Nigerian stampede survivor says' I was pinned down'
Hamza Musa Kabir from Kano in northern Nigeria survived the massive stampede at the hajj by shedding his pilgrim’s garment after he was pinned under a man in the crush, which killed 769 people.
Reflecting on the shocking events that unfolded on Thursday in Saudi Arabia, the 55-year-old tall, thin trader told his dramatic story to AFP’s Kano correspondent Aminu Abubakar, who also performed the pilgrimage:
“We set off at sunrise from Muzdalifah and marched towards the Jamarat,” the place in Mina where pilgrims ritually stone the devil, Kabir recounted.
“We were more than halfway through the procession when the road was blocked by the police, which led to buildup (of pilgrims).
“Then the police blocked all the roads, leaving us with only one route. The situation became worse when the police allowed people returning from the Jamarat to use the same route back to their tents” where the pilgrims stay.
“From where I stood, I could see a police officer on a raised platform at a nearby control post beckoning at pilgrims returning that they should move on.
“Because those returning were moving in the opposite (direction) of the surging crowd, there was a stampede.
“People became weak from suffocation and heat. People couldn’t breathe (in the crush). Many collapsed, mostly women and the old and disabled on wheelchairs.
“I also was pinned down by this huge man I believe to be an Asian. I had to strip myself of my shroud which had become an obstacle to my escape.
“I raised my hand and grabbed the shroud of another pilgrim from Nigeria who was already standing on a fence. He couldn’t pull me up because I was pinned down by this huge man.”
– ‘Countless bodies’ –
In an act of desperation, Kabir grabbed the man’s testicles “and squeezed them which made him jump off me.
“This enabled me to use my other hand to reach for the metal bar of the fence, and grab it. I then pulled myself up with the help of another young Arab man who was standing on the fence,” reaching safety inside one of the camps where Kabir then passed out.
“I was so dizzy and weak and too weak to walk. I was spread on the floor and another pilgrim, seeing that I had regained consciousness, offered me his other shroud.
“People offered me drink and some food. I then realised that I had been bitten (on) the side, by a young man from underneath.
Kabir lost his backpack and most of his belongings except for a small bag around his neck.
“I spent, like, two hours sitting down recuperating,” he said.
“After that, I was assisted by another pilgrim from Niger to make it to the Jamarat and carry out the stoning rites.
“What I saw on my return to the scene of the stampede frightened me, because I just saw countless bodies lying on the floor covered in white shrouds, and I knew I could have been one of them.”
Still, he is not too frightened to return.
“I know I will not die until the appointed hour…. Hajj is very important to my faith, and no obstacles will discourage me from seizing another opportunity to come back.”

Shocking Real life Tale of A Rape Victim :Victim says 'He Prays Before Raping Me'
It was an ordeal that nightmares are made of. A 20-year-old Yazidi woman, who says she was held as a sex slave by ISIS, told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in an exclusive interview that her captor was a fighter who told her he was from the United States.
The woman’s story could not be independently verified. The human rights group Hardwired assisted her in going to the U.S.The victim, who asked to be called “Bazi” (not her real name) is now in the U.S. to testify to Congress about her allegations against the American – and to push the FBI to press charges against the man she said went by the name of Abu Abdullah Al Amriki (Abu Abdullah the American).
Her captor “was very white,” Bazi told Amanpour in Washington. “He was a little bit taller than me, with a black beard, black hair. I also saw his own family. He had a wife and two children, a son and a daughter.”
That family, she said, still lived in the United States; he claimed he was able to visit them several times. He claimed he had been a teacher in America, and showed her pictures of his family, she said.
Bazi told Amanpour she was captured by ISIS when the extremist group overran the city of Sinjar in Iraq, in August 2014. She was taken to Raqqa, Syria, which ISIS claims for its capital. There, she was auctioned off as a slave along with 10 other girls.
The American, she said, sold off the nine other girls and kept her for himself.
‘Before raping me, he would pray…’
In the hands of a member of ISIS, the punishment for not being a Muslim was horrible.
“He was talking in a bad way about the church,” Bazi said. “He said, ‘I wasn’t awake in my life … until I was converted to Islam.’ He said this is the right path for me and for everyone to live on this planet, to become Muslim.”
“He was telling us we should go back to the Prophet’s age, where we force everyone to become Muslim. Everybody should be a Muslim – either be a Muslim or die.”
The American, however, seemed content to keep Bazi as a slave for his sexual pleasure – albeit one, as a non-Muslim, that required him to cleanse himself after the act was done.
“Before raping me, he would pray for like fifteen minutes or half an hour. And after that, even if it was 2 a.m., 3 a.m., after raping me, he would go take a shower and pray again.”
After several attempts, escape
Despite the horrors she faced, Bazi said her thoughts were with the other girls.
“The first time he raped me, he tried to rape the other girl who was with me, but I told him since I felt I’m already raped, I don’t want the other one [to be raped]. So I became responsible for the other one.
“I told him, you do this to me, you can have me. Please don’t hurt her and don’t do anything to her.
“I told him to treat her as a servant for him, because he was sheikh, an emir, so he would just have her as a servant.
“So I convinced him the whole time until we were able to escape from his house.”
Her eventual escape came after several failed attempts. She told Amanpour that on her successful attempt, she managed to make it to a nearby shop and call her family.
Her family knew people in ISIS-held territory who worked to get girls out of Syria.
“I was never able to even think about getting out of there, since – although I tried many times, all the time I was aware that I will fail. And so even now, I don’t believe how i made it. “Everybody talks about this subject because it’s sensitive,” Bazi said. “But when it comes to the action, nobody does
Check out what this bride wore as a wedding dress and also the maid of honor wasn't left out........
I think this is a bit much for a wedding dress, but hey what do I know.
A bride has the right to wear whatever she wants as long as her groom, family and the church is okay with it but what this bride wore to her wedding caused major debate on social media with many saying it was inappropriate.
What do you think guys about this bride's wedding dress. Sexy or trashy????
Ella Martin's, Beninoise singer says 'I’m Divorcing My Husband Soon
Beninese singer, actress and virtual artist became very popular in Nigeria when a story broke that she and Nollywood superstar, Genevieve Nnaji, were love partners as lesbians.
The story made such a great fuss even Potpourri couldn’t ignore it and sought after the Beninese to get an interview which we got.
The Chocolat Baby crooner is back in the news again, not about any homosexuality saga but as a distress wife about to call it quits with her husband of many years.
In a private chat with Potpourri days ago, the singer opened up on a lot of things. First, she said she is tired of her marriage and wanted out. Want out? We never even knew she was married or not.
“ I have been married a long time but most people don’t see me as a married woman because I have been living apart from my husband for years now. My husband is German and we are legally married. We married when I was 14 years old. By the time I was 21 I was already tired with the marriage and I guess so was my husband. Both of us have been living separately for years now” she revealed
Her story has a note of depression about it, but marrying at age 14, is hardly something anyone would want to be all cheery about, if you ask me, and I asked her why she had to marry so early in life. There, another big revelation came to light about the beauty and sexy singer who has dated powerful men in the continent.
“I ran away from my parents so early and got myself hooked to my husband. I must tell my parents are Yoruba. My dad’s name is Olayinka Martins while my mum’s name is Fagbemi Oulematou. But I grew up in Abidjan, Cote de Ivoire and France” she said
Presidency Explains 'Why President Buhari Missed UN’s Boko Haram Meeting '
- The Presidency has maintained President Muhammadu Buhari is fully committed to improve national security and succour for Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.
This was contained in a statement by Garba Shehu, SSA to the President (Media & Publicity) in reaction to the earlier report that Buhari and his delegation to the United Nations missed the meeting to discuss and proffer solution to the problems of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Read full statement below:
Contrary to the erroneous impression that may have been created by reports that the Nigerian delegation to the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly missed a meeting on help for displaced persons, President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration remain fully committed to the rehabilitation and well-being of all persons who have been displaced or adversely affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.Indeed, the war against terrorism, improved security across Nigeria and additional measures to give succour to internally displaced persons have been central to discussions President Buhari has had with other world leaders since his arrival in New York on Thursday night.
The issues were dominant in the President’s conversations on Friday with Chancellor Angela Merkel, the King of Spain, His Majesty Don Felipe VI and former Prime-minister Gordon Brown who came with former President Olusegun Obasanjo to discuss the actualization of the safe schools initiative, which is of special interest in parts of Nigeria most vulnerable to terrorist attacks.
President Buhari is handling his duty as leader of the Nigerian delegation to this year’s General Assembly with the greatest possible diligence and will certainly not tolerate any tardiness on the part of the delegation in seizing every possible opportunity to advance Nigeria’s interests.
This notwithstanding, it must be realized that it will be near impossible for any national delegation, no matter its size, to participate in all the meetings that are simultaneously happening in and around the General Assembly in New York.
The meeting at which Nigeria was reportedly absent was not one the official events of the United Nations for which President Muhammadu Buhari and his modest delegation are in New York.
While the meeting referred to in media reports is commendable, it was not the only one or the most important of such meetings in New York that are paying attention to the problem of insecurity, migration and violent extremism in the Lake Chad area and the rest of the world.
Nigeria was represented earlier today at an important side event devoted to the North-East called by the UN Population Fund, UNFPA on “Building Stability and Resilience in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin Countries.”
President Buhari fully conscious of his responsibility to Nigeria and will accept nothing short of the best for Nigerians in the meetings taking place in and around the United Nations.
Anyone trying to create an impression of dereliction of duty, based on the Nigerian delegation’s absence at an unofficial meeting, is only being mischievous and uncharitable.
Check this woman who has 'died' 13 times, then miraculously come back to life

She has suffered reflex anoxic seizures - thought to affect only four people in the UK - since she was a teenager. And they are usually brought on by a bout of nerves.
"My eyes roll up into my head, my lips and face turn grey, my body stiffens, I stop breathing and begin to convulse," she said.
"When I go through it I'm out for the count and I don't know anything about it until I come around. My body somehow 'defibs' itself. It's such an unusual condition and I have no idea what causes it. I do something even superheroes can't do - I regenerate!"
So when she decided to tie the knot with long-term boyfriend Elfyn Morris-Roberts in April 2014, her family feared she might "die" walking down the aisle.
After much deliberation Rebecca, decided to have a pacemaker fitted just three months before the big day.
"I didn't initially want to have it. From the age of 16 to 21, I was told by various doctors that I was making it up and being a drama queen," said Rebecca, who is originally from Wrexham.
"So when I was diagnosed with reflex anoxic seizures I finally felt like I'd taken control. Mentally, I wasn't ready for a pacemaker. I didn't want to look back at our wedding photos and think something else was helping me live. But then I was told that every time I had an episode it would diminish my chances of recovery by 10%. I was living on borrowed time. That's when I realised I was being selfish so I decided to have it fitted - 54 years earlier than the average pacemaker."Adrenaline junkie Rebecca, who has worked as an outdoor activity specialist and loves canoeing and abseiling, said her wedding day went by without needing to call the paramedics.
"I have always had a fear of being in front of people and my father followed me around the whole venue because he feared something would happen," she added.
"But I was completely relaxed. I was so proud to be sat at the top table looking at all the people who had been brought together. They all know what I'm going through and they didn't pity me. I didn't have to hide anything from them. It was incredible."Former student Rebecca met love-of-her-life Elfyn during her time studying for a degree at Bangor University.
"I had been with him for eight months and then I was diagnosed so he was really thrown in at the deep end," she joked.
"He's found me after a few episodes but he's only properly seen one. We share a bed together and when my breathing gets shallow he frantically wakes me up asking if I'm okay.Source: Wales Online

According to her, most African men look at actresses as whores.
“…these men even jump into the equation—hastily labeling all actresses as wh*res based on what they’ve read online. And some of the men I have met actually get cold feet because of such unfounded speculations. For me it’s not about the colour of a man’s skin but his mind. The reason why I think a white man will work for me is because their mentality fits my lifestyle and my career. But if I meet a black man who sits well with my wants and expectations, I will jump for it” –
