No fewer than 18 people were burnt to death in a road accident that occurred on Ondo/Ore Expressway at Igushin town in Ondo West local government area of Ondo State on Tuesday.
According to an eyewitness, the vehicles involved were an 18-passenger bus and a truck which reportedly had a head-on collision. This, the eyewitness said, caused the bus to somersault.
“When it finally landed, the bus caught fire which burnt all the occupants,” he said.

Confirming the crash, the Head of Operation of the state Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Akin Adedipe, said the accident was caused by speeding.
Adedipe, who stated that the accident specifically involved a white Mazda 18-passenger bus with number plate BWR 116 XC and a white Daf Truck marked AAA757XN, however, said one person survived the accident.
He, however, added that the survivor was badly burnt.
According to the FRSC boss, the deceased included 11 males, six females and one male child whose identities were unknown as of the time (8.30pm)of filing this report.
He said the deceased had been taken to the mortuary of the State Specialists’ Hospital in Ondo town.
