Goodluck Jonathan's Last Week As President Has Seen Nigeria Shut Down Due To Power Cuts And Fuel Scarcity.

Hello guys ,

What Cost Jonathan Power In The End.

First impressions, they say, are everything. Not the same for anyone who is president of a country like Nigeria.

With Nigerians, last impressions are just as important as first impressions. Goodluck Jonathan’s last week as President has seen Nigeria shut down due to power cuts and fuel scarcity.

Lives have been lost, airlines cancelled flights, media houses and banks closing early, telecom companies declaring their services would be hampered by the scarcity of diesel.

One could argue, despite the turmoil that characterised his tenure, that this has been Jonathan’s worst week as President.

In the midst of what has looked increasingly like a national security issue, the government has offered nothing in terms of explanations or an attempt to offer the way forward.

But to sum the Jonathan administration up through the events of the last one week would be unfair.

It would amount to saying a President who led a country for five years can be judged according to what happened within just a week. Yes, there has been a clear display of government failure over the last one week but the truth is, this administration has been failing for the better part of the last five years.

It is only expectedly signing out, looking to clear the minds of those who ever doubted its incompetence to have such doubts cleared.

President Jonathan will be remembered as that man who appeared uninterested as Nigerians battled a cabal to have him installed as acting president, and eventually president.

He was that politician that Nigerians, ignoring the platform he ran on, instead assumed they could vote for him without regard to the party he was representing.

Many will remember President Jonathan for insisting the October 2010 Abuja Independence Day bombing had nothing to do with MEND despite the group insisting it carried out the terrorist attack.

Between 2010 and 2011, Jonathan was clearly the most loved politician in the country. His seeming harmless mien combined well with a good messaging had him win the 2011 election despite claims by certain people the election was rigged.

Maybe, the election was indeed rigged but he really was the most popular candidate in 2011, hands down! That didn’t last. By January 2012, the President had burnt all the goodwill he enjoyed with the people.

Allowing marketers and corruption combine to milk the country of N1.6tn subsidy payments was bad enough, the President was now seen as working with the same cabal to transfer the cost of corruption and the inefficient subsidy system to the people.

The revolt lasted for weeks but the President had his way by increasing fuel prices to N97 from N65.

He had his way then, many Nigerians simply bided their time. Maybe, things would have turned out differently had the administration prosecuted and jailed those mainly responsible for the 2011 subsidy heists, we will never know.

Maybe, doing something about the increasing cost of governance would have made a difference will be hard to guess but things only got worse for the administration from there.

Boko Haram’s bombing activities became intense and persistent. If some thought he could not have done much about the bombings, a few would forgive him for the things he did just after some of such bombings.

Two Nigerian states, Kaduna and Yobe, were under attack when the President departed the country to attend the Rio+20 United Nations Summit in Rio, Brazil.

The smoke from the previous day’s bombing of Nyanya had not disappeared while the President was already in Kano, not only receiving an Ibrahim Shekarau defecting for the umpteenth time but indeed captured on camera dancing!

The President was dancing while the nation mourned! Things simply kept piling up.Fifty nine boys got butchered at Buni Yadi while the President and his handlers partied on, under the guise of a centenary celebration. Several more gaffes like that became the norm rather than the exception.

If the President cared about the predicament of the North-East and its endless devastation in the hands of Boko Haram, his actions showed the exact opposite.

Then came the abduction of the Chibok girls in April. What followed is unforgivable and Nigerians indeed refused to forgive the administration on this one.

Several acts of negligence, indecision and outright carelessness have simply meant that over 400 days after, the Chibok girls remain abducted.

You better not even try to imagine what life would be for them now, for those of them that survived the snakes of Sambisa Forest and the terror of mad Abubakar Shekau and his fellow gang of murderers.

The government was desperate to wish the Chibok issue away so it adopted the Bring Back Our Girls advocacy group as its opposition.

It should never have done that; it lost that particular battle because at each turn, #BringBackOurGirls always showed the President and his government as not as interested in rescuing the girls as it was in making it look like the group was an enemy of the state.

Many things went down under the administration, that if Jonathan ever decides to reflect on his time as president, without the burden of office and the stanching miasma of sycophants, he’d see that he was the one person responsible for his own fall from power.

Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke stayed on forever as Minister of Petroleum Resources, while each new day she spent in office helped to further deplete the President’s political capital.

She was an unnecessary liability he should have done away with strategically; she stayed on so they would both deservingly leave together this Friday.

Princess Stella Oduah was eventually eased out of office but it was already an act too little – no prosecution – and too late. Seeing as it was apparent she had ordered two cars with N255mn of taxpayers’ money.

There’d be no need to state that Abba Moro, Minister of Interior, who was culpable in the death of some 19 National Immigration Service job applicants in March of 2014, will this week exit government in the very same position.

That was an identity of the Goodluck Jonathan administration: incompetence was fine as long as loyalty was guaranteed; corruption was permission as long as usefulness to the government via election donation was on the cards.

Heck! Embattled Buruji Kashamu was President Jonathan’s main ally in the South-West in the run-up to the 2015 elections.

Things were really that bad. When your administration has to deal with endless reports of missing money, missing children and adults, missing accountability and have that combined with endless political battles against the likes of Olusegun Obasanjo and governors of your own party, you’d have needed more than luck to retain power.

In the end, luck could only take Goodluck so far. In 48 hours, Nigerians will be saying goodbye to Goodluck Jonathan.

You can bet most of them will not care about a farewell, there is proof of that, they made him the very first casualty of a loss by an incumbent president in the history of Nigeria.

For Jonathan though, his concession call to Buhari was probably the most important thing he did as President.

That call was not just about him conceding the election, it did help to quell tension across the country. History will not be fair if it forgets to credit him for this.

So then, Jonathan was a very bad President who somehow did a very good thing on his way out of power. Goodbye Jonathan!

KIDNAPPERS DEMAND AK -47 , MACHINE GUNS AS RANSOM.

Hello guys ,

Kidnappers Demand AK-47, Machine Guns As Ransom.

The Rivers State Police Command has said that two suspected kidnappers have confessed that they demanded one AK-47 and 12 general purpose machine guns as ransom for the release of their victim, Mrs. Chinyere Olumma.

Olumma was rescued on Friday, May 22.The suspects, according to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, had given the family of the victim an option of paying N50m as ransom or providing one AK-47 and 12 general purpose machine guns before their victim would be released.

Mohammad, who spoke with newsmen on Tuesday, disclosed that the hoodlums had initially collected the sum of N1m from Olumma’s family for the upkeep of their victim.Luck, however, ran out of the two suspects as they were rounded up by the police in Abua as they shared the N1m meant for the victim’s upkeep.

They were caught in one of the suspects’ room.“It was sometime around 1am in the morning, they kidnapped one woman by the name Mrs. Chinyere Oluma from Erema in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area. They kidnapped her and then made contact with the family of the victim.“

They demanded N50m with an option of providing one AK-47 rifle and 12 RPMG, that is General Purpose Machine Gun. The kidnappers called the family of the victim to give them N1m for the upkeep of the victim and themselves.

The N1m you see with them is the money they demanded for the upkeep of the victim and themselves. So, this money you are seeing is the N1m that was given to them.

They (kidnappers) did not know we were tracking them after they received the N1m.“So, we tracked and caught them at Abua. When our men got there, they were four and they were with the money before they were arrested.

You can see the charms we recovered from them. On their way coming from their hideout, their colleague from behind opened fire on our men. Our men injured one of the hoodlums, who later died in a hospital and then, one of them escaped.

The two we have here could not escape and out of the pressure mounted on them, they took our men to where they kept the woman (their victim) inside the bush near Egbeda,” Mohammad said.Apart from the cash sum of N1m recovered from them, a rope used in tying their victim to a tree was also recovered from the suspected kidnappers.

However, one of the suspects, identified as Solomon Obigwe, said he never knew that his friend (Christian Enwe) was a kidnapper and that he was unfortunate to be with him (Enwe) and his friends when police struck.

Obigwe, who was silent on the confession he made to the police, pleaded for forgiveness and promised to turn a new leaf.“I was there when he (Christian Enwe) came in with his friends with his bag. As he came, he told me as a younger brother that we should go to my house.

When we got there, I asked how manage they got such money. They told me they kidnapped somebody and the person paid them this money.“We argued over their action. I have never kidnapped before and I have never had that in mind since I was born.

I was arguing about how they got such amount of money when police came and arrested four of us,” Obigwe said.

Buhari Orders Keyamo To Step Down From Prosecuting Timipre Sylva .

Hello guys ,

Buhari Orders Keyamo To Step Down From Prosecuting Timipre Sylva - Breakingtimes.

Popular lawyer, Festus Keyamo, has withdrawn as prosecuting counsel in a corruption case between the Federal government and former Governor Timipre Sylva of Bayelsa State.Mr.

Keyamo said he was stepping down as the lead prosecutor for the case instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, due to recent developments which could hinder him from prosecuting the case effectively and vigorous. He did not give details of the developments.‎“

Kindly recall that sometime in 2012, the Commission briefed my Chambers to prosecute Charge No. FHC/ABJ/CR/23/2012; Between: The Federal Republic Of Nigeria V. Timipre Sylva, he wrote in a letter to the EFCC.“Since then, we have diligently prosecuted the Charge and successfully opposed the bid of the accused person to quash the Charge in limine.

The court ruled in our favour for the trial to commence and the Court of Appeal also refused to stay proceedings in the trial.

“However, certain recent developments (in respect of which I would prefer not to elaborate) have necessitated my decision to withdraw from further prosecution of the said Charge.

This is because these recent developments may hamper my effective, efficient and vigorous prosecution of the Charge, duties that are expected of every prosecutor” Keyamo said in the letter made available to journalists.

However, an inside source in the All Progressives Congress (APC) who spoke to BREAKING TIMES on condition of anonymity disclosed that the President-Elect, Muhammadu Buhari it was who ordered Keyamo to stay off the case as part of attempts to kill the case for Timipre Sylva who is the Chairman of the Buhari May 29 Transition Committee.

Keyamo, a strong supporter of the Buhari presidential campaign is believed to have the ears of the incoming President on legal matters.

According to our source, with Keyamo’s involvement in the case as prosecuting counsel, Timipre Sylva would not escape conviction. “

Timipre actually begged the President-Elect to soften the grounds for him as his possible conviction would do more damage that Buhari will not recover from”, the source said.

The trial of Timipre Sylva had been fixed for Monday.Mr. Sylva was docked alongside his co-accused in July 2014 for allegedly using three companies to siphon funds from Bayelsa state treasury between 2009 and 2012.‎

The companies are Marlin Maritime Limited, Eat Catering Services Limited, and Haloween-Blue Construction and Logistics Limited.

Now, the 37 year old is talking about her painful split from the 30 year old sportsman, who has recently been linked with a bunch of teen models including Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid.

Speaking about the reasons for them separating and how she's coping, Nicole told People magazine
'Sometimes people stay in relationships because they get complacent, because it's comfortable for them, because they don't want to be alone.

It's a new chapter in my life. I'm going through a very transformative time in my life.'

'For me, what's helped me to get through this is I'm a quite spiritual person. It's grounded me, and I realize that I do have a great purpose in life. If relationships or people in your lives are meant to be, then they'll come back around, but that shouldn't be what's holding you back.

'A lot of the time when you're in a relationship, you lose yourself and you lose who you are and what makes you special. You're always putting all your energy on someone else, so find yourself again. Build yourself back up and be that big, radiant light.'

FG Warns 'Filling sation caught selling above The N87, will Have its Licence Revoked'

Hello guys ,

Stations Caught Selling Above The N87, Will Have Its Licence Revoked – FG Warns

The Federal Government yesterday moved to enforce the regulated pump price of petrol at N87 per litre days after a biting scarcity, occasioned by the disruption of the supply system, forced price to rise as much as N500 per litre. The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), in a statement, warned filling stations against selling above the official pump price or risk being shut down.

The DPR’s position came a day after a deal by fuel marketers and the Federal Government led to the restoration of lifting the commodity, leading to the easing of the fuel short age that worsened in the last two weeks. However, a former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has considered the deal between the marketers and government as a short-term solution to the frequent fuel shortage in Nigeria and called on President Goodluck Jonathan to urgently remove subsidy before he hands over to the President-elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday.

This came as the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association (DAPPMA), an association of marketers and importers, disowned one of its members, Capital Oil and Gas Limited, for being “mischievous,” over claims that the association was on strike, an allegation, he claimed caused fuel scarcity.

The DPR, in a statement by its Head Public Affairs, Dorothy Bassey, tasked Nigerians to report any marketer who sells the product above the regulated price to its officials or law enforcement agents. “While the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) is making every effort to ensure that fuel is available and reaches every part of the nation, it is hereby emphasised that the Federal Government has not increased the price of fuel. “The price remains at N87. Any station caught selling above the stipulated price, will have its licence revoked.

“No station should sell in jerry cans as there is enough fuel and for safety reasons. Any station caught dispensing into jerry cans will be sealed. “We ask that the public exercise caution and cooperate with all guidelines and processes for the safety of all,” it said.

However, in his reaction to the fuel crisis, Kalu, while calling on the president to float fuel price, said if Jonathan should fail to stop the subsidy regime, which has cost Nigerians over N6.354 trillion in the last five years, Buhari should implement it immediately he is sworn in on Friday. Kalu, in a statement yesterday, said: “The Federal Government has spent N6.354 trillion as subsidy on petroleum products in the last five years, when President Goodluck Jonathan assumed leadership of Nigeria.

Penultimate week, it paid N156 billion to oil marketers, bringing total payment to over N500 billion in five months, including over N300 billion in two instalments in December last year and N31 billion in interest differentials recently. “In 2010, a total of N673 billion was paid on subsidy, rising significantly to N1.3 trillion in 2011, before being revised upwards to N2.19 trillion by the Ministry of Finance, after arrears were paid in 2012 for products consumption in 2011.

“In 2012, the sum of N888 billion was allocated to subsidise petroleum product imports in the budget, but in December, a supplementary budget of N161.6 billion for payment of arrears of fuel subsidy was submitted by the president and later approved by the National Assembly. “By the following year, 2013, the government earmarked N971 billion for petroleum subsidy.
For 2014, the Federal Government again budgeted N971.1 billion for payments of subsidy, keeping it at the same level with that of 2013.

“Though, despite insinuations and reports that there was no provision for fuel subsidy in the 2015 budget, the Senate Committee Chairman on Finance, Ahmed Makarfi, cleared the air, saying that a total of N100 billion was provided for as subsidy for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), while N43 billion was approved for Dual Purpose Kerosene for the 2015 fiscal period. “You can imagine what the N6.345 trillion spent on subsidy can be used for in terms of infrastructural development in this country.

” According to Kalu, it is high time Nigeria stopped wasting public funds on subsidy, which benefits only the rich. He described the fuel subsidy regime as nothing but fraud, which is only benefitting a few people.

“The subsidy is not benefitting the poor because the marketers smile to the bank after collecting the full benefit on the over 40 million litres of products (PMS and DPK) consumed by Nigerians per day, leaving a lopsided distribution network, where not all Nigerians are able to get the products at the regulated price of N87 per litre. “In fact, a recent study showed that it is only in Lagos and a few urban centres that the products are sold at regulated prices.

The larger chunk of the populace buys the product still at exorbitant prices despite subsidy.” Kalu, who lamented the agony and suffering Nigerians who voted Jonathan into power four years ago have had to go through, said the subsidy regime could not be sustained. Besides, he urged the Jonathan administration to stop playing politics with the apparatus of government by using it to intimidate and embarrass innocent citizens. Rather, he said, such agencies should be used to fight corruption. “All these intimidation is damaging a lot of serious business people in this country.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) knows who those corrupt people are and where to get them. How would a public officer wake up one day and buy a house in Maitama and hop on private jet every minute? Nigeria should get serious,” he added.

Meanwhile, DAPPMA in a statement yesterday by its Executive Secretary, Mr. Olufemi Adewole, criticised Mr. Ifeanyi Uba’s Capital Oil and Gas Industries for its claim that marketers were on strike. It said the company was being mischievous as it “had been disqualified from the Petroleum Support Fund (PSF) scheme by the government regulatory agency and does not import PMS (petrol).”

“The company is not owed a kobo under the ‘PSF scheme as they cannot make any claim, hence they do not feel the impact of non-payment of subsidy reimbursements; instead, the company stores petroleum products for NNPC/ PPMC under a ‘throughput arrangement’ as do a few other members of our association,” it added.

It was also learnt yesterday that the outgoing government has agreed to pay $800 million debt to fuel marketer to resolve the fuel crisis crippling the economy. The ABC News, in a report, quoted an Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) source to have said that the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, agreed on Monday to pay the marketers the $800 million. There was no immediate statement from the minister, who accused the suppliers of holding Nigeria to ransom over the disputed debt, bemoaning, “so much fraud allegations and scams in this business of oil marketing.”

Mum gets $2million from us gvt for the beating to death of her 5year old daughter by former olider dad.

Hello guys,

Mum to get $2m from US govt for the beating death of her 5year old daughter by former soldier father.

The U.S. government will pay an Atlanta woman Tarshia Williams (right) $2 million for the Hawaii beating death of her 5yr old daughter at the hands of a former soldier in 2005.

Talia Williams (left), died after she was beaten by father Naeem and stepmother Delilah. The man kicked the little girl so hard he left a boot imprint on her chest. The woman sued the US Army for failing to protect the girl from her father and she won the case. She is now getting $2million. Read full story after the cut...

The settlement amount was announced Tuesday at a brief hearing in federal court in Honolulu.Tarshia Williams filed the lawsuit against the government over the 2005 death of her daughter, Talia. The lawsuit, filed in Honolulu in 2008, claimed the military didn't report to the proper authorities that Talia's father and stepmother "abused and tortured" her throughout the seven months she lived in Army housing in Hawaii.

"I will never have complete closure because my daughter is gone," she said by phone after the hearing. "And all the abuse she went through, I will never get over that. My healing will never be complete."

In what was the first death penalty case to go to trial in the history of Hawaii's statehood, Naeem Williams was convicted of murder in his daughter's death and sentenced to life in prison without possibility for parole.

Talia's stepmother, Delilah Williams, testified against her husband as part of a deal with prosecutors for a 20-year sentence. She provided disturbing details of abuse that included withholding food for days at a time, keeping her out of school to hide from others the physical signs of beatings and whipping the child while she was duct-taped to a bed.

Talia died July 16, 2005, after prosecutors say her father dealt a blow so hard it left knuckle imprints on her chest.

The settlement brings some relief because it ends years of litigation and prevents Tarshia Williams from having to return to Hawaii for a nonjury trial that was scheduled for June, she said.

"I just been through it last year," she said of testifying at the murder trial and sitting through graphic accounts of what Talia suffered. "I don't have to go through all the things that happened to her all over again. It will always be in my mind. It will never go away."
At Naeem Williams' trial, she testified that the last time she saw Talia was when the child left South Carolina to live with her father in Hawaii. She said the last time she spoke to Talia was by telephone on July 2, 2005.

The settlement has been approved by the Justice Department and will be paid in about six to eight weeks, Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Helper said in court. He declined to comment after the hearing.

Tarshia Williams and her Honolulu attorneys want to work on federal legislation that that would require the military to directly report child abuse to state child protective services, said one of her attorneys, Mark Davis.
"We hope that what may come out of this case are some fundamental, systemic changes," Davis said. "There were so many opportunities that were missed to try to remove this child from this toxic environment."

A judge's 2010 ruling noted some of those missed opportunities, including one on June 29, 2005. "The military police responded to the Williams' home, but despite finding Talia, 'naked and mute, in a room standing near feces on the floor' and thinking 'something did not look right,' no reports were ever made to CPS," said the order by U.S. District Judge Alan Kay in allowing the lawsuit to move forward.

"She would be about 15 now," Tarshia Williams said. "She would be in high school

Gov Ameaechi replies Nyesom wike , says 'A thief cannot call me corrupt '

Hello guys,

A thief cannot call me corrupt' - Gov Amaechi replies Nyesom Wike Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi says the governor elect of his state, Nyesom Wike cannot accuse him of being corrupt and wanting to probe him because according to him "a thief cannot call me corrupt".

Wike had on Monday said in a press release that he will be probing Governor Ameachi once he assumes power as Governor on Friday May 29th.

Speaking yesterday May 26th at a public lecture at the Dr. Obi Wali International Convention Centre as part of the activities to mark his 50th birthday which is today May 27th, Gov Amaechi said he had being listening to Wike who should not forget was once his Chief of staff and that if he had no other records at all, he has the records of Wike while he served as his COS.

Governor Amaechi in his speech said he had never killed anyone and will never kill anyone for whatever reason.
"I have been listening to Mr. Nyesom Wike and I have been trying not to reply him. He has been accusing me of corruption and I have been trying to keep quiet over the issue of corruption.

A thief cannot call me corrupt. The first lesson he needs to learn is that he was Chief of Staff to my government. If I have no records, I have records on him. One way we succeeded in moving this state forward was that we refused to probe Dr. Peter Odili's government, despite the pressure on me to probe Dr. Odili's government, because at the end of the day, they will not ask me the number of persons I probed, but what I did while in government. This convention centre (built by his government) is one of the testimonies. If we had gone to the Obi Wali Cultural Centre (in Mile One, Diobu, Port Harcourt, now taken over by Sliverbird Cinema), the hall would have looked very full. This hall accommodates 2,200 persons.

The convention centre is very big. On top of the roof is a plenty space for big parties, for those who want to organise 'Owambe' and there are many conference/committee rooms in the hall. "The road to Nyesom Wike's father's house was built by me.A relation of mine was killed in front of Wike's father's house, during the 2015 general elections. I am a Christian. I have never killed anybody and I will never kill anybody. Instead of killing somebody, I will give up my ambition.

Anybody's life is greater than any ambition I will have on earth. Nigerians need to be honest and transparent. I recently had a conversation with my first son on the phone and he said he was proud of me, because they cannot write the history of Nigeria, and the transition from one civilian government to another, without including me.I laughed and my son said everybody knew the role I played, the struggle and the fact that my family was torn into different parts and my children could not see me, but that they are proud to have a father like me.

That, for me, is my greatest achievement. God did not put me to shame. I will be leaving office as Rivers Governor very proud. President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife (Dame Patience); Nyesom Wike; soldiers and police could not remove me from office. When I pray, in front of me all the time is God. That is why I am always victorious. If you want to fight me, you must first defeat God, which is impossible. Nobody can overcome God. I have won already."he saidHello guys ,
