Douglas Kamasha, 36, of Hlalani Kuhle Houses in Gwanda Town allegedly went on to demand $3,000 compensation from Mthulisi Dube, 48, of Spitzkop for bedding his wife Euggine Makazvarwa.
An enraged Kamasha allegedly went on to vandalise Dube’s vehicle.
He turned on Dube’s brother who had come to rescue him and pummelled him with fists forcing him to flee.
Kamasha is now facing charges of malicious damage to property, theft, unlawfully detaining Dube and assaulting him.
Magistrate Arafat Kozanai did not ask him to plead and remanded him to January 6, 2016 on $60 bail.
Prosecuting, Moses Gondongwe said on December 22 this year, Kamasha impersonated Makazvarwa and called Dube to his house on a cellphone.
The court heard that at around 7PM, Dube arrived at Kamasha’s house where he parked his vehicle before entering the house.
“Kamasha closed and locked the door before confronting Dube accusing him of having an affair with his wife. He then took a metal bar and assaulted him all over the body. Thereafter Kamasha took a hacksaw which he again used to assault Dube before ordering him to hang himself from roof trusses using an electric cable,” Gondongwe said.
He said Kamasha left Dube hanging and went outside to his vehicle where he cut an accelerator cable, battery cables, engine cooling cables, eight core wiring cables and shattered the windscreen.
Gondongwe said Kamasha also deflated the vehicle’s four tyres.
“The accused thereafter got inside the house and conducted a ‘body search’ on the complainant who was hanging by the neck from the roof trusses,” the court heard.
The unemployed Kamasha allegedly took Dube’s two cellphones, car keys, Dube’s national Identity Card, driver’s licence and $450 which were in his pockets.
“After looting, the accused removed the complainant from the noose and detained him at his house for 17 hours. He later released the complainant after demanding $3,000. He forced the complainant to write a letter agreeing to pay the money by December 27, 2015,” said Gondongwe.
On hearing that his brother was detained at Kamasha’s house, Obert, went to the house in attempt to free him but ran away after Kamasha allegedly punched him in the face.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Kamasha’s arrest and recovery of two cellphones, car keys and Dube’s national Identity Card.Police officers who attended the scene saw the electric cable which Dube was ordered to use to hang himself still dangling from the roof trusses.
Dube was referred to hospital for treatment.
