24 year old Anita Oluchi Okore, a graduate of Banking and Finance from Abia state University (pictured above) was murdered a few weeks ago in Port Harcourt by men believed to be ritualists. According to a family member, Ada, who is based in Ebonyi, had gone to see her older sister in Port Harcourt when she unfortunately ran into these men.

Ada had called her dad to tell him she was about to enter a bus that will take her from the park to her sister's house. She later called her dad, informing him that she was the only woman in the bus with three men and they were taking her somewhere other than her destination.

Her father said he asked to speak with the men which he did and pleaded with them to free his daughter but all his plea fell on deaf ears as the men told him that they were not looking for a ransom and returned the phone back to his daughter. That was the last anyone heard from Anita...

Many weeks later, investigations by the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI), in Port Harcourt and the police, using Anita's call log, led to the arrest of the three men in a hotel where they were lavishing N1.5 million paid by their clients for the body parts of Anita.

They led the investigating team to the dump site where they kept the body Anita with her vital body organs cut off.

She was buried on Thursday, May 7th, 2015, in Eziobasi, Amodu Ututu, in Arochukwu LGA of Abia State, after a funeral service held at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Umule Parish, Aba.

Islamic State militants have executed at least 400 mostly women and children in Syria's ancient city of Palmyra. Eye-witnesses have reported the streets are strewn with bodies – the latest victims of the Islamic State's unrelenting savagery - on the same day photographs of captured Syrian soldiers have emerged.

It follows the killing of nearly 300 pro-government troops two days after they captured the city, now symbolised by a black ISIS flag flying above an ancient citadel


Sickening: A picture sent by activists to a Western journalist showed a row of men in a street in Palmyra — known locally by its Arabic name Tadmur — lying in a pool of blood. At least four had been decapitated

Syrian state television announced the most recent massacre, quoting residents inside the city, which is known as Tadmur in Arabic.

'The terrorists have killed more than 400 people.. and mutilated their bodies, under the pretext that they cooperated with the government and did not follow orders,' Syria's state news agency said.

It added that dozens of those killed were state employees, including the head of nursing department at the hospital and all her family members.

Harrowing pictures have also emerged of Syrian army troops captured during the fierce fighting as the city fell. The 20 soldiers, in military clothing, look disheveled as they kneel before cameras.

Officials say the Syrian army is deploying troops in areas near to the ancient town in apparent preparation for a counter-attack to retake the city from the Islamic State group.

Governor Talal Barazi of the central province of Homs, which includes Palmyra, said that IS members have 'committed mass massacres in the city of Palmyra' since its capture.
He said IS fighters took civilians, including women, to unknown destinations.
But he said retaliation was imminent, adding: 'there is planning, God willing, for a military action in the surroundings of Palmyra'.

Police are hunting a 21-year-old man suspected of stabbing to death his sister, six, their mother and her partner at their Oxfordshire home. The victims, who were found dead in the quiet town of Didcot last night, were named by police as Philip Howard, 44, pictured inset, Janet Jordon, 48, and Derin Jordon, 6, pictured together centre. Photographs of the family emerged this evening as officers continue their search for Jed Allen in connection with the triple murder.

Shocking images posted on Allen's Instagram show him holding an axe (pictured left) and even posing with Wolverine-style blades on his hands. Armed police are now hunting the 6ft-tall former groundsman, who has a distinctive spider tattoo on his left hand. (UK Daily Mail)

Former President Obasanjo said Jonathan mismanaged Nigeria.

When the Iyalode of Yoruba land, Chief Alaba Lawson, led a delegation of South-West women leaders on a visit to his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Former President Obasanjo told them that President Jonathan had dug the country into a deep hole within the last 8 years..


The 78-year-old leader said due to the mismanagement of the country in the last eight years, the incoming administration of the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, should be prepared to face the bad situation that was left behind by President Jonathan.


He said: “The country had been poorly managed in the last eight years and it would take some
time for Buhari’s government to correct the anomalies. But I want to tell him not to be frightened.”

He urged Nigerians to be really patient with the incoming administration because the damage that had been done to the country in the last eight years could not be corrected overnight.


“What I would say is that we should all put our minds at rest. He (Buhari) is someone that will perform but we must exercise patience because what has been destroyed for eight years cannot be undone overnight.


But like the Chinese proverb which says the journey of a thousand miles starts with a step, it is not only the first step (that matters) but the first step in the right direction because if you take a wrong step, you’re not likely to get to the destination,” he said.


He further said:
“When I came in 1999, there was no fuel and power. The situation was like this and I thought we have put that one behind us,” he stressed, even as he expressed confidence in the ability of Buhari to surmount the hurdle.


The man that is coming on board has a lot of experience in terms of governance. He is not a novice in governance having ruled the country as a military Head of State from 1983 to 1985.

 Nigerians need to exercise patience because what has been destroyed in eight years cannot be rebuilt in a day,” Obasanjo maintained.


Recalling his years as military Head of State between 1976 and 1979, Obasanjo said he worked closely with Buhari and that their association produced great results.

Further urging Nigerians to pray for Buhari, Obasanjo said the president-elect needs the cooperation of Nigerians in order to put the country on the right footing.


“Let’s give him time. Let’s pray for him and let’s cooperate with him. We are all concerned about the present situation of Nigeria.

 The expectation is very high but at the same time, there is a lot of goodwill internally and externally for the incoming government.


Once the incoming administration realises this and takes every step, particularly in the first three months when people will be watching and counting, I think for me, we will get there,” the former Peoples Democratic Party leader said.


Obasanjo warned Buhari not to take Nigerians for granted as he called on him to always be honest in his dealing with the populace.

He said that he believed that Buhari will take Nigeria to great heights.

“God has provided a new opportunity for Nigeria and Nigerians and I believe God does not make mistakes. There are two things I believe the incoming President appreciates; one is that he knows that the expectations of Nigerians are high and two, that he should not be frightened by the situation on the ground.”
