Child trafficking syndicate arrested in Delta by SARS

Suspected child traffickers recently arrested by the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) at the Delta State police command said they engage in the business to assist pregnant girls including married couples who don’t have children.

SARS rescued five children suspected to have been sold by members of the group who operate within Delta, Anambra, Cross River, Akwa-Ibom and Rivers state.
The suspects said:
“We sold babies between 1-5 years of age to those who have been married for several years without children. Some of us are nurses and supportive members of staff of health institutions.
We do not know how the police got wind of our illicit businesses while we were operating in Asaba and Onitsha. In most cases, a child costs between N250,000 to N500,000 while grown-up ones are sold for N1m.”
Investigation revealed that the suspects took the SARS operatives to Akwa-Ibom State where two children were rescued and two other persons, suspected to be members of their gang, were also arrested.
One of the suspects, Patience Okon said,
“Since their mothers cannot take care of their babies because of lack of money, we normally arrange for wealthy parents who have no children but in need of children, to come and buy from us and take them away. We issue receipts of payment to them, we don’t steal the children as police are alleging but the mothers of these children in most cases opt for their children to be sold. Some of them don’t even know the men who impregnate them while some would be hiding from their parents. So we actually help them to solve their problems”.
“We were just helping out some persons who are in need. We are not human traffickers even though we make money from it. The mothers of the babies wanted to throw them away so we came to assist these young girls so that they would not throw away the babies or kill them.”
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Alkali Baba Usman said that when they heard about the inter-state human and child trafficking syndicate cell in Asaba, SARS operatives proactively arrested the gang leader of the  group, saying that the suspect and her husband allegedly confessed to the crime and led the officers to their different hideouts in Anambra, Akwa-Ibom and Cross Rivers state.

Uterus transplants may soon help infertile women in the U.S. become pregnant

Within the next few months, surgeons at the Cleveland Clinic expect to become the first in the United States to transplant a uterus into a woman who lacks one, so that she can become pregnant and give birth. The recipients will be women who were either born without a uterus, had it removed or have uterine damage. The transplants will be temporary: each uterus will be removed after the recipient has had one or two babies, so she can stop taking transplant anti-rejection drugs.
Uterine transplantation is a new frontier, one that pairs specialists from two fields known for innovation and for pushing limits, medically and ethically: reproductive medicine and transplant surgery. If the procedure works, many women could benefit: an estimated 50,000 women in the United States do not have a uterus. But there are potential dangers.

The recipients, healthy women, will face the risks of surgery and anti-rejection drugs for a transplant that they, unlike someone with heart or liver failure, do not need to save their lives. Their pregnancies will be considered high-risk, with fetuses exposed to anti-rejection drugs and developing inside a womb taken from a dead woman.

Eight women from around the country have begun the screening process at the Cleveland Clinic, hoping to be selected for transplants. One, a 26-year-old with two adopted children, said she still wanted a chance to become pregnant and give birth.
“I crave that experience,” she said. “I want the morning sickness, the backaches, the feet swelling. I want to feel the baby move. That is something I’ve wanted for as long as I can remember.”
She traveled more than 1,000 miles to the clinic, paying her own way. She asked that her name and hometown be withheld to protect her family’s privacy.

She was 16 when medical tests, performed because she had not begun menstruating, found that she had ovaries but no uterus — a syndrome that affects about 1 in 4,500 newborn girls. She comes from a large family, she said, and always assumed that she would have children. The test results were devastating.

Dr. Andreas G. Tzakis, the driving force behind the project, said, “There are women who won’t adopt or have surrogates, for reasons that are personal, cultural or religious.” Dr. Tzakis is the director of solid organ transplant surgery at a Cleveland Clinic hospital in Weston, Fla. “These women know exactly what this is about,” he said. “They’re informed of the risks and benefits. They have a lot of time to think about it, and think about it again. Our job is to make it as safe and successful as possible.”

The hospital plans to perform the procedure 10 times, as an experiment, and then decide whether to continue. Dr. Tzakis said he hoped to eventually make the operation readily available in the United States.
Sweden is the only country where uterine transplants have been completed successfully — all at the University of Gothenburg with a uterus from a live donor. Nine women have had them, and four have given birth, the first in September 2014. Another is due in January. Their babies were born healthy, though premature. Two transplants failed and had to be removed, one because of a blood clot and the other because of infection.

New Defence Minister Warns That Pro-Biafra Protests May Destabilize Nigeria

Minister of Defence, Mohammed Dan Ali, has warned that the current wave of pro-Biafra agitations in parts of the South-East of the country may escalate and constitute threat to national unity.
“Nigeria is currently facing many indices of destabilization,” the Minister said yesterday when he resumed duties at the Ship House, headquarters of the Ministry of u in Abuja.

According to him, the Federal Government in collaboration with what he described as stakeholders
should brainstorm and come up with a roadmap in order to abort any processes that may destabilize the nation.

Etcetera says 'Nigerian lawmakers need psychological evaluation'

As written by Etcetera: One of the identified problems of investigative hearings and oversight of the executive arm is the multiplicity of committees with overlapping jurisdiction on the same subject matter. This has led to a situation where more than one committee is handling the same subject matter. Invitations are sent to the same officials of government by different committees on the same subject,” says Yakubu Dogara, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, while presenting the 8th House legislative agenda.

Dogara has reversed this statement and has gone ahead to increase the committees in the House of Rep from 84 to 95.

In other words, the Dogara- led House has told Nigerians that their clamour for the government to curb corruption and slash the cost of governance will continue to be a pipe dream. And they are also letting us know in very clear terms that as far as the overpaid national assembly members are concerned, it is all about sharing the booty.

This is coming as several ranking lawmakers of the 360-strong member chamber intensify lobbying for the headship of “Grade A” committees or what are otherwise considered “plum” committees.

Increasing the number of committees from 84 to 95, the House now has a rise in total allocation to the various committees.
Does it really make any sense splitting the committee on education into three – primary, secondary and tertiary education- and that on agriculture divided into two – mechanised and rudimentary agriculture?

I think this is simply the speaker compensating his supporters at the expense of the nation.

One question we should ask Mr Dogara is if it is not the same House of Representatives that had 20 committees under former Speaker, Umar Ghali Na’abba in 1999.

The United States is bigger than Nigeria in size and population and has a larger House of Representatives with 435 members, and it currently has 21 congressional committees, 20 of which are standing committees and one select committee.

Increasing the number of House Committees from 84 to 95 in the face of a dwindling revenue and their talks about ‘the need to cut cost of governance’ is hypocrisy of the highest order. The sad thing is that these guys are not doing anything for us. How it is that no member of the National Assembly has been recalled by his constituency beats me. What can 95 committees do that 20 can’t? How many members constitute a committee? Are we going to have one person in several committees?

Well, I guess yes, and no wonder they have been scrambling for “plum committees”. Plum? Isn’t that a word for milking the treasury? Are we supposed to have anything ‘plum’ in the House? With the amount of committees, then every member will definitely be a chairman of one committee or the other.

The entire business of legislation should be made a part-time thing and members paid only for the times they actually sit and engage in legislative business. This will save cost of running the National Assembly and make sense in the noise about reducing the cost of governance.

Meanwhile, another troubling story in the news is that of the Taraba State governor approving the appointment of 50 special advisers and 62 senior special assistants, totalling 112 aides, who shall be advising him in the Government House. How difficult is governing a state like Taraba that the governors need 112 advisers?

We must stop our so-called politicians from this madness. If a governor needs 112 advisers to run his government, why electing him at all? We need to be conducting psychological tests on our political office seekers.

They have fashioned another way to milk the nation. This is corruption at another level, if they cannot cut down the cost of running the government in a dire time like this, then they should stop singing about fighting corruption because they are even more corrupt than the people they accuse of corruption.

This Man Abducted A Woman, Tied Her Up And Raped Her 6 times Daily For 5 Weeks

A man identified as, Daniel Selovich has been arraigned for kidnapping, sexual as* sault and assault charges in Fairbanks Superior Court in Alaska.

He allegedly abducted a woman, kept her in his secluded cabin and raped her six times a day for five weeks.A woman told police an abductor ra’p ed her up to six times a day while she was held captive over a five-week period in rural Alaska, with the last attack committed as she heard a military evacuation helicopter landing near the man’s remote cabin to take her to a hospital.

Wilderness where the cabin is located
The woman said Daniel Selovich, who goes by the nickname Pirate, used duct tape to bind her two hands together at night and placed a rope around her neck, which he hung on the roof beam so she couldn’t run away, Alaska State Trooper Matthew Iverson wrote in an affidavit.

The affidavit said the woman arrived in Fairbanks on Sept. 26, and Selovich met her at the airport with a U-Haul. It wasn’t immediately clear how they knew each other or where she came from. She claimed the first rape occurred in the vehicle within hours of being picked up. They spent a few days at a Fairbanks motel, where they engaged in consensual sex, Dailymail reports.

Oct. 1, they flew to his cabin about 16 miles south of Manley Hot Springs, a tiny village at the end of Elliott Highway, the only road link to Fairbanks. They lived in a tent for a week while repairs were being made to the cabin, and that’s when the beatings and ra”p es began, she told Iverson.
She said Selovich beat her with his fists and belts, kicked her and bit her, and that the sex was not consensual. Iverson said troopers who searched the cabin with a warrant found a knife, several pieces of duct-tape and a roll of the tape. Troopers also found a rope tied to the roof beam.

SHOCKING!!! Finally Nnamdi Kanu’s Parents Releases SHOCKING Statement.

Nnamdis-parents
On Monday, November 9, at about 3.45pm, this reporter’s mobile phone rang and the voice on the other end was Femi Babafemi, Deputy Editor,Saturday Sun. “Okey, our cover story this week is on NK (Nnamdi Kanu). Please, trace his village and talk to his family members…., take a picture of his father’s house and possibly his parents, submission deadline is Wednesday.” It was an assignment like no other. As the thought of how to go about it was still running riot in me, another call came in. This time from an unknown caller, “Okey, I hope you people took note of what happened today (Monday)”, referring to the pro-Biafra protest which locked down the city earlier in the day.

“We will like to read the story in your paper tomorrow because you people always say the truth”, the caller added. On enquiry, the caller gave his name as Comrade Chukwuemeka Mba, “an activist”.

Reasoning the caller could be of help in handling the assignment, I inquired if he knew Nnamdi Kanu and he responded positively.

I then asked him over for a chat and Comrade Mba gladly accepted and it was fixed for Tuesday morning. The comrade came as scheduled and after interviewing him, the reporter intimated him of his plans to travel to Umuahia, to see Nnamdi’s parents and siblings.

“I was with Kanu in 2012 when we testran the Radio Biafra and he persuaded me to go with him to his village, but I could not because of some engagements, if I had gone with him, it would have been very simple locating his village, all the same I will go to Umuahia with you and we will locate the village”, he assured.

We left Aba a little past 11 in the morning on Tuesday and on getting to Ubakala, Umuahia, some 12 kilometres from Nnamdi Kanu’s village, we stopped to see a friend, an activist in his own right. We asked whether he knew Nnamdi and he responded, “I don’t know that chap, but I know the father closely, he is a traditional ruler of Isiama Afara, their fence wall is backing the Ojukwu bunker, go, people will show you the place.” “Oh! Nnamdi is a Prince was the thought that ran across my mind”.

We left for Isiama Afara, the hometown of the Director of Radio Biafra that has rattled the Nigerian government.
As we journeyed, due to the hard looks of one’s physiognomy, the approach to deploy to elicit response from the villagers became a problem because nobody would agree to talk to us if we had said we were looking for Nnamdi Kanu’s parents as they would have thought we were security operatives.
The thought of asking for the palace of the traditional ruler of the place readily came to mind and the man we asked, pointed towards the right, “go right, you will see his signpost”, he told us.
Behold, few metres away was the palace of HRM (Eze) Israel Okwu Kanu (JP) located on HRM (Eze) Kanu Drive, GRA Extension, Umuahia. On knocking on the gate of the main entrance into the palace, it was opened by a boy in his tens who was later joined by a man that was later to be the gatekeeper.

He enquired of our mission and after telling him, he said: “His Majesty is sleeping”, an answer that almost put one off balance. But before one could mutter any word, a lady that could pass for a half cast, in a British ascent asked, “Please, what can we do for you?” She ushered us into the palace that has the touch of modernity and offered us seats.

After introducing herself as Princess Kanu, the younger sister of Nnamdi, she told us the father was not available and we pleaded with her to speak in the monarch’s stead to which agreed.
As the interview was about to start, Princess Kanu said, “please, I hope you don’t mind, let me go and bring my dad” and we gladly agreed. After few minutes later, the monarch entered into the waiting room at about 4.00pm and the chat began.
Early life and trait of activism
Nnamdi’s father said the director of Radio Biafra was born in the 70s; he was not specific, at Isiama Afara. He attended Library Avenue Primary School (now part of Government House), Umuahia and went to Government College, Umuahia for his secondary education. After that, he gained admission to the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), where he could not finish due to incessant strikes before he left for London to complete his university education.

Did Nnamdi show any sign of activism when he was growing up? “Yes”, the royal father answered. “He showed signs of activism when he was growing up. I remember when he was in secondary school at Government College, Umuahia, he was the school prefect and he did well in leading other students.

After that, when he gained admission to the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), they will be in school for one month, and in the next three months, they will be at home due to strike.
One day, he called me and said because of this thing, he would no longer go to school in Nigeria and when I demanded to know why, he said he was tired of the everyday strike. What he was then doing at UNN when school was in session was to boycott classes and stayed on his own to study privately.

After a time, he told me again that he was wasting his time in Nigeria in his quest to have education and that he was going abroad to study. I weighed the possibility and I felt it was not there.

He insisted and came in contact with somebody from my place who said I had helped him sometime ago and that he would help my son to travel to London and he did that. That was how Nnamdi went to London to study”.

Another thing the traditional ruler said made him believe his son could do what he is doing today was that while in school, Nnamdi was very intelligent and his teachers respected him for that and they kept telling him that his son would be somebody in future.
Nnamdi and the Biafra struggle
HRM (Eze) Kanu stated that his son was with Ralph Uwazuruike in the early years of the formation of MASSOB but later left and started the struggle his own way and people started following him because of his uprightness, which he said created a lot problems for Nnamdi. According to him, “My son’s problem started with Ralph Uwazuruike, the MASSOB leader.

After my son left him, there was a time he (Nnamdi) went for a function at Oboro, Ikwuano, Umuahia, Uwazuruike gathered his men and scattered the whole place. The people of Oboro arrested some of the people that came to disrupt the event and took them to the police headquarters in Umuahia.

The following morning, I went to see them and admonished them to stop that type of behaviour, that all of them are fighting the same cause of Biafra freedom. That if my son wronged Uwazuruike, they should tell me and I will go and beg him. At the end, I found out that Nnamdi did not do anything but was opposed to the way MASSOB was collecting money from the poor and they go into the pocket of one man”.
Making of Radio Biafra
After the Oboro incident, as Nnamdi was going back to London, he was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. “When I was informed about his arrest, I rushed down to Port Harcourt, from there, I went to Abuja. At Abuja, the men at the DSS office treated me with respect and after explaining things to them, they asked me to take Nnamdi home.

It was when we came back that my son told me he was going to appear in his true colour, to make sure that Biafra was realised”. To start with, Nnamdi left his job in Britain where he is a citizen, to be fully involved in the struggle and built the Radio Biafra/TV which has taken the country like a storm.
Arrest and detention
When asked how he feels about Nnamdi’s arrest and detention, he has this to say: “Nnamdi is my first son. His arrest pains me a lot; it is not when I start crying like a child before people will know that his arrest is paining me to the marrow.

That chap has no problem, he is not a noisemaker, rather he abhors injustice. Since he was born, he had not exchanged words with we, the parents or even the siblings, always sitting quietly when we are having family meetings, but he always made quality inputs”.
Radio Biafra and justification of Nnamdi’s arrest
Nnamdi’s father said he listens to his son’s voice on radio and feels happy because he believes his son always says the truth and does not say such for his selfish interest, but for the interest of the people.

He gave thumbs down to the Federal Government for his son’s arrest stating: “It was not justified at all because he is fighting for the freedom of the Igbo with his mouth and without a machete or gun.

It is only that mouth Nnamdi is using to demand the freedom of the Igbo and whether the Federal Government likes it or not, he will continue to speak just as I used to do which made me to represent my people three times as a local government councillor. Talking runs in our blood stream and it will be difficult for Nnamdi to stop talking”.
Family support
Nnamdi, despite his present travail, enjoys the full support of his family members in the pro-Biafra agitation.

The father notwithstanding the fact that he had visited Nnamdi in Abuja since his present problem which he attributed to ill-health, but he was quick to add that he and Nnamdi’s younger ones were in Abuja to give him words of encouragement and seek his release.

Driving further home the family’s support for Nnamdi, Eze Kanu has this to say: “Even the younger ones are in support of what he is doing and that is why the immediate younger brother and the mother are in Abuja because of his arrest. This shows that they have interest in what he is doing and we are fighting for his release.

“As for my people of Isiama Afaraukwu, they are not silent over the matter, but the only thing is that during the civil war, Biafran army headquarters was in our place including the famous (Ojukwu Bunker) which shares boundaries with my palace, in fact, soldiers were living in my house and it could be that what the people saw during the war made them to be a little docile over this matter”.

Appeal to FG and Ndigbo
“I will first of all start with the Federal Government, I’m appealing to them to release my son, he has not come to wage war against the country and the Nigerian constitution made provision for freedom of speech and nothing will debar him from speaking.

President Muhammadu Buhari should understand that the agitation for Biafra did not start with Nnamdi. If Buhari has any bad plans against Nnamdi, he should hands off because all of us want that freedom. As for Ndigbo, they should join Nnamdi in seeing to the actualization of Biafra. I’m not always happy that my son is putting his all in the struggle, the other man, Uwazuruike will be somewhere behaving as if Nnamdi is his enemy.

I’m also not happy that since Nnamdi was arrested, no governor from this zone or a known politician for that matter has ever asked for his release, it is not good. I don’t know whether they are afraid to speak out”, he stated.

Standing behind his son like the Rock of Gibraltar, Eze Kanu said if his son was released today, there is no way he would advise him to forget about Biafra, stating that Nnamdi had told him it will be better for him to die than abandon the cause of Biafra.

Shocking :Death toll in Paris Terrorist massacre increases to 200, all 8 attackers supposedly dead

Terrorists wielding AK-47s and throwing explosives executed at least 118 people inside a Paris concert hall at the Bataclan late Friday night, in a massacre that followed coordinated attacks that killed at least 40 more people, rocking the French capital, prompting President Francois Hollande to close the entire nation's borders and declare a state of emergency. The death toll has increased from 158 to 200 according to latest reports.

Eyewitnesses said the terrorists all looked young, they walked into the theater and started shooting at people like they were birds. He said they stood at the back of the theatre in black clothing without covering their faces with any mask. They kept shooting and reloading for about 10 to 15 minutes.

The victims had gathered to see the American rock band Eagles of Death Metal, and a handful managed to escape through the roof and wherever they could.
They said the killers shouted "This is for Syria!" and "Alahu Akhbar!" as they cut down patrons from a balcony before the band took the stage.

The band members are said to be safe.

People said when the police arrived, and the terrorists knew they were cornered, they all blew themselves up with suicide vests. 4 of the terrorists killed themselves at the Bataclan, 3 were killed at the stadium while 1 was killed at a café.

Another eye witness said:
“It looked like a battlefield, there was blood everywhere, there were bodies everywhere," Coupris said. "I was at the far side of the hall when shooting began. There seemed to be at least two gunmen. They shot from the balcony.
“I saw my final hour unfurl before me, I thought this was the end. I thought, 'I’m finished, I’m finished,'" he said.

The terrorists reportedly used AK-47s, grenades and suicide vests to carry out this horrible event.
French authorities said all five attackers were "neutralized, one arrested and more could be at large in the combined attacks. Now they are trying to identify people who may have helped the terrorists.

As many as six other attacks occurred, involving shootings and at least two suicide bombers, including one who detonated near the city's Stade de France soccer stadium where the French and German national teams were playing in a match attended by Hollande. The French President was at the stadium to watch the match and was securely removed without any incident.

The death toll from all of the attacks is expected to rise.
“There are lots of dead people," said a witness believed to have been at the bar of a restaurant that was the scene of one attack. "It’s pretty horrific to be honest. I was at the back of the bar. I couldn’t see anything. I heard gunshots. People dropped to the ground. We put a table over our heads to protect us."

The French President has given authority to the French Police to knock on doors of Parisians and interrogate whoever they think might be a suspect.

Update:
The Police shot 1 of the attackers in the Bataclan theater and he blew up when he fell to the ground, 3 others blew themselves up in the theater.

3 blew themselves up at the stadium and 1 blew himself up at a café.

The death toll has risen to 200 while 80 people are reported injured.
