Shocking arrest :Ogun police confirms arrest of blogger over publication against Amosun's wife

The Ogun state police command has confirmed the arrest of Emmanuel Ojo, a blogger, for allegedly publishing a Facebook post where he accused the first lady of Ogun state, Oufunsho Amosun of allegedly laundering $300,000 in London. Ojo did a story a while back, alleging that the wife of the Ogun State governor was quizzed in London for money laundering, a story the state government has described as false. Mrs Amosun also denied the allegations.

The police public relations officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, while confirming Emmanuel's arrest, said the police command received a complaint from the state government over what they termed a false publication.

He said Emmanuel is currently being detained at the command's headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for questioning.
"We received a complaint from the state government on the suspect, and he was arrested. Presently he is with us at Eleweran, we are still conducting our investigations. If he is found wanting he will be charged to court accordingly." he told Vanguard.
Meanwhile the Secretary to the State government, Taiwo Adeoluwa, confirmed that the state government indeed lodged a complaint to the police against the blogger but however claimed the governor was not involved.

Falae admits 'Abductors freed me after 5m ransom was paid'

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Chief Olu Falae, yesterday admitted the payment of ransom to the Fulani herdsmen who kidnapped him for 72 hours.
Olu Falae
Olu Falae

A dependable source confided in Vanguardthat N5 million was paid as ransom before the former Minister for Finance was released last week Thursday.
Chief Falae, who received the former Chief of Defence Staff, General Alani Akinrinade in his residence in Akure, however, did not say the exact amount paid to the kidnappers.
Speaking with newsmen during the visit of Akinrinade, Chief Falae said his abductors threatened to kill him every 30 minutes until they received information that money had been given to them as demanded.
He said: “There were six of them with three or four guns and every half an hour or so, they will say, ‘Baba we are going to kill you if you don’t give us money. We are going to kill you.’
“On Wednesday, one of them came and said, ‘look we are going to leave here on Thursday morning. Since we cannot leave you here alone, if we don’t get what we want, we are going to kill you.’  And they said they gave me until 3pm and if at 3pm they don’t get the money that they would execute me. I thank God that at 21 minutes to  3pm, one of them came and said, ‘the money don complete.”
‘How I was abducted’
Explaining how he was abducted, the former minister said: “When the hoodlums came, they slashed me with their cutlasses, they said I was not cooperating. And they dragged me barefooted into the bush.
“After dragging me around for about two hours, they stopped somewhere for us to rest and there they asked me to phone my wife and tell her that I have been kidnapped and taken out of Ondo State by car which was a lie.
“It was about 2.30pm on Monday we started walking with very few stops until 2am the following morning. I suspect that I must have covered a minimum of 15km. That morning I did not take anything.
“ So all day, I had no food, no water and I walked close to 15km. How I survived I cannot really remember. I had no food in my stomach, I had no shoes, my clothes were torn to shreds.
“At some point, one of them gave me rubber slippers. We walked until about 2am. At some point, they called for an okada.
“At about 2.30am, the okada man took me away and I had no clue where we were going. Finally, they dumped me somewhere. We stayed there until I was released on Thursday.
“In that place, we all slept on bare ground, unfortunately, the rain came in the night and I was thoroughly drenched where I was lying down.
“One of them brought a small umbrella to cover my head, my head was covered, but the rest of my body was not covered.
“They offered me bread, but I told them I cannot eat it. I demanded for a bottle of coke, which was what I drank everyday to have the strength to survive and to continue the march, because they were permanently moving.
“They were changing locations at two to three times a day. I suspect because they did not want the police to succeed in tracing them.”
Confirmation of ransom payment
“The confirmation of the payment of ransom was made on Wednesday afternoon, I was not allowed to go until Thursday morning.
“So the following morning, they said I should go. One of them took ropes to stitch my buba which was already in tatters, so that  it could at least stay on me and I wouldn’t look like a lunatic while leaving that place.
“So when I came out of the bush, I was able to find an okada rider,  who gave me a lift to Owo.
“The place was about 10km from Owo town. The place was between Owo and Ifon. And I walked most of the distance between my farm to that place, that is about 25km that we had to trek.
Not tired, not hungry, and not afraid
“As I said, miraculously I was not tired, I was not hungry and I was not afraid of them at all. Each time they said, ‘Baba we will kill you,’ I will tell them, ‘no, Insha Allah, you will not kill me.’
“I did not break down, but I want to tell you that when I got back home I became completely exhausted. But I am now 80 per cent fit and I know in the next few days, I will be up again.”
Falae warns
Chief Falae, however, warned that “this sort of thing should not be allowed to happen again as it could result to even graver consequences.
“It is not because of me. As for me, I am a very humble person, but by virtue of what God has made me and the status God has given me, it is an insult to our race that a man like me could be abducted by a bunch of hoodlums.
“By the way, one of them told me that if after I had left them, talk nonsense that they will come and catch me again. That is the kind of insult I received.”
Earlier, Akinrinade  had described  the recent abduction of Chief Falae as an insult on the entire Yoruba nation.
Akinrinade asked the Federal Government to find a lasting solution to the spate of kindnapping in the country.
According to him, kidnapping is more pronounced in the South West now. He added that criminals now penetrate  Yorubaland more than before.
He said the recent abduction of Falae was the height of insult not only on the Yoruba race in  South West Nigeria, but also the nation as a whole.
The former minister later said that only two of the kidnappers could speak some English. He said they were between the ages of 25 and 35.
They were Fulani, they spoke Hausa.”
“The cattle rearers have been giving me a hard time for the past two or three years. Because I have a dam on the farm, so they like to bring their cattle there to drink water, then they eat other people’s crops,” he stated.
“This time they ate up my maize farm, two hectares. We took pictures, and it was videoed, the police went there.
“They were asked to pay compensation, they begged and paid half of what we claimed and we accepted it.
“That was about two months ago. Whether it was one of them who went to bring his brothers to come and deal ‘with this wicked man,’ I don’t know. It is plausible. Absolutely plausible.
“My view is that this is my home. I have not gone to farm in any other person’s territory. This is my home where I was born. I have every right to farm here and live in peace here. So, this is totally unacceptable.
“I once told the Commissioner of Police that if he cannot protect us and protect my farm, that I will protect myself. There will be self help if government fails to protect its citizens.
“It would have been unfortunate if that were to happen. The IG met me and gave me assurances that they will give us protection.
“I hope that we as a community in Ondo State and in Yoruba land as a whole must go into consultation to ensure that we enhance our protection. We cannot be slaves in our own territory.”
Falae said he was not surprised that the police could not trace and arrest the kidnappers because of the manner of their movement and operation.
“These fellows were permanently on the move. Day and night they were walking. Through farm lands, through water, through swamps…they were scared, they knew they could be traced with GPRS, that was why they were running around all the time,” he said.
“I was not surprised at all that the police could not trace them before they decided to let me go.”
Earlier, Akinrinade  had described  the recent abduction of chief Falae    as an insult on the entire Yoruba nation.
Akinrinade asked the Federal Government should find a  lasting solution to the incessant activities of kidnappers in the  country.
According to him, kidnaping is more pronounced in the South West now,  adding that criminals now penetrate into Yoruba land more than before.
He said the recent abduction of Falae was an height of insult not only  to the Yoruba race in the South West Nigeria, but the Nation as a whole.
“This is a big insult to the Yoruba nation. Chief Olu Falae was  traumatized in the hands of these hoodlums. This is a gentle man who
is making farming for a living and doing well with it,”
While describing the incident has unfortunate Akineinade  noted that the activities of the Fulani herds men are becomingworrisome to the people of the South West.
He said “the fact that the Yoruba people are hospitable in their  dealings with other tribes should not be a basis for dis-respecting
its leaders including its culture and norms.”
According to him “the Yorubas’ in the southwest region might be forced to  protect themselves if the Federal Government fails to compel the  security agencies  to provide adequate security.

Buhari to World leaders: Dismantling safe havens for proceeds of corruption

Following repeated occurrence of stolen funds discovered to have been stashed in foreign banks by corrupt politicians, President Buhari yesterday urged world leaders to dismantle the seeming safe haven in their countries where these funds are secretly being deposited. President Buhari said this while addressing world leaders at the 70th General Assembly of the United Nations.
"By any consideration, corruption and cross border financial crimes are impediments to development, economic growth, and the realization of the wellbeing of citizens across the globe. Nigeria is ready and willing to partner with international agencies and individual countries on a bilateral basis to confront crimes and corruption. In particular, I call upon the global community to urgently redouble efforts towards strengthening the mechanisms for dismantling safe havens for proceeds of corruption and ensuring the return of stolen funds and assets to their countries of origin"he said

On the Chibok girls, Buhari reaffirmed his government's position to return the girls safely to their parents. According to him, the Chibok girls are constantly on the government's mind
"One of our major aims is to rescue the Chibok girls alive and unharmed. We are working round the clock to ensure their safety and eventual reunion with their families. Chibok girls are constantly on our minds and in our plans" he said

President of the General Assembly,
Secretary-General
Your Excellencies Heads of State and Governments
Distinguished Delegates
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I would like, Mr. President, on behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, to congratulate you and your country on your election to preside over the 70th session of the U.N. General Assembly.
2. May I also express appreciation to your predecessor, Mr. Sam Kahamba Kutesa and the Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki-moon both of whom worked tirelessly to ensure proper articulation of the post-2015 Development Agenda and to maintain the focus and commitment to the ideals of the United Nations. I thank Mr. Ban Ki-moon for his recent visit to Nigeria when we held very useful discussions.
Mr. President,
3. Fifty-five (55) years ago almost to the day, my great predecessor, Nigeria's first Prime Minister, Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa stood on this forum to declare Nigeria's desire to develop and maintain friendly relations with all countries. He also assured the world of our country's commitment to uphold the principles upon which the United Nations was founded.
4. Mr. President, my country, Nigeria, has lived by this conviction, even when judgement went against us in territorial disputes with our neighbours. We respected those judgements and abided by them as a mark of respect for the rule of law and the charter of this organization. Nigeria's record in the U.N. peacekeeping is second to none. I myself as a young officer in the Nigerian Army did tours of duty in Congo and the Lebanon.
5. Nigeria has contributed to U.N. peacekeeping efforts in Ethiopia, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Darfur. Furthermore, we are proud of our contributions to other activities of the U.N. including the Peace Building Commission, the Human Rights Council and security sector reform.
Mr. President,
6. We are gratified to note that most countries have pledged commitment to the post-2015 Development Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with their means of implementation. The successor frameworks of the MDGs have come, Mr. President, with lofty aspirations and if I may say so, heroic assumptions! Nonetheless, they target development cooperation by the international community up to the year 2020. And they deserve universal support.
7. This is because the SDGs mirror the hopes and aspirations of much of the world.
8. I should stress that for the newly adopted SDGs to be truly global, they must be practical. In this regard, the SDGs' core objectives of poverty eradication and reducing inequalities must be met within the framework of a revitalized global partnership support by concrete policies and actions as outlined in the Addis Ababa Action Agenda.
9. Luckily, these two core objectives of the SDGs are precisely at the centre of Nigeria's new Administration's agenda. It must be emphasized, Mr. President, that Foreign Direct Investment supplemented where suitable by Official Development Assistance as outlined in the Addis Ababa Agenda are necessary, though not sufficient, conditions for accelerated development in countries that are trying to catch up.
10. In this connexion, I would like to appeal to industrialized countries to redeem their pledge of earmarking 0.7% (nought point seven percent) of their GDP to development assistance. With the sole exception of the UK, all concerned countries have, I am told to meet the UN requirement. But, Mr. President, with SDGs we have the opportunity to improve the lives of people not just in the developing world but in all nations.
11. The Secretary General himself has grouped the SDGs into what he calls six "essential elements" namely:
o Dignity
o Prosperity
o Justice
o Partnership
o Planet
o People
As a prerequisite to these and as we look at history and remember the terrible events that gave rise to the birth of the United Nations in 1945, I would like to propose a seventh:
o PEACE
12. Peace, Mr. President, is close to the hearts of Nigerians, as we are in the front line in the war on terror. Boko Haram's war against the people of Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon may not attract as much worldwide attention as the wars in the Middle East but the suffering is just as great and the human cost is equally high.
13. This is a war about values between progress and chaos; between democracy and the rule of law. Boko Haram celebrates violence against the weak and the innocent and deplorably, they hide behind their perverted interpretation of Islam. Boko Haram is as far away from Islam as any one can think of.
14. Many of my colleagues attending this forum would want to know how our new government intends to tackle the huge problems the government has inherited. Friends of Nigeria and foreign investor partners will be encouraged to know that the new Government is attacking the problems we inherited head-on.
15. We intend to tackle inequalities arising from massive unemployment and previous government policies favouring a few people to the detriment of the many. We intend to emphasize quality technological education for development and lay foundation for comprehensive care of the aged, the disadvantaged and the infirm. But for now terrorism is the immediate problem.
16. Accordingly, Mr. President, Members of the General Assembly, the new Nigerian Government which I have the honour to head, moved with dispatch to put in a bold and robust strategy to defeat Boko Haram. Nigeria and her neighbours Cameroon, Chad and Niger plus Benin are working together to face this common threat within the regional framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission. We have established a multinational joint task force to confront, degrade and defeat Boko Haram.
17. We have driven them away from many of their strongholds, killed or captured many of their operatives or commanders and freed several hundreds of hostages.
18. Mr. President, one of our major aims is to rescue the Chibok girls alive and unharmed. We are working round the clock to ensure their safety and eventual reunion with their families. Chibok girls are constantly on our minds and in our plans.
19. Mr. President, terrorism is by no means the major or the only evil threatening and undermining the wellbeing of societies around the world.
o Corruption
o Cross border financial crimes
o Cyber crimes
o Human trafficking
o Spread of communicable diseases
o Climate change
o Proliferation of weapons
are all major challenges of the 21st century which the international community must tackle collectively. Let me reaffirm Nigerian government's unwavering commitment to fight corruption and illicit financial flows. By any consideration, corruption and cross border financial crimes are impediments to development, economic growth, and the realization of the wellbeing of citizens across the globe.
20. Nigeria is ready and willing to partner with international agencies and individual countries on a bilateral basis to confront crimes and corruption. In particular, I call upon the global community to urgently redouble efforts towards strengthening the mechanisms for dismantling safe havens for proceeds of corruption and ensuring the return of stolen funds and assets to their countries of origin.
21. Mr. President, the world is now facing a big new challenge: human trafficking. This is an old evil taking an altogether new and dangerous dimension threatening to upset international relationships. We in Africa are grieved to see on international networks how hundreds of thousands of our able bodied men and women fleeing to Europe and in the process thousands dying in the desert or drowning in the Mediterranean.
22. We condemn in the strongest terms these people traffickers and will support any measures to apprehend and bring them to justice. At the same time, we are very appreciative of European governments notably Italy and Germany, for their understanding and humane treatment of these refugees.
23. Last year, our continent faced the dreadful occurrence of Ebola. We sincerely thank the international community for the collective efforts to contain this deadly disease. We are not out of the woods yet but we would like to record our appreciation to the United States, United Kingdom, France and China for their outstanding assistance in arresting the spread of Ebola and care of those infected in collaboration with host countries.
Mr. President,
24. Nigeria fully subscribes to and fully endorses Goals 13, 14 and 15 of the SDGs regarding Climate Change. In Nigeria, desertification and land erosion and degradation leading to biodiversity loss are real threats to our environment and we shall propose under the auspices of the Lake Chad Basin Commission a regional approach to combat these environmental challenges.
25. We look forward to the UN Summit on climate change in Paris in December 2015. This summit should provide optimism to humanity on addressing the looming threat faced by many communities around the world.

Mr. President,
26. We are witnessing a dreadful increase in conflicts fuelled by availability of small arms and light weapons. I call upon all member countries to demonstrate the political will needed to uphold the UN charter. For a start, a robust implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty will guarantee that small arms and light weapons are only legally transferred. Arms traffickers and human traffickers are two evil species which the world community should eradicate.
Mr. President,
27. As we engage in these annual debates, we need remind ourselves of the principles that led to the founding of the United Nations. Among those are peaceful coexistence and self-determination of peoples. In this context, Mr. President, the unresolved question of self-determination for the Palestinian people and those of Western Sahara, both nations having been adjusted by the United Nations as qualifying for this inalienable right must now be assured and fulfilled without any further delay or obstacle.
28. The international community has come to pin its hopes on resolving the Palestinian issue through the two - states solution which recognises the legitimate right of each state to exist in peace and security. The world has no more excuses or reasons to delay the implementation of the long list of Security Council resolutions on this question. Neither do we have the moral right to deny any people their freedom or condemn them indefinitely to occupation and blockade
Mr. President, delegates of member countries,
29. UN is 70 years old. It can count many more than 70 major achievements as the world's forum and family reunion. It is my hope that in the next 70 years, it will achieve control of climate, help to eliminate communicable diseases, eliminate major and local conflicts and therefore eliminate the problem of refugees, take major steps towards reducing harmful inequalities between nations and within nations and above all, eliminate nuclear weapons.
30. Mr. President, as this is my first address in this Assembly, I thank you and the delegates for listening so patiently.

Help return stolen money, Buhari tells World leaders

President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari addresses the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly September 28, 2015 at the United Nations in New York. AFP
President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari addresses the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly September 28, 2015 at the United Nations in New York. AFP
According  to  Vanguard : President Muhammadu Buhari Monday in New York called on the international community to urgently redouble its efforts to strengthen mechanisms for dismantling safe havens for proceeds of corruption.

Addressing world leaders at the 70th General Assembly of the United Nations, President Buhari reaffirmed his administration’s determination to frontally confront the twin evils of corruption and illicit financial outflows as he also urged his counterparts to do more to return stolen funds and assets to their countries of origin.

“Let me reaffirm the Nigerian government’s unwavering commitment to fight corruption and illicit financial flows. By any consideration, corruption and cross border financial crimes are impediments to development, economic growth, and the realization of the well-being of citizens across the globe.

“Nigeria is ready and willing to partner with international agencies and individual countries on a bilateral basis to confront crimes and corruption.
Buhari also call upon the global community to urgently redouble efforts towards strengthening the mechanisms for dismantling safe havens for proceeds of corruption and ensuring the return of stolen funds and assets to their countries of origin while proposing the adoption of peace as a seventh essential element of the Sustainable Development Goals adopted last Friday by world leaders in New York.

“The Secretary General has grouped the SDGs into what he calls six “essential elements” namely: Dignity, Prosperity, Justice, Partnership, Planet and People.
“As a prerequisite to these and as we look at history and remember the terrible events that gave rise to the birth of the United Nations in 1945, I would like to propose a seventh: PEACE.
“Peace is close to the hearts of Nigerians, as we are in the front line in the war on terror. Boko Haram’s war against the people of Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon may not attract as much worldwide attention as the wars in the Middle East but the suffering is just as great and the human cost is equally high.
“This is a war between progress and chaos; between democracy and the rule of law. Boko Haram celebrates violence against the weak and the innocent and deplorably, they hide behind their perverted interpretation of Islam. Boko Haram is as far away from Islam as anyone can think of,” President Buhari declared.
The President assured the global community that his administration was doing all within its powers to quickly overcome the challenge of terrorism and insecurity.
“The new Nigerian Government which I have the honour to head, moved with dispatch to put in a bold and robust strategy to defeat Boko Haram. Nigeria and her neighbours Cameroon, Chad and Niger plus Benin are working together to face this common threat within the regional framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.
“We have established a multinational joint task force to confront, degrade and defeat Boko Haram. We have driven them away from many of their strongholds, killed or captured many of their operatives or commanders and freed several hundreds of hostages,” President Buhari told the General Assembly.
The President reassured the international community that rescuing the Chibok girls remains one of the major objectives of his administration.
“We are working round the clock to ensure their safety and eventual reunion with their families. The girls are constantly on our minds and in our plans,” he said.
President Buhari condemned the new and dangerous dimension which human trafficking has assumed in the world.
“We in Africa are grieved to see hundreds of our able bodied men and women dying in the desert or drowning in the Mediterranean.
“We condemn in the strongest terms these people traffickers and will support any measures to apprehend and bring them to justice,” the President said.
Noting that the world was witnessing a dreadful increase in conflicts fuelled by availability of small arms and light weapons, President Buhari called on the international community to work towards the effective implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty to ensure that small arms and light weapons can only be legally transferred.
Reminding the global assembly that peaceful co-existence and self-determination were among the key principles that led to the establishment of the United Nations, President Buhari called for the urgent resolution of the question of self determination for the people of Palestine and Western Sahara.
“The international community has come to pin its hopes on resolving the Palestinian issue through the two – states solution which recognizes the legitimate right of each state to exist in peace and security.
“The world has no more excuses or reasons to delay the implementation of the long list of Security Council resolutions on this question. Neither do we have the moral right to deny any people their freedom or condemn them indefinitely to occupation and blockade,” the President said.
In his remark, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon commended President Buhari for his determination to tackle the challenges currently facing Nigeria as he welcomed the commitment of President Buhari to the Sustainable Development Goals and to preventing the spread of violent extremism.
The Secretary-General reiterated his condemnation of the continuing terrorist attacks perpetrated by Boko Haram as the two leaders discussed the security situation in the Lake Chad Basin region, as well as efforts to ensure the rapid operationalisation of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
He also expressed the UN’s readiness to support the Nigerian government’s efforts in its fight against Boko Haram, in full respect of human rights, international humanitarian and refugee law.

News News Woman borrows twins to defraud ex-commissioner.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a woman for taking a set of four-month-old twins from their parents to defraud a retired Commissioner of Police.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident happened on Sunday in the Agege area of Lagos State.
It was learnt that the twins belonged to Mrs. Ruth Uche, who had delivered three sets of twins and had been abandoned by her husband, Emeka, before the Lagos State Government came to her rescue recently.
Ruth, who had since been reunited with her husband, was said to have been approached by the suspect, identified simply as Victoria, saying she wanted to feature the babies in a film.
It was learnt that Ruth’s husband, however, insisted that she followed Victoria to the location of the purported film.
Unknown to the Uches, Victoria, a mother of two, had an ulterior motive.
PUNCH Metro was told that Victoria had been engaged in an illicit relationship with the unnamed retired CP and had taken photos of the kids, which she sent to him as the products of their relationship.
On the fateful Sunday, she was said to have taken the twins to the man.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Joe Offor, who confirmed the incident, told our correspondent that the unsuspecting mother of the twins, followed Victoria to the ex-commissioner’s house.
He said Ruth and Victoria began to argue over the ownership of the babies, which raised the suspicion of the former police boss.
He said, “What happened was that the woman told the Uche family that she wanted to use the twins in a film, and they believed her.
“But Ruth’s husband insisted that she accompanied Victoria. When they got to the man’s house, Victoria told him that the twins were the products of their illicit relationship; she was expecting the man to reward her.
“But the mother of the twins insisted that they were her kids. When the man saw the way they were arguing, he called policemen from the Agege Pen Cinema Division, and they were both arrested.”
He said the police had already released the mother of the twins after the suspect confessed that he deceived the Uches in order to make money off the man.

Rape :61-year-old guard rapes two sisters, gives them N200

The police in Lagos are on the trail of a security man, identified only as John, who allegedly raped two sisters for several weeks in the Anthony area of Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that 61-year-old John reportedly gave the sisters, Comfort and Precious (not real names), the sum of N200 to appease them each time he raped the girls.
He was also said to have warned the 11-year-old and 10-year-old victims that he would kill them if they revealed the secrets to their mother.
It was gathered that the rape, which reportedly went on for several weeks, was later discovered on August 30, when the girls started to complain about back pain and headache.
Our correspondent learnt that the girls then opened up to their mother, who reported the matter at the Anthony Police Division.
When our correspondent visited Fidella Street, Aladura Estate, where the incident happened, it was learnt that John had not returned to his rented apartment since the day the incident was reported to the police.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro, the mother of the girls, Rosemary Peter, who hails from Kafanchan, Kaduna State, and works as a food seller, said John usually asked the girls to bring food to his workplace in a take-away pack during which he took advantage of the girls.
She added that she was not aware of the incident, until when her daughters began to complain about back pain and headache. She noted that she also observed that her daughters’ private parts were slack.
She said, “I work as a food seller. John was one of my customers. He would say I should send a take-away pack to him at his workplace by afternoon. So, when the girls returned from school, I would send the two of them to take the food to him. I did not suspect that he was raping them.
“When they took the food to him, he would take them to a place and rape both of them. After satisfying himself, he would give them N200, and warn them not to say anything at home. He would threaten that he would harm them if they spoke up.
“Eventually, the two of them started to complain about headache and back pain. I was worried. On one occasion, I happened to be where the 11-year-old was taking her bath, and I observed that her private parts were slack as an adult’s. I was shocked, and I urged her to tell me what went wrong.
“That was when she opened up that it was John who had been sleeping with her and her sister. I rushed to the police station to make a report, but news had got to John that the girls had let out the matter, and he fled the area on the same day.
“But the police have assured us that he would be arrested. They told us to alert them anytime we set our eyes on him.”
A resident in the area, who gave his name as Fatai Gafar, said the police should intensify efforts in arresting the suspect, adding that the girls had yet to receive any medical attention.
He said, “The whole estate is aware of the incident. It is very unfortunate. The security man does not live here with his family. He was the only person staying in the place he rented, and he has fled.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, said he would get back to our correspondent on the incident.
He, however, had not got back as of press time.
