Anambra demolishes over 50 brothels, prostitutes revolt

Over 2000 commercial sex workers in Anambra state were last weekend rendered homeless and flushed out of business by the Anambra State Urban Development Board (ASUDEB) at the cattle market, Amansea, in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The State Urban Development Board rounded up the place at 3:12 pm with over 50 armed police personnel, saying that the brothels were being used by kidnappers.

The visibly angry prostitutes quickly mobilised and set the remaining structures in the cattle market ablaze shortly after the demolition, accusing the ASUDEP officials of ‘bias’.

One of the prostitutes, Rachael (not her real name) said the government officials were wicked and inhuman as they destroyed their brothel without notice, leaving behind some huts, kiosks and canteens that belong to the Hausa cattle traders.

Addressing newsmen, the General Manager, Anambra State Urban Development Board, Mr. Enemmuo Nathan Chinedu, who led the operation, said the exercise is part of Governor Willie Obiano’s resolve to rid the state all of crime and criminality, adding that the structures demolished were illegal buildings in Amansea Garriki where prostitutes, kidnappers and armed robbers reside.

He noted that similar demolitions will be extended to Nnewi, Onitsha, and other cities where brothels and illegal structures are situated until all prostitutes in the state relocate, even as he debunked the allegation of not giving them prior notice, saying that three weeks notice was given to them to vacate the vicinity before the operation.

According to Chinedu: “a lot of prostitutes live around Amansea cattle market, spoiling our children and constituting a nuisance in the area; and you know that anywhere there is brothel, criminals and kidnappers hover around there.

“In my capacity as the ASUDEB GM, I will ensure that this doesn’t exist anymore in the state; and our activities are in line with our amiable governor’s policy on zero-tolerance to criminals and kidnappers in the State,” he said.

On the allegation of bias in the demolition exercise, the Secretary of the cattle market, Alhaji Bello Maigari, stressed that all illegal structures in the market were earmarked by ASUDEB 21 days ago, saying that their wives’ canteen were not part of the ones marked for demolition.

“Ashawo (prostitution) is not part of our business here. Our main business is selling and buying of cows, and the idea of the demolition is to remove all illegal structures used for prostitution.

“The ones they did not demolish are the places where our cattle dealers that come from the North stay and canteens where our wives cook for our customers, but those ones have been razed by the inferno,” he regretted.

Men of the Anambra State Fire Service later came to the place around 5:11 pm to extinguish the fire, but by then most of the buildings had been razed.

The prostitutes were sighted boarding taxis to Ugwuoba in Oji River council area of Enugu State, where they reportedly operate in another brothel.

A 90-year-old dead woman, Gogo Tshuma, who resurrected during her funeral procession in a Village of Chikamba in Jambezi, Zimbabwe, have thrown mourners into a state of celebration.
It was learnt that the resurrected woman however later gave up the ghost.

Reports has it that a source from the village said the incident has got people talking with different versions been heard.

The report quoted the source as saying, “Gogo Tshuma was over 90. When she died, people gathered waiting for her children to come for the funeral.

“They arrived at home a day after her death and brought a coffin. On the second day, which was supposed to be the burial day, Gogo MaTshuma came back to life.

FESTAC sewage systems gush out dangerous wastes’

A resident of FESTAC Town, Mr. Oghene Emma-Egoh, has lamented the poor state of the area, calling it “a disaster waiting to happen.”

Emma-Egoh, a member of the House of Representatives, on Sunday urged the Federal Government to move in and save “FESTAC and its satellite towns” in Lagos State.

The lawmaker warned of possible epidemics in FESTAC owing to the near total collapse of infrastructure, particularly the sewage system.

FESTAC Town is a federal housing estate on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Lagos,

FESTAC means Festival of Arts and Culture, and the estate was constructed to house the participants of the festival in 1977. It was subsequently allocated and sold to Nigerians after the festival.

But Emma-Egoh, who represents Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency, complained that in spite of collecting all manner of rates and levies from residents in the area, both the federal and the Lagos governments cared less about the decay in the town and its surroundings.

He recalled that he had earlier moved a motion on the problem on the floor of the House on Wednesday, as part of the efforts to get the Federal Government to rescue FESTAC Town.

The House, in a resolution, had called on the Federal Government and its agency, the Federal Housing Authority of Nigeria, to begin the “immediate rehabilitation of FESTAC Town.”

Emma-Egoh said, “This estate has been built for over 40 years and as we speak, there are no functional infrastructure. Today, the Federal Government collects tenement rates from residents in FESTAC, while the Lagos State Government also collects land charges.

“There is no single firefighting vehicle in the place. If there is any fire incident in FESTAC, it will be a total disaster.

“So, given its importance as one of the oldest housing estates and satellite towns in Lagos, it is important to rehabilitate the area.”

He noted that the condition of roads in the estate had become deplorable, while residents no longer had access to potable water.

The lawmaker said, “The central sewage systems in the estate are no longer functional. They now gush out dangerous wastes into the open at uncontrollable rate and the drainages are no longer flowing and have become the habitat for giant mosquitoes.

“This situation can lead to the outbreak of an epidemic.”

"I write this with a heavy heart the demise of my immediate younger sister Kemi Arobieke who was murdered. On Thursday 6th of August, my sister left for Osogbo to see Bode Olugbore, the State Special Adviser to Governor Aregbesola without telling anyone only for us to get a call on the 8th, Saturday, that she had died in an accident in Osogbo. The police asked us to come immediately that it was tragic. We got to osogbo in the night but was told to wait for the DPO the next morning. We got the shocker on Sunday that my beloved sister was electrocuted. We went to the mortuary where we discovered that she was not electrocuted but murdered"

Anita Oyakhilome Opens Up On Alleged Divorce "I Was Abused"

If you recall in 2014, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and his wife Anita, who now goes by her maiden name Ebhodaghe caused quite a stare when news of divorce between the two hit the net.

The divorce was filed in April 9, 2014 at Divorce Section A, Central Family Court, First Avenue House, High Holborn, London, United Kingdom on the grounds of "unreasonable behaviour" and for the first time since that divorce, Anita is now speaking.

Anita took to her blog to discuss how her life has been changing as of late making some serious references to her marriage as she wrote. She wrote:

It is my desire to reach out and inspire you especially if you feel vulnerable and in need of a change. I hope to inspire you to believe in yourself no matter the circumstances. I want to help you recreate your life going forward, so you can live beautifully.

 I have been through this journey of rediscovery and nothing is as beautiful as realising one’s uniqueness as I have done. Life is a precious however, your life can go through different seasons: winter, spring, summer or autumn.

 Life can hit you with financial loss, disappointments, death of a loved one, a broken relationship, loss of a job, a divorce, being falsely accused or being a victim of crime. These can shatter you to pieces but you can do something about it.

Life is a gift from God and you deserve to be happy irrespective of your age, race, gender, background or financial situation. I urge you to appreciate the gift you are, you are precious and valuable. Never lose sight of who you are; begin to create new visions and dreams for your life. Let nothing stop you from growing every day. 

My story is not one of a bed of roses, far from it but I had a choice to either beat myself over the regret of tolerating abuse for so long or put a stop to the abuse and recreate my life for the best. My journey was not in vain. I can now help others realise that their situation does not define them.

In order to move on with life, I have come to realise that nothing is permanent. Your problem is not permanent; you can do something to change it by ensuring you do not allow the situation or the person make your life miserable. 

Pain is a fact of life, it is inevitable but suffering is optional. You can do something to change the pain by over looking every obstacle, take control as a force of nature to grow and expand. Do what is necessary now to use the gift God has given you to unleash your purpose.

My message to all is simple: you have value therefore discover your potential. Do not allow anybody destroy you or rob you of living a joyful life. Your life is not wasted; you have just started a different phase of life. God will show you how to use your testimony to help others and restore their lives to exuberance.

Igbo leaders tell Buhari "Prove you are not being influenced"

IGBO Leaders on the banner of the Igbo Leaders of Thought (ILT), yesterday, insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari is being influenced by some former leaders in his anti-graft crusade and challenged him to prove otherwise by waging a holistic war against graft.

Professor Ben Nwabueze (SAN) that instead of limiting his searchlight to Dr Goodluck Jonathan administration, Buhari should also probe the General Ibrahim Babangida, Sani Abacha, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua regimes and that he was being influenced by some of these leaders, the President said he could not be tele-guided by anybody.

Speaking through Mallam Shehu Garba, his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, President Buhari said he is not being tele-guided by anybody and that he would not a deaf ear to the looting of public treasury and crude oil theft. He also said he would not stop the anti-corruption agencies from doing their work.

However, the ILT in a statement by its Deputy Secretary, Evangelist Elliot Uko, yesterday, said that Mallam Shehu avoided the real points in his response.

His words: ”The anti corruption war and probe in order to recover our stolen common wealth is not only needful, but commendable. 

Nigerians know that the only pathway to restoring sanity, probity and accountability to governance in our much battered and so much abused nation is to carry out the exercise in a holistic manner without granting a clean bill of health on the 1999-2007 regime or any other regime since returning to civil rule in 1999.

” The insinuation that Mr. President is scared of probing the 1999-2007 is a by-product of the statement from the presidency that only the Jonathan regime is targeted for probe.

 Had the presidency announced that sordid affairs located within the 1999-2007 regime will also be looked into, Nigerians will not have formed the opinion that ex president Obasanjo is not only above the law, but that his larger than life image hovering over the Buhari presidency will obviously make it extremely difficult if not out-rightly impossible for president Buhari to be objective, unbiased and upright especially in the probe of corruption in our polity.

”Nigerians are wondering why the monumental fraud and sleaze that occurred between 1999-2007 is about to be swept under the carpet while our government’s only area of interest begins some where after 2009. 

Truth is bitter, and this truth is also obvious to all Nigerians over 20 years of age; that the 1999-2007 PDP led government laid the foundation for all the other regimes after it. Nigerians know that the sleaze under that regime stink to high heavens.

 Any fight against corruption and probe and recovery of stolen funds that exempts the 1999-2007 regime is tainted, selective, and a confirmation of the large influence of the “invisible government” in our polity.

”The Igbo Leaders of Thought did not say that president Buhari is teleguided. 

The Igbo Leaders of Thought identified the over-bearing influence, powers and connections of past heads of state who played very key roles in the emergence of President Buhari in March this year and wondered how he expects Nigerians to believe him when his aides point at “distraction” as the only reason he is avoiding probing the 1999-2007 POP government.

”Nobody believes that. Everybody knows that the rat cannot probe the cat. Some past Leaders’ shadows are hovering over president Buhari. He is clearly constrained by certain factors.

”This factors will certainly affect the credibility of the probe and recovery exercise if it is only targeted at the last regime. 

The issues raised by the Igbo Leaders of Thought represents the thought and views of millions of Nigerians who share the opinion that the only way sanity would be restored in our country is to make the exercise a holistic, unbiased and all-inclusive one. 

The very point Alhaji Garba Shehu cleverly avoided in his response. Nobody said Buhari is teleguided. 

Nigerians merely want the probe and recovery of stolen funds to date back to 1999. That is the only way Nigerians, the international community and indeed future generations will agree the exercise is not a witch -hunt.”

Extremely talented and hard-working actress, Mercy Johnson welcomed her second child Henry in October 2014, but she is already expecting another baby with her husband Prince Odianosen barely 10 months after.

A Pastor want to dissolve his marriage of 15-years over nagging.

A pastor, Tunde Adekunle, on Monday urged an Akure Customary Court to dissolve his 15 year-old marriage to his wife, Agbeke for alleged frequent nagging.

Adekunle, founder of Christ Living Church, Owo, Ondo State, said that his wife was hell-bent in making life unbearable for him.

The cleric also told the court that some of the scars on his body were caused by the constant fisticuffs between them, adding that there was no more affection existing in the marriage.

He said that the respondent was a “disgrace to his pastoral calling”, noting that she had once torn his cloth in front of his congregation when he was preaching.

Agbeke, in her response, denied the allegations, but said that she was ready to part with the petitioner.

He said that the union had produced four children.

She accused her husband of being promiscuous, night crawling, failure to carrying out marital responsibilities of providing for the house and the upkeep and education of the children.

The President of the court, Mrs Olayinka Falodun, in her ruling urged the petitioner to take care of the welfare of the children.

Falodun also advised the respondent to intensify efforts in ensuring the bright future of her children.

He, therefore, ordered the parties to come to court with two witnesses each ate the next adjourned date.

The president adjourned the case till August 31, for continuation.

Shocking storyline :My NIECE Was Burnt Alive By Her Boyfriend .

RESIDENTS said seeing the burning woman running in the street was like watching a horror movie.

“Nobody should see that in real life,” said Tshegofatso Motha (34) from Orange Farm, south of Joburg.

“I cannot sleep at night because what I saw keeps playing in my mind. Kudzai Siwela suffered terribly,” she said.

Tshegofatso said she saw her neighbour Kudzai falling and neighbours throwing blankets over her and splashing her with water.

Kudzai’s boyfriend allegedly poured petrol over her and set her on fire. The 23-year-old woman could not be saved.

She died before she got to hospital last Monday.

Kudzai’s uncle, Munyarazi Machedze (49) said his niece died a very painful death.

“I was at Ivory Park and when I came home, the neighbours told me a horror story.

“My niece died naked after the fire ate her clothes.

“She ran around the streets looking for help,” Munyarazi said.

“Neighbours took her to hospital but she was dead when she got there.”

Munyarazi said his niece had been complaining about her abusive boyfriend.

He said that he opened a case of murder at the Orange Farm cop shop, but the boyfriend is still walking free.

“I want him to rot in jail.

“He doesn’t deserve to be in the community,” he said.

Kudzai’s 33-year-old boyfriend told Daily Sun he never burnt her.

“She was cleaning the house when a flammable fluid accidentally fell on her and caught fire from the stove because she was cooking.

“I was one of the people who helped to stop the fire,” he said.

Cops said they were investigating the matter.

NEWS NEWS :MANDELA GRANDKID ARRESTED FOR RAPE!

THE grandson of Nelson Mandela was arrested at the weekend for rape.

This comes after he was accused of raping a 15-year-old girl at a popular restaurant in Greenside, Joburg last Friday.

According to the girl’s family spokesman, the girl went to the restaurant with friends.

“Apparently she went to the toilet and he grabbed her and raped her inside one of the toilets,” he said.

He said the girl lives with her mum but after the news reached the family, the father tried to open a case with no success.

He said Winnie Madikizela-Mandela asked the girl’s family to give her family time to deal with the issue.

“Instead, Winnie’s bodyguard went to the family pretending to be a cop. The father was told there was no need to arrest the suspect but when the father asked to see his badge, he didn’t have one. It turned out he had been sent by Winnie,” he said.

Sunday Sun reported yesterday that after a meeting at her home in Soweto, Madikizela-Mandela promised to hand her grandson to the police.

She also said she would call a press briefing. However, none of that happened.

The family spokesman said the girl’s family was angered by the way they were treated by the police and the Mandelas.

“Just because they have a famous surname, they think they can get away with crime,” he said.

“Children can’t just be raped and then everything is alright. The girl is young and doesn’t even drink,” he said.

Gauteng police spokesman Brigadier Mashadi Selepe said a case of rape was opened on 14 August.

“A suspect, who can’t be named before he appears in court, will be in the Joburg Regional Court today. The police are investigating,” he said.

Two die as 17 are seriously injured in an accident this morning …

 

Two people died today morning while 17 others are seriously injured after a Matatu headed to Nairobi from Nunguni rolled severally.

It is not clear what caused it to roll but some witnesses claim that the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a corner.
