Read the press release below...
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Thursday inaugurates committee to boost household and business power supply, with a charge on them to work assiduously to create an enabling environment that will ensure 24-hour power supply to residents in the state.
The Governor who spoke at the Lagos House, Ikeja while inaugurating the Power Committee said it was a common knowledge that power supply is a major challenge, adding that it must be addressed in order to achieve sustainable economic growth and development in Nigeria and Lagos State in particular.

He said that in view of the importance of the Lagos economy to the nation and the concerns that have been expressed particularly by the business community, his administration has considered it expedient to constitute an advisory committee on power, adding that no state in the federation is more affected by the state of the power sector than Lagos.

The Governor said that Lagos State accounts for over 60 percent of the industrial and commercial activities in Nigeria, emphasizing that the energy requirement for the state is estimated at about 5,000 Mega Watts of which only about 1000 Mega Watts is currently being supplied; hence the need to inaugurate a committee that would ensure the power need of the people is met.

He said members of the Committee consist of representatives from the State Government and industry experts from the private sector urging them to provide a sustainable guide in the development of a roadmap for reliable power supply in the state, foster collaboration and develop a congress or platform for all major power stakeholders in the state and the private sector.

Members of the Committee include the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Mrs. Oluranti Adebule, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Wale Oluwo, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem and the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde.

Other members of the committee include representatives of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company,   Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Transmission Company of Nigeria, Gaslink Nigeria Limited, Falcon Corporation Limited and Egbin Power Plc.

Governor Ambode, shortly after the inauguration tasked the committee to make electricity available to Lagosians for both business and domestic use, just as he expressed confidence that they would not disappoint Lagosians.

The Governor also hinted that in order to underscore his administration’s commitment to security of the lives and property, his administration has embarked on an aggressive programme of lighting up Lagos and explained that major highways and streets are being connected  from point to point using Independent Power Projects (IPPs) and other means effectively.

He also encouraged individuals, private homes and corporate organizations to take up streets or roads of their choice and light them up with connections to their meters and generators, assuring that the state government will reciprocate the gesture by giving concessions to them in the payment of their annual Land Use Charges.

“In addition, they shall receive Special Commendation letters from the Governor. Such projects will also be commissioned by government officials and Community Development Associations. We believe that this initiative will promote a new culture of co-operation and ownership”, he said.

Earlier, Commissioner for Energy, Mr. Wale Oluwo said with the success of the IPPs, the state which provides 24-hour power supply to public facilities, the state government is working towards ensuring that residents in the state can enjoy regular power supply in their homes.

Kidnappers & Ritualist On Rampage In Lagos; Cases Of Murder & Missing Persons On The Rise.

Kidnappers & Ritual Killers On Rampage In Lagos; Cases Of Murder & Missing Persons On The Rise. The rate at which people go missing in Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos, coupled with issues relating to ritual murders, is becoming frightening and must be nipped in the bud by the government and all

authorities concerned. The Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, DSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, otherparamilitary organisations and even the state-owned Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and the Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI, must now improve their surveillance activities.
Just this week, the family of Adekanle Adedoyin, a student of the University of Lagos, raised the alarm that their son was missing. The young boy who left home for school neither got to his destination nor returned home. When his phone was tracked, the location showed the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, several kilometres away from where he was supposed to be.
On 23 October, Martin Udogie, a resident of the state who is married and has children, also went missing. According to the family, he was last seen on that day at Maryland near Ikeja, Lagos with his red colour Peugeot 206 saloon car with registration number LY 594 AAA. With his photographs on social media, they are now pleading with Nigerians to either contact the family, the Bar Beach Police Station or the nearest police station if found.
Last week, there was the case of five young girls whose corpses were found dumped at a place in Ikorodu, a bustling suburb of Lagos. A sixth body was said to have been found the following day. It was mutilated. Clues to their murder have remained obscure till this moment. Days ago, the family of a girl, who was said to have travelled from Abuja to Lagos with a friend, said the girl had been missing. They explained that the girl’s friend told them their daughter, while in Lagos, got a call by someone asking her to come to Ikorodu. It is not known yet if she was one of those killed.
Not too long a ago, four corpses of some ladies were found dumped somewhere in Alimosho area of the state after the corpses were mutilated. The situation is not different in Shomolu, Mushin, Ebute Metta and other areas of the state where cult gangs have been on the rampage killing innocent residents.
In November, an unoccupied two-story building in Olorunfunmi Street at Ekore, a densely populated area of Oworonsoki, Lagos was discovered to be used by ritualists. The police had once revealed that at least four people were declared missing in Lagos every week. And these range from children to adults.
Now that the state government has taken the issue of security as a major focus with the investment of over N4 billion on purchase of equipment, vehicles and arms for the police alone and further rebranding of LASTMA and KAI, there is no longer any excuse for failure. In the absence of state police, the Neighbourhood Watch and the Vigilante Service of Nigeria should be strengthened for effective policing of communities.
With the Yuletide season already here, there will be increase in crime rate as desperate outlaws seek money at all costs to partake in the celebrations. Residents must be vigilant not to fall prey to the anti-social elements now on the prowl.

News News :Lagos shuts 53 churches, mosques, hotels

Lagos State Government yesterday shut down 53 churches, mosques and hotels over noise pollution and environmental nuisance in the state. Some of the worship centres were shut because they were converted from residential apartments to places of worship thereby contravening the law and constituting nuisance to neighbours.
Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA General Manager, Engr Rasheed Shabi, while commenting on the closures said the agency received lots of complaints from residents and neighbours of the worship centers ‎

“In recent times, most of the petitions kept coming back to us. It was as if we are not working at all. That was why we shut the premises. You cannot have makeshift structure and say you want to be conducting services or vigil there. Definitely, you will be disturbing your neighbours. So, the government won’t allow the use of makeshift facilities as a church or mosque. Nobody is allowed to make noise above 55 decibel during the day in the residential area and only 45 decibel is allowed in such area at night.

In the industrial areas, 90 decibel of noise is allowed during the day while the noise rate must not exceed 80 decibel at night in such areas. The compliance level is increasing. More residents now understand the effect of noise. Some of the religious houses are also complying with the noise pollution regulations,”.
