explode', alleged that Asari's account was disabled after he began a serialised article on his Facebook page on the gaffes and hypocrisy of Pres. Buhari.

"Although we are not surprised at this junta's long awaited modus, it remains a sad commentary that we are back to stone age where press freedom is endangered"Ekiugbo said in the statement said investigations carried out by them revealed that President Buhari through his media aides had begun the systematic dismantling of accounts of all strong and key opposition voices in the social media network through frivolous petitions of 'inciting public unrest and the making of hate speeches' to management of Facebook in their desperate moves to control the network media space.
There will be consequences if Falae is not freed – Fani-Kayode tells FG
Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to the abduction of Chief Olu Falae.
The former Secretary to the Federal Government was abducted on Monday by suspected herdsmen at his farm, about 15 kilometers to his residence along Oba-Ile road, Akure, the state capital.
Fani-Kayode in a statemet said “The abduction of Chief Olu Falae is not only unacceptable but it also an exceptionally dangerous development.”
Fani-Kayode in a statemet said “The abduction of Chief Olu Falae is not only unacceptable but it also an exceptionally dangerous development.”
“I say this because he is not only an elder-statesman of our country but he is also one of the most revered leaders of Afenifere and the south-west.
“We cannot sit by idly and watch our leaders and elders being endangered, shamed and humiliated in this way. It is the governments job to keep us all safe and secure and they are failing in that duty.
“I call on the President and our security agencies to effect the expeditious and immediate release of Chief Olu Falae. They must rescue him from these vagabonds and vandals as soon as possible before things get out of hand.
“Let it be clearly understood that if anything happens to him and if he doesn’t come home hale and hearty, we will hold the Federal Government responsible and there will be consequences.
“Those that are in power would do well to take what I have said very seriously,” he added.
Meet The world's most hated man
Martin Shkreli, 32, founder and chief executive of Turing Pharmaceuticals who was a former hedge fund manager, purchased the rights to Daraprim - a drug which is used to treat life-threatening parasitic infections - in August for $55million. Shortly thereafter, the price of the drug, which costs roughly $1 to produce, was increased to $750 per tablet. The drug cost only $13.50 per tablet and you needed only 100 tablets to treat yourself and be well.
Shkreli told Bloomberg that he hiked up the price of the pill because Turing Pharmaceuticals 'needed to turn a profit on the drug', needed to upgrade , had manufacturing, distribution, FDA and had to pay its workers well to make sure that the drugs were made to specification. Which people thought was bogus because the previous company met all the requirements he mentioned and were still able to sell it for $13.50 per tablet.

'This isn't the greedy drug company trying to gouge patients, it is us trying to stay in business,' Shkreli said.
He added that many patients use the drug for less than a year and that the price is on par with drugs similar that are used to treat rare diseases.
Since the announcement, people across social media have criticized the price increase, including US Presidential aspirant, Hilary Clinton, but Shkreli has backed the decision. He had an OK Cupid account which he has since deleted. You are a noise maker, Army Chief tells B’Haram leader
Nigeria’s chief of army staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai has dismissed as mere noise making the claims in a new audio by Abubakar Shekau, the elusive Boko Haram leader.
Buratai described the audio as `another desperate move by the group to find relevance.’
He said the group no longer has the capacity to hold any ground or plan co-ordinated attack on strategic locations or key public facilities.
“I think the new Boko Haram leader, in the latest audio is just trying to sound relevant; but as far as I am concerned, he is irrelevant in the scheme of things, he is irrelevant to me.
“ Have you seen any of them coming out apart from the suicide bombings? You can see the number of terrorists that are escaping from their camps; he is just making noise to remain relevant,’’ he said.
The Army Chief who also reacted to Sunday’s bomb blast in Maiduguri, urged residents of the area to remain calm as measures were being taken to forestall re-occurrence.
He said the bomb attack had provided clues of the remaining areas the insurgents were operating from in the state.
“Sunday’s bomb blast will be among those that will be the last, you can be counting them, it has opened up another window where we can now focus where these attacks are coming from.
“It will not be possible for them to penetrate other areas; for now we have knocked them off areas along from Yobe and some parts of Borno.
“Immediately this incident happened yesterday, I gave directive and we will comb that area thoroughly to identify where they are operating from,’’ he said.

How Fulani herdsmen abducted Olu Falae
Born on September 21, 1938, the former Finance minister was kidnapped by over 20 Fulani herdsmen who invaded his farm and attacked his over 200 workers.
Many of his workers including the farm Manager identified as Bruno were matcheted while others were reportedly wounded and are on admission in different hospitals.
Reports from the family said that the fulani herdsmen have been having issues with the workers in the farm over the grazing and the destruction of the farmland by their cows.
The herdsmen reportedly came back on Monday in large number and attacked the farm before abducting the politician.
Vanguard was told that on arrival the herdsmen shot indiscriminately into the air, a situation which made the workers to flee to different directions.
They reportedly beat up the National chairman of the Social Democratic Party SDP and dragged him on the floor when he refused to go with them.
Police source however said that the Fulani herdsmen may have been used by other interested party who have requested for a ransom.
The herdsmen according to the police source may have been paid off and the victim handed over to those who have made contact with the family after carrying out the hatchet job.
Speaking with newsmen, the spokesman of the SDP in the state, Remi Olayiwola said that the abductors have contacted the wife of the victim Mrs Rachel Falae and requested for N100m ransom expected to be paid before the end of work on Tuesday.
Olayiwola said that the accent of those who contacted the wife of their National chairman was that of the fulani.
Newsmen were barred from entry into his residence located along Oba-ile in Akure metropolis while other sympathizers and party members gained free access into the compound.
The state police authorities confirmed that the Funali herdmen invaded the farm, attacked, wounded and beat up the former Minister before whisking him away to an unknown destination.
Spokesman for the state command, Wole Ogodo said that Chief Falae was taken away while some of his staff were seriously wounded.
Ogodo pointed out that in a swift response no fewer than 50 policemen had been deployed to the area to search for him.
He added that until the search party led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, operation Ishola Abdulahi, the command would not be able to ascertain the whereabouts of the septuagenarian politician
The police spokesman said it was too hasty to conclude that the politician was kidnapped.
