A 22-year-old woman in a remote northern region of Afghanistan had her nose cut off by her husband on Monday, January 18. Fawzia Salimi, a hospital director in Maymana, capital of Fayab province, said the victim Reza Gul was brought early Monday morning having lost a great deal of blood.

Gul's husband, Mohammed Khan, 25, has since fled their village. Ms. Salimi said the Afghan-Turk Hospital in Maymana was trying to arranging transport for Ms. Gul to Turkey for further treatment.

Gul's photograph has sparked online anger, with activists demanding punishment for what one called a ‘barbaric act.’

Faryab Governor's spokesman Ahmad Javed Bedar confirmed the incident to AFP. "Mohammad Khan (the husband) cut off Reza Gul's nose with a pocket knife," he said.

The incident highlights the endemic violence against women in Afghan society.

"Such a brutal and barbaric act should be strongly condemned," Kabul-based women's rights activist Alema told AFP.

"Such incidents would not happen if the government judicial system severely punished attacks on women," added Alema, who goes by one name.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the husband to attack Gul, the mother of a one-year-old child who was married off five years ago as a teenager.

Bedar said Khan, an unemployed man, had recently returned from neighbouring Iran and may have joined the Taliban after fleeing home following the attack.

Nigeria signs agreement with UAE on recovery of stolen funds

Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) today Tuesday January 19th in Abu Dhabi signed six agreements to enhance bilateral relations between them.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Femi Adesina, the signing of the agreements on trade, finance and judicial matters was witnessed by Pres. Buhari and the Crown Prince of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Nigeria's Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun and the UAE Minister of State for Financial Affairs, Obaid Attayar signed the Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement, while the Minister of Trade and Investment, Mr Okechukwu Enelamah signed the Agreement on Trade Promotion and Protection with the UAE Minister of State for Financial Affairs.

The Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami and his counterpart in the United Arab Emirates, Sultan Bin Saeed Albadi signed the Judicial Agreements on Extradition, Transfer of Sentenced Persons, Mutual Legal Assistance on Criminal Matters, and Mutual Legal Assistance on Criminal and Commercial Matters, which includes the recovery and repatriation of stolen wealth.

At a reception after the signing of the agreements, President Buhari reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption and restoring Nigeria's dignity in the comity of nations.

The President also urged all Islamic countries to support the fight against terrorism in Nigeria and denounce the atrocities of Boko Haram as un-Islamic and against the teachings of the Holy Prophet.

In his remarks, Crown Prince Zayed Al Nahyan said that the relationship between Nigeria and the UAE will be strengthened by President Buhari's visit and the signing of the agreements.

When you hear of things like this, you think of ultraconservative, patriarchal societies. Stretch your imagination all you want but one particular nation doesn't come to mind. A man in America who caught his wife sending nude pictures and erotic messages made her walk down the street naked while he taped the humiliating affair. What's more, it didn't happen in the religiously conservative south but in liberal New York.

In the disturbing clip, the man trails the visibly shaken woman - who covers her modesty in nothing but a white towel.

As he follows her, he shouts 'she's a tart', 'b****' and 'w****' and berates her for messaging seven other men. As the woman walks down the street in New York, with the towel wrapped round her, he shouts in Spanish: 'Take off your towel! Co-operate b****. Show what you are, so pretty and so great. She's a tart. Let's go. Let's go. Say hi to the camera and say why you're doing this.

'Take off your towel and pay the price for the shame I feel after telling you how pretty you were and that I wanted to start a family with you, but it the meantime you were talking to seven other men.'

The woman retorted: 'But not to have sex with them.'

This only served to anger him further and he scoffed: 'Oh wow, not to have sex! But conversations about kissing, with "love", "babe" and the pictures.'

As she continued to walk away from him, he said: 'Take off your towel. You're going to pay the price like a w****'.

'Since you're a w****, pose like a w****. Damn w****'

'Now the guys you're talking to will see if you're worth it, talking to seven men while I was with you.'

He then ripped the towel from her, leaving her completely naked in the street, apart from a pair of boots. 

As she tried to hide between parked cars, he continued to hurl insults at her. She then tried to cover her modesty with the protective sheet for a motorbike.

As she stood with the sheet wrapped round her, he said: 'Now, like that, yes. That's what you're worth.

'Do you really think I'm going to stay with you while you're sending and receiving naked pictures, you damn b****?'

She then replied saying: 'Give me the towel.'

But he refuses, telling her bluntly: 'This is what you deserve.'  

Predictably, the video provoked outrage from many people on social media.

One wrote: 'I don't know what she did and I don't care. Nobody deserves to be humiliated [like that].'

Another commented: 'Maybe this is just a hint why she was talking to other men...'.

27 Year Old Woman Tells Terrifying Story Of How Her Father Uses Her To Make Money

Pictured is a 27-year-old woman, Funke Gbadebo, who has accused her father of “using” her to make money without any benefit for her.

She explained to The Nation yesterday that her father has been giving her out to work for people as maid and collecting her entitlements upfront.

“I was 18 when my father said one of his cousins volunteered to cater for my well-being. Few months after I got there, I got to know they were not related to my father in any way and that I was hired as a maid,” she said.

Her father, Najeem Gbadebo, denied to react to her claims, abusing our reporter who called him on phone.

Funke said when her madam realised that she was sad about what her father did; she enrolled her in an hairdressing shop.

She said her suffering began when her father asked her to drop out of school.

“I was in SS2 when I dropped out of school and since then, I have been working for my father. I worked as a maid for five years and when I asked for my pay, I was told my father collected my allowance for the years I spent. Combining hairdressing training wasn’t easy because I woke up at 4am daily to take care of my bosses’ children and sometimes they called in between to send me on errands. It got to a point I felt there was no progress in my life so I left and returned to my father. I had nothing on me when I returned to him. Even the N50,000 my boss gave me when she knew I wasn’t aware of my father’s plans, he collected it from me.”

Nigerian man on Greater Manchester Police Most Wanted list for alleged rape

Jonah Okoji ,42, of south Manchester is wanted by Greater Manchester Police for a number of alleged rapes that took place in the Levenshulme area of Manchester between August 2011 and July 2014. He is also wanted for an incident of criminal damage linked to the rapes that occurred in July 2014. The police believe that Okoji - also known as Joe Helma - has possibly moved to Ireland.

Lassa fever kills two in Plateau as Delta state records first case

Two people lost their lives after they contracted the now prevalent Lassa fever in Plateau state. The State commissioner for Health, Dr. Kuden Kamshak who confirmed the death of the two victims yesterday January 18th, said they died at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) where they were being treated. This brings to three the number of people that have died from the disease in Plateau state.

Meanwhile a 65 year old woman has been diagnosed with the deadly fever in Delta state. The unidentified woman who is from Ifiogwari village, Ayamelunu, Anambra state, is said to have come to Asaba for treatment after a suffering prolonged fever. She was first admitted at St. Joseph’s Hospital, from where she was referred to Federal Medical Centre, Asaba when her conditioned worsened. The case was confirmed at the virology laboratory, Specialist Hospital, Irrua, Edo State.

Lassa fever is a viral disease transmitted by infected rats. The rats spread the disease by contaminating food or water in any dirty environment. Infected persons spread the disease when their body fluids such as blood, feces, urine, sperm and vomit come in contact with others. Some signs and symptoms of Lassa fever infection include cold and fever, sore throat, headache, pains in different parts of the body, nausea, cough, diarrhea and general sense of being unwell.

Tanzanian President bans miniskirts in bid to curb the spread of HIV/Aids

Tanzanian president John Pombe Magufuli has reportedly banned the wearing of miniskirts in the country saying he believes the garments, along with short dresses, encourage the spread of HIV/Aids.

Tanzania Cultural Development Director Herman Mwansoko said all Tanzanian women have three months within which to "get rid of miniskirts for replacement with decent garments."

This is the latest sweeping move from the strict moralist who recently banned Twerking. Magufuli said the rhythmic gyrating of the lower fleshy extremities in a lascivious manner would dilute the much respected African traditional dances.

Following his sweeping victory last October, Magufuli has become an international hero due to cost-cutting measures that he introduced across the country.

Earlier this month, Magufuli is said to have ordered that all foreigners, including Kenyans with or without work permits, to relinquish their jobs to the Tanzanians.

He also banned issuance of Christmas cards by government officials, saying those who wished to send them out must use their personal resources.
