19-Year-Old Was Fatally Shot In The Head Over A Dispute About Her Boyfriend.
The shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of South 11th Street in Newark, police said.
According to family members, a group of them were sitting outside on the steps when a man wearing a hoodie walked up waving a gun. The gunman suddenly opened fired as the group fled inside the house, they said.
In the chaos, Henderson was shot in the head. She died at the scene. Her friends dragged her inside to try to save her but it was too late, they said.
While the prosecutor’s office has not revealed a possible motive for the slaying, the victim’s sister told PIX11 News the shooting may have stemmed .
The victim has been identified as Tammy Henderson, 19, of Newark, according to family members at the scene and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Henderson’s slaying marks the 37th homicide in the New Jersey city so far this year, according to an official with the prosecutor’s office.
