Three Million Nigerians Are Living Illegally In UK, says Senate

No fewer than three million Nigerians are living illegally in the United Kingdom (UK), the Senate said yesterday through its Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Committee Chairman Alhaja Monsurat Sunmonu made the statement after a meeting with officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service at the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
She said an Assistant Deputy Comptroller–General, Investigations, Intelligence and Enforcement of the NIS, Mr. T. A Hundeyin, also confirmed that the 48 Nigerians recently deported from the UK committed various types of crimes and had served prison terms.

Her words: “The deputy comptroller just confirmed to us that it is not true that 29, 000 Nigerians are being deported from the United Kingdom or that the UK government intends to deport 29, 000 Nigerians.
“He (however) said that only 48 Nigerians were deported and he had shown us their names and records that actually confirmed that they had all served their prison sentences so that is why they are being deported.”
She said further: ”About three million Nigerians are illegally living in the United Kingdom and that if three million Nigerians are living there illegally and they are only removing just 48 people confirmed to have committed crime and jailed, then the situation is not too bad.”
“We will not relent in our efforts on checking and doing our oversight functions. If it requires for us to go there and visit them, and to ask questions, we won’t mind to go there and to give Nigerians and to give them the history and the records of what we find out.”

Shocking :Man kills his two young kids, stabs his wife, then commits suicide

On Wednesday night, Dec 16, Tsepo Majola, 22, killed 2 two children, Boitumelo, 2, and her brother, Tebogo Khumbuleni,5, by cutting their throats at his home in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, South Africa.

His body was found at the back of a house in Tembisa on Johannesburg’s East Rand, on Thursday, police said. Police spokesman Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said a relative found the man’s body lying at the back of a house in Phomolong in Tembisa. He had apparently committed suicide.
Earlier, police said the man arrived at his house in Phomolong on Wednesday evening and took his two children inside where he allegedly slit their throats with a knife. The five-year-old boy and the two year-old girl died instantly. He then left the kids and went to a nearby shebeen where he found their mother and allegedly stabbed her on the upper body. The mother is in hospital.

"A case of double murder, attempted murder and suspected suicide is being investigated," said Mofokeng.

"We can’t understand why he did such a thing," said Tsepo’s brother, Lucas.
"Boitumelo was sleeping on my chest when Tsepo came and took the children. We thought he wanted to put them to bed," said Lucas.
"About 30 minutes later Tsepo left. We didn’t follow him because we didn’t suspect anything was wrong."
But two hours later Lucas received a phone call.

"Tsepo told me he was sorry for what he had done. I went to the room and found Boitumelo and Tebogo. Their throats had been cut. There was blood everywhere."

For the rest of the night Tsepo was nowhere to be found and didn’t answer his phone.
"In the morning we got a call to say he had been found hanging in his room," said Lucas.
Tsepo’s mum was in the backyard room where Tsepo had hanged himself, but could not speak.

A man identified as Femi Aluko has died after he reportedly drank four cartons of beer in Shasha, a suburb of Lagos, western Nigeria.

A resident, Mrs Nike Salawu who spoke to our reporter said the late Aluko had financial and family challenges for several years, which led him into heavy drinking of alcohol.
She said some of the residents had tried in the past to persuade him from drinking but he refused.

She said it was due to his drinking habit that he fell into a gutter, and nobody was willing to assist him till Friday morning when he was found dead there.

On how he got money to buy the drinks, she said it was the residents that usually bought the drinks for him.
The matter was reported to the police at Shasha division who went to the scene of the incident to see the corpse.

However, before the police could take the corpse to the General Hospital for autopsy, members of his family went to the station and asked for the remains for burial.

Robbery :Two killed as armed robbers attack bank in Osun

Two people lost their lives after a gang of armed robbers attacked a new generation bank at Ibokun in the Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State on Tuesday December 15th. Residents of the area say the robbers attacked the bank at about 6pm when the bank had closed.

They went straight to the ATM, carted away money in it and afterwards blew the entrance of the bank open with dynamite where they also stole some money in the banking hall. The bank security guard and a resident of the area were killed during the robbery attack.

Bad News :Naira Falls To 280 To A Dollar

The Naira weakened on Thursday to 280 to a dollar following a directive by the central bank that commercial banks should limit how much customers can spend abroad using their debits cards.

The CBN has for months defended the naira employing varying measures to stabilize the falling currency, including shoring it up with forex reserves. But with reserves dwindling, the bank is not left with a better choice than curbing dollar demand. This, in turn, is hurting the naira.

“The central bank is not providing us with dollars to settle those trades and local banks are limited in their ability to source dollars, so we don’t want to end up with a settlement risk,” Reuters quoted a senior banker to have said.

In adherence to the central bank’s directive, commercial banks in Nigeria announced new limits. Individuals can now spend $100 to $150 abroad daily or $12,000 annually, down from the $50,000 set by the central bank in April. Before the April move, the limit was $150,000.

Analysts expect the naira’s struggle to continue as U.S. Federal Reserves interest rates increase is expected to exert more pressure as the economy witnesses capital flight and dollar cost of borrowing increases for emerging markets. From all indications, oil prices may not happen soon; this is also not good for the naira.

The commodity accounts for more than 80 percent of government revenue and over 90 percent of foreign exchange earnings.

Rape crime :24 Year Old Graduate Allegedly Rapes 19 Year Old Girl In Lagos, Posts Nu’de Pictures Online (See Photo)

Gbemisola, 19, claimed to have been raped by kunle a university graduate. According to her, after the rape, Kunle, 24, began to blackmail her, threatening to release her n’ude photos if she refused to send him some money.
After the victim reportedly yielded to the threat two times, he allegedly demanded another payment of N10, 000.
When Gbemisola refused, the suspect was said to have posted the n’ude photos on the Internet, including her phone number.
The victim was said to have been called by some of her friends and family members who saw the pictures.
The incident happened in Agiliti Estate, Ketu area of Lagos State.
Afolabi, a caterer, told Punch Metro that she met the suspect about three weeks ago.
She said,

“I was going home that Friday when he stopped me on the road and said he wanted to be my boyfriend. I told him I was already in a relationship with someone else, and that I was not interested.“He said he would not mind being a mere friend. We exchanged contacts and I left for my house.
“I always post pictures of my new cakes on Whatsapp and he saw one of them and said he liked it. He said he wanted me to make a cake for him. I agreed.“He asked where I was and I said I was at my sister’s shop. He said we should meet at the junction because the cake he wanted was on his phone and he would want to show me what he wanted.”
She explained that when they met, the suspect claimed to have forgotten the phone at his parent’s home in Agiliti Estate, and asked her to follow him home.
She alleged that no sooner had they got to the house than Kunle locked the door and raped her.
“I blamed myself for my predicament and I decided to bear the shame in silence.“However, on Monday, which was three days after the rape, he called me, saying if I refused to meet him, I would regret it because he had my n’ude photos and he would post them on the Internet.
“I begged him and he said I should send him a N1,500 recharge card, which I did. Two days later, he demanded another N2, 000 recharge card, and I sent it.“Later, he said I should send him N10,000. I was angry and dared him to do whatever he wanted to do.”
Gbemisola, who finished secondary school last year, said she was surprised when she saw her n’ude photos, with her phone number, on the Internet.
She said the incident had affected her psychologically.
The victim’s sister, Ramota, said she got to know about the incident from a family friend who saw the n’ude pictures.
She said,
“My younger sister said she saw Gbemisola’s n’ude photos on someone’s phone. I was told she wanted to hurt herself due to the shame and disgrace it had brought on her.“I followed some other family members to Kunle’s parents’ house and they promised to make him delete the photos. But we never knew the photos had gone viral.”
It was learnt that the case was first reported at the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender, before a community leader, Yomi Odegbami, took the matter to the Ketu Police Station.
Odegbami asked the government to bring the culprit to justice to serve as a deterrent to others.
“The police and the government should urgently wade into this case before other young girls fall victim of this wicked man,” he said.
Kunle, when contacted denied the allegation, saying he was in a relationship with Gbemisola.
He said the n’ude photos were not circulated by him, adding that the 19-year-old originally sent the photos to him during their conversation on Whatsapp.
He said,
“I am a graduate of a private university in Osun State and I know what I am doing. We met a few weeks ago and we started chatting on Whatsapp. I asked her to send me some of her pictures when she travelled to Ondo, and she said, ‘Is it my b’reasts?’, and I said yes.
“After that, I asked for the pictures of her private parts, and she sent them to me. I did a picsmix of the photos and jokingly sent it to her. I have since deleted the photos from my phone. The only regret I have was that I showed them to my friends.

“The first time she visited me, we didn’t do anything. It was the second time she came that we made love. I have all our chats as evidence that she sent those pictures to me.
“She came with her relatives to my house and damaged my laptop which I bought for over N90,000 and now, they are going to the press. I know my rights and if this is the way they want it, no problem.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Joe Offor, said he would call back, but he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

Research discovery : More than 2400 of domestic violence victims are male, report reveals

At least 2 414 men this year swallowed their pride and approached the magistrates’ courts countrywide suing for domestic violence, an indication that tables are now turning in the history of family disputes in the country.

In the past years, domestic violence was believed to be a crime against women but statistics from the courts show that men are also being battered in the home and are now gathering the courage to approach the courts for recourse.

Although women are still dominating as victims of domestic violence, men are also exercising their right to protection of the law by reporting their wives at court.

Between January and November 2015, at least 2414 men approached the family court complaining of domestic violence.

During the same period, some 6 510 women sued men for domestic violence, leaving the total number of domestic violence cases handled by the courts countrywide at 8 924.

Statistics for 2015 show that although people with disabilities were the least affected, more men in that category were suffering compared to women.

This year, five men with disability appeared in court as victims of domestic violence while one woman sued.

From January to December last year, the magistrate courts received 2 538 applications from men while women filed 6 916 matters, leaving the total number of domestic violence cases at 9 454.

BUSTED: Son Catches Adulterous Mom In Shower With Pastor

PASTOR Tawanda Muchirahondo, of Kingdom Shakers’ Ministries in Chikanga is at the centre of marriage disintegration after allegedly being caught bathing with a married female congregant.

The clergy and the married congregant, Melody Chizengwe nee Mandiamba’s allegedly secret romantic affair was exposed by the woman’s 14-year-old son.

The Chizengwe couple was blessed with two children and their marriage has since collapsed as a result of Melody’s alleged shenanigans with Pastor Muchirahondo.

This has left a huge dent on Rev Muchirahondo’s involvement in church ministry, a vital institution that holds both morality and the institution of marriage with high esteem.

That Melody’s husband, Stephen, is also an overseer in the same church has created a debate considering that the couple housed Pastor Muchirahondo under their matrimonial roof between January 2014 and July 2015.

At that time the clergy was still single.

“I housed him for more than a year and took him as my own brother and little did I know that he was also bedding my wife behind my back,” said a visibly angry Chizengwe.

Chizengwe’s trust in Pastor Muchirahondo went to the extent of assisting him with his car to do church work.

Chizengwe first got wind of it when his children confided in him that Pastor Muchirahondo was in the habit of visiting his wife each time he was away on business.

“It was my 14-year-old son who finally let the cat out of the bag when he told me that he had caught my wife and Pastor Muchirahondo enjoying themselves, while taking a bath together. I had heard the rumours about the two’s involvement last year, but dismissed it. It never crossed my mind that the Man of God would betray my trust to the extent of bedding my wife,” said Chizengwe.

“The moment I smelt the rat, I informed Pastor Muchirahondo over the issue and he denied it, and instead warned that I should make some wise decisions because it might be the work of the devil to destroy my matrimonial relationship.

“I then asked my wife if she is having an affair with him, but it seems as if I had chased her away from home because from that day she did not return home from work for the weekend. I then approached her parents in Chikanga to inform them that their daughter had strayed, but unfortunately her mother chased me away. I suspected that she knew something about the affair,” added Chizengwe.

Chizengwe could not camouflage the pain he was going through as he even alleged that Melody had the habit of sleeping around with married men.

“This time I will not tolerate her wayward and decadent behaviour. This is not the first time, she once did that before our wedding in 2007. She was seeing a married ZUPCO boss. I forgave her and decided that we move on, but now I have come to realise that a leopard does not change its spots.

Cheating is in her veins; extra marital affairs are part of Melody’s DNA. She keeps on sleeping with Pastor Muchirahondo and on the other hand she gets back to her adolescent sweetheart, one Mr Chinembiri. I am reliably informed that Melody visited her young sister’s place with Pastor Muchirahondo over the weekend. The whole idea was to have quality time as she begged her young sister for lodging with the clergy,” he added.

Pastor Muchirahondo denied the allegations saying he knew nothing about the alleged affair. He said that his comment would come from God.

“I simply do not have a comment on that matter, God will comment for me because I know nothing about that affair,” he said.

Melody also professed ignorance about the affair. She admitted that she once stayed with the churchman at their home sometime last year.

“I do not even know of what he is saying about me. He only wants to tarnish my image and that of the Man of God,” said Melody.

Campaigners claim Abdullah ah-Zaher, who attended the protest when he was 15 years was put on death row as part of a crackdown on political dissent.

The now 19-year-old has been moved to solitary confinement and could be beheaded at any moment.
Despite possible repercussions, his family have gone public with his story, in a final bid to save his life.
His father Hassan al-Zaher said:
“Please help me save my son from the imminent threat of death. He doesn’t deserve to die just because he participated in a protest rally.”
According to the campaign group, Reprieve, Abdullah was arrested for being in the area of a protest in March 2012, beaten by police and tortured.

He was then allegedly forced to sign papers police fabricated. Saudi media reports suggest 52 prisoners will be executed at any time.

Abdullah was held alongside Ali al-Nimr, who has been sentenced to a death penalty for allegedly instigating a revolution using his Blackberry.

A Reprieve spokeswoman said:
“What we know from the families of the three is that they are in solitary confinement and being prepared for execution.
“They have been moved and undergone medical examinations, which seem to suggest their beheading is imminent.

Married Father Arrested For Attempting To Rape Wife Of Immigration Officer

Detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos State, have arrested a man who allegedly beat up one of the female teachers in his children’s school for shunning his love advances. The man, Kazeem, 45, a father of four, was said to have pounced on the female teacher (names withheld) when she went to deliver a message to him from the school authority. The pretty teacher is the wife of a top immigration officer.

Recounting the incident to her mother and sister, the teacher, who was rushed to Elegbeleye Specialist Hospital, Ikosi Ketu said she was attacked at Kingsley Ahmed Hotel, Apaola Crescent, Ikosi Ketu, on November 27, 2015, at about 5pm. The suspect was described as one of the distinguished and respected parents of Sinclair Louis Primary and Secondary Schools, Agility, Mile 12 Lagos State. The matter was reported by the victim’s sister, Onome Owumi at Ketu Police Station and Kazeem was picked.
The victim, who is 33-year-old, is the Human Resources (HR) Officer of Sinclair Louis Schools. She was sent to deliver a message to Kazeem by the headmistress of the school, but the suspect attempted to rape her, after tricking her to meet him at the hotel. The victim’s sister, Owumi, a nursery school teacher, said Kazeem had always been interested in dating her younger sister.
According to Owumi, Kazeem used to inundate the victim’s phone with love messages. Owumi said: “My sister is married. She told him every time he wooed her that she was married. He however refused to listen to her. He continued to send her love messages.”
Narrating how the incident occurred, Owumi said: “On the fateful day, at about 4pm, my sister was sent to Kazeem by Mrs. Alawiye, the headmistress of the school. My sister is the HR of the school.
Part of her job is to speak with parents and persuade them to pay up their debts. Kazeem, being one of the well-respected parents in the school, was told that my sister would be coming to his office at Tipper Garage to speak with him on the debts he owed the school, since examination would soon start. “When she got to his office, he wasn’t there. She called his phone. He said he had just left the office and was at Aladelola Street, Ikosi.
My sister was annoyed and he immediately apologised. When she got to the place, she saw the man at the balcony of a house. She didn’t know it was a hotel. There was no sign to indicate the place was a hotel. He asked her to come upstairs. On getting there, she didn’t see him. She called out his name. He answered from a room.
My sister followed the sound of his voice. She found him inside a room. He was sitting on the bed. Innocently, she walked into the room. “After talking to him and showing him the necessary ways to go about paying up the debts, she stood up to leave.
On her way out, Kazeem held her hands. He told her that he wanted to speak with her. He said he liked her and would like to have sex with her. But my sister said that she couldn’t. She told him that she was already late for a church vigil.” Owumi said that Kazeem stood up, dashed to the door and locked it.
Although the lady was shocked at his behaviour, she attempted to explain to him that she couldn’t have sex with him because it was a taboo in her tradition. She told him that if she had sex with him, and later had sex with her husband, her husband would die. Owumi said that rather than listen to the lady’s explanations, Kazeem suddenly pushed her into the bed and pounced. As she struggled with him, he rained punches on her. He tore off her clothes and started touching her breasts.
The lady screamed and Kazeem allegedly tried to suffocate her with a pillow. Owumi said: “She grabbed his manhood when he tried to rape her, but he bit her on the neck.
As the struggle continued, she got weaker. Weary, she told him that she had accepted to have sex with him. She however said that she was fasting. She told him that she needed food to break her fast. He went out to get food, but padlocked the door. She quickly sent a text message to the headmistress and her husband that Kazeem was about to rape her. She had already seen a sticker in the room that showed the name of the hotel.”
The headmistress however called back when Kazeem had returned with the food. He asked his prey to pick the call and tell the caller that she was at Ibadan. It was later discovered that headmistress transferred the message to the principal of Sinclair Louis Schools. The principal forwarded it to the victim’s mother.
The woman received the message while she was in the church and immediately left in search of her daughter. The headmistress, Mrs. Alawiye, said that she never knew that the suspect could degenerate to the level of attempting to rape another man’s wife. Mrs. Alawiye said: “I told the lady (HR officer) to speak with Mr. Kazeem about the debts his children owed the school.
He has four children in our school and they were all sent home over debts. The money they owed the school was N108, 400. Since the exams would start on Monday, I told the HR to call their father and speak with him. I had no idea such a grave crime would occur.
“I saw a message sent earlier by the HR that she was in trouble. I called her immediately and she answered telling me all was well. I didn’t know she was under threat. I went home thereafter and then later forwarded the message to the principal to let him know about the message. It was the next day I got to hear the full story.
But I’m grateful that the HR was not raped, only, beaten and injured.” The manager of Kingsley Ahmed Hotel, where the incident occurred, introduced himself simply as Mr. Wale. He said that he was not aware of the incident until some policemen came to the hotel on investigation.
Wale recounted: “I know the lady. In fact, I’m a family friend. I know her mother because she sells frozen foods at Mile12. I was once a manager at a hotel in Mile 12. I didn’t even know she was the one until the police came searching. I was in my office. I had earlier gone to the bank and just returned.
I had no idea that the lady, whom Mr. Kazeem said would come to visit him had arrived. “We didn’t hear shouting. At about 2am, the police arrived at the hotel with the lady’s family. They said that there was a kidnap case in the hotel. I was shocked. I immediately took our bunch of keys and we proceeded in opening all the rooms. When we got to room 15, we knocked, but there was no answer. “At the second knock, the lady in the room shouted.
The policemen on hearing her shout immediately broke down the door. The man was naked, while the lady was with a bed sheet wrapped around her body.
The man wanted to run out, but the policemen pushed him back. “He was arrested and we all went to Ketu Police Station. All through the questionings, the lady insisted that he didn’t rape her, but only beat her up because she refused him sex. The man on the other hand, insisted that the lady was his girlfriend.”
The victim’s husband said he didn’t want his wife to speak with journalists or the matter to be in the papers. The suspect was arraigned on a three count charge at the Ogudu Magistrates Court, on December 1, 2015. Bail was given in the sum of N200, 000, with three sureties.
Kazeem couldn’t meet the bail conditions and remanded in Ikoyi Prison.
