Hello guys,

Fuel Scarcity May Persist Beyond May 29 –

Major oil marketers and depot petroleum products marketers on Thursday said that the current fuel scarcity in the country might persist beyond May 29, if the Federal Government failed to pay their outstanding claims on subsidy.

The Executive Secretary of Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, Obafemi Olawore, disclosed this at a media briefing with the newsmen in Lagos.

Mr. Olawore said the outstanding payment on subsidy and interest remained unpaid by government and this had led to its members’ inability to import petroleum products in the last few days.

According to him, the scarcity may also persist beyond the hand over date that will usher in a new political administration of Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).“

Because of the huge outstanding that we have; because we have not been able to pay back the loan we have taken, because our suppliers are not too confident, we are unable to bring fresh import..

“Whatever we have now is what we have received from NNPC and it is the small quantity that we have from NNPC, that is why you see all the trucks in Lagos scrambling for them.

Mr. Olawore said unless the over N200 billion that the government owed both MOMAN and DAPPMA was paid, scarcity might persist beyond May 29.

The Executive Secretary of Depot and Petroleum Products Marketing Association (DAPPMA), Olufemi Adewole, also said the Federal Government owed its members more than N200 billion.

He said that out of its 40 members, only 24 participate in the subsidy programme, adding that all its members had been paid subsidy while only six out of 24 had been paid their interest.

The Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had on May 3, said the Federal Government was not owing the marketers up to N200 billion.

She said that after paying the marketers N154 billion a week earlier, the government was only aware of N131 billion outstanding payment.(NAN)

Hello guys,

Traffic jam in Lagos won’t end anytime soon - NUPENG

Tokunbo Korodo, south-west chairman of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), says the harrowing experience of Lagos motorists and commuters arising from the fuel scarcity and gridlock on roads may not end anytime soon.

According to Korodo, the trucks causing the gridlock on Eko, Liverpool and Coconut bridges, which has affected other major roads, such as Ikorodu road, may not leave the roads anytime soon despite the directive of the Lagos state govt.

Speaking with NAN in Lagos on Thursday, he said that only three depots out of over 50 in the state had petroleum products to dispense.

“The development has compelled hundreds of trucks to head for the three depots to lift oil. This is the key reason for the unprecedented traffic jam that has locked down Lagos in recent days.”

Stakeholders at the meeting were NUPENG, petroleum tankers drivers (PID), national association of road transport owners (NARTO), association of maritime truck owners (AMATO) and independent petroleum markers association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Residents in Nigeria’s economic capital have faced tough times trying to buy premium motor spirit, and their woes have been compounded by traffic jams on most roads in the city.

Korodo named the three depots currently having oil as capital oil and gas tank farm, ibeto oil and gas tank farm, and integrated oil and gas tank farm, all in the Apapa.

He said the gridlock would ease if trucks queuing for oil would load and leave Lagos by weekend. But observers say such scenario is unlikely.

Korodo suggested that the nigerian national petroleum corporation should decentralise loading of petroleum products to ease the pressure on Lagos. “

This is the only way Lagos residents can get reprieve from the gridlock, which has forced up transport fares and cost of foodstuff,” he said.

FROM PAUL ORUDE, BAUCHIA policeman has shot dead a woman in Tura, a suburb of Bauchi State, throwing residents into deep mourning.

The tragedy occurred at the weekend at about 1pm.The deceased who is said to be in her mid-30s, was reported to be the girlfriend of the trigger happy policeman.

Trouble started for the deceased, Jamila Rahama, when the policeman, simply called Abdul (aka Barrister) stormed a house in Tura after he received a report that his best friend was sleeping with her there.

He was said to be infuriated following rumours that his lover usually had a rendezvous with his friend.

An eyewitness who does not want his name in print, said the policeman was bitter with the development, he stormed the house. He reportedly shot and killed her instantly.“After killing her, he left the house. He was later arrested by the police,” he said.

The landlord of the house was initially arrested, but released on bail after nothing incriminating was found on him in connection with Rahama’s death.“He heard news that she was sleeping with his friend.

Hello guys ,

3 Men Died After Consuming 'OGOGORO' In Ondo; Seller Flees!!!!!!

Akure—DETECTIVES from Ondo State Police Command are working round the clock to unravel the mysterious death of three persons after consuming a local gin, popularly known as ogogoro at Oka Motor Park in Ondo town, Ondo State.

This is coming as the state government said last week that it had curtailed the outbreak of a strange disease which caused the death of 23 persons at Irele area of the state.

The government said the 23 who died at Irele consumed poisonous ethanol and banned the consumption of ogogoro across the state.

Vanguard gathered that the deceased persons in this latest incident included a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in the park, an electrician and another person working in the motor park.

It was learned that the three persons consumed the local gin at the park and immediately complained of stomach upset.

Other members of the union reportedly applied local herbs to calm them down, but they soon became unconscious.

An eyewitness said they died before they could be rushed to a nearby hospital in the town, adding that the deaths were mysterious as other members of the union usually drank the same ogogoro.

Seller fleesVanguard gathered that the seller of the ogogoro had fled the park for fear of arrest by policemen, who reportedly stormed the motor park to investigate the incident.

The eyewitness said consum-ption of ogogoro at motor parks by members of NURTW was a daily occurrence.

It was also gathered that the deceased had been buried according to Muslim rites without undergoing any autopsy to confirm the real cause of their death.

Contacted, the police image maker, Wole Ogodo, said: “When I called the DPO of the Enuowa Police Division in Ondo, he said nobody had reported the case at the police station, that they too heard it as rumour in the town.“

We have commenced investigation and after the investigation we shall let the whole world know what actually happened to the said three persons.”

We ‘re in control— Health CommissionerIt would be recalled that the Health Commissioner, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, last weekend said the state government has successfully curtailed the ethanol poison at Irele area of the state.

He said the sensitization efforts of government had yielded results on the consumption of the local gin.

The commissioner added that both National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, and SON had intervened to standardize the brewing of the local gin and regulate it’s production.

Adeyanju said: “Those that died as a result of the consumption of the local gin are the chronic drinkers, while those that just tasted it have since regained their sights.

”According to him, a high concentration of the ethanol poison was discovered in the system of those that died as a result of its consumption.

Adeyanju pointed out that the ban on the consumption of ogogoro in the state still subsists, while government would deal decisively with those who flouted the directive.

The Lagos state police command has arrested 19 year old Enugu state indigene, Tochukwu Anosike pictured above for killing his friend, 15 year old Imo state indigene, Nonso Monyasa, during an argument over who would occupy a seat at their shop where they are both learning a trade in Lagos.

Punch reports that the young men had been friends in the last two years after the suspect moved to Lagos to learn a trade in the same shopping complex where the deceased was also an apprentice.

On the day of the incident, the deceased had gone to meet Tochukwu to take his seat which they jokingly dragged. Suddenly Tochukwu became angry over the argument and punched his friend in the stomach. The deceased died less than an hour later.

Tochukwu was arrested and taken to the police station where he said he never punched his friend with the intention of killing him. He said they had always engaged in such friendly physical combat before. He pleaded for forgiveness"I have always lived in the village.

My father died when I was in primary five. When I finished my secondary school in the village in 2013, my brother, Anayo, brought me to Lagos so I could learn a trade.

he saidThe suspect said when the deceased picked his seat from his shop, he (Nonso) punched his lap which resulted in his phone getting damaged"I told him my phone had developed a fault because of the punch he gave me, but he walked away.

I went back to my seat and told him the next time he did that, I would beat him up. He said I could not beat him. He came and hit me with blows, and I gave him a punch in the stomach.

He held his belly and went inside their shop,” he added. Nonso died afterwardsA family member of the deceased said medical examinations showed he died of internal bleeding.

The boy’s family have been informed in the village and they told me to withdraw the case because they are not interested in pursuing court matters.

Hello guys ,

Once upon a time, Nicole Murphy was the wife of Eddie Murphy and then the fiancée of Michael Strahan.

The 47-year-old model-actress - who is now very single - was relishing the cabana life as she lounged in the sun and partial shade by the pool with friends in Miami, Florida on Wednesday.

Nicole wasn't shy about showing off her hourglass figure that was clad in a white string bikini, and did so often as she hovered between the refrigerator and her towel-covered chaise lounge.

As temperatures peaked around the 90-degree Fahrenheit mark, Nicole was wise to keep hydrated with an icy beverage and at one point was seen spooning some of it into her mouth.

A perky black cap kept the glare out of her eyes, and dangling earrings fell from her lobes. When she'd had enough fun in the sun, Nicole slipped on a pair of white, wide-legged trousers.

Nicole - who shares five children with her ex Eddie - has been seen enjoying the pristine beaches of Miami on other occasions.

Back in March, bikini-clad Nicole was in the company of a muscly shirtless man but alas it was only for a photoshoot.Nicole was famously wed to the Beverly Hills Cop actor from 1993 to 2006 when their divorce was finalised.

She then dated and became engaged to former NFL football player-turned-morning show host Michael Strahan.

But last summer, Nicole abruptly ended their five-year engagement on the eve of Strahan's Hall Of Fame induction.

Since then, she's been seen in the company of Mariah Carey's ex, Nick Cannon.

The twosome were spotted enjoying a Valentine's Day dinner at Tavern On The Green in February.
