Rukayat Adesina, a 27-year-old hairdresser residing at 7, Almaroof Street, Ijaiye-Ojokoro, Lagos State, is in the dock in an Ikeja Magistrates' Court for allegedly pouring hot water mixed with pepper on her neighbour, Taiwo Olajide, during a disagreement.
According to the prosecutor in the case, Corporal Kehinde Olatunde, the incident happened at the compound both ladies stay, on July 12, 2015.
Olatunde told the court that the complainant was coming from the bathroom with only her towel tied around her body when Adesina accosted her andemptied the substance on her, causing her skin to peel off.
"The complainant was coming from the bathroom when the accused poured the substance on her, which peeled her skin from head to toe."
Corporal Olatunde said that the hairdresser had suspected the victim of dating her husband and had earlier confronted her and the quarrel had been settled by fellow tenants.
"She had vowed to disfigure the complainant so that her face and body will no longer be attractive to her husband and she carried out her threat.
On that fateful day, after giving her a severe beating that morning, she was not satisfied. She went further by boiling water, mixed it with ground pepper and attacked her with it.
The complainant is still lying critically ill at the General Hospital, Gbagada, Lagos, where she is receiving treatment."
The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 by the Magistrate, O.K. Komolafe, who also adjourned the case till August 3 for mention.
