A dog owner, Olafingbesote Afolabi of Idanre in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been arrested by men of the Ondo State police command over the death of a middle-aged woman, who was bitten by his dog.
The woman, Florence Aladenoye, was said to be attacked by her neighbour’s dog, which eventually resulted in her death, after being taken to five different hospitals over the dog bite.
It was gathered that Afolabi was invited by the police over his attitude towards the incident, which led to the death of the woman.
According to a source, the dog attacked the 56-year-old Aladenoye some few weeks ago, inflicting on her severe injuries, but the owner of the dog failed to take any action.
He said “the dog ran after the woman and bite her for no obvious reason and it took the intervention of neighbours around before the woman could be liberated from the grip of the dog.”
He said the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital before she was referred to the state Specialist Hospital in Akure, where she was subsequently transferred to Federal Medical Centre in Owo but all efforts to save her life was not successful.
Irked by the attitude of the owner of the dog, family of the deceased reported the incident at the police station in Idanre, while the owner of the dog was arrested.
Afolabi, however, told police during interrogation that the dog belonged to him, but said he did not immunised the dog against rabies.
Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Wole Ogodo, said the victim was taken to about five hospitals before she was confirmed dead in FMC, Owo.
Ogodo said “the dog owner did not show any concern over the incident until the woman gave up the ghost last week.”
He, however, said the suspect had been arrested, while his case case was transferred to the state Criminal Investigative Department (CID) office in Akure, for investigation.
