Lina Medina from Ticrapo, Peru, is considered the youngest mother ever. She was born on September 27, 1933 and was considered a normal healthy girl. But one day, her parents noticed that her belly kept growing and decided to take her to the hospital.
The doctors thought Lina had a tumor and took x-rays of her uterus. But they were shocked when they realized that it wasn’t a tumor that was growing inside of her but a baby! Lina was approximately 7 months pregnant.
Her parents confirmed that the 5-year-old had already started menstruating and that she hadn’t had her period for a while
Since her body was so small, her doctors had to perform a cesarean section to deliver the baby. Lina gave birth to a baby boy on May 14, 1939. She named her baby “Gerardo” after her doctor’s name.
The doctors also noticed that she had fully developed mammary glands and sexual organs, which led to the conclusion that she suffered from precocious puberty.
Lina’s father was arrested in suspicion of rape and abuse towards her daughter. But he was soon released since there was no evidence of those crimes. Nonetheless, the identity of the father was never known!
Lina’s case was documented on the French medical journal “La Presse Médicale” and obviously got a lot of attention within the medical community.
