Shocking ;Teenager narrates how she was gang raped by her 3 most trusted friends.
Hello guys,
Teenager narrates how she was gang raped by her 3 most trusted friends
3 friends Habeeb Adisa (25), Kehinde Aderinoye (25) and Ilyas Ogundimu (27) raped one of their female neighbours, a young woman, who was a close friends. This incident happened in a neighbourhood in Iju area of Lagos.
The victim, 19-year-old Adenike (not real name), a hair stylist, said she summoned the courage to speak about her ordeal because she did not want the3 friends to go free and do the same to someone else.
Narrating how she was violated by the three men whom she trusted most in their neighbourhood, Adenike said that there was no way she could have suspected that within the 2 years she had known them, that those 3 could have ever done what they did to her.
Calmly, but with a lot of anger and pain showing in her eyes, Adenike said,
“I became friends with them as neighbours two years ago when my mother first rented an apartment in the area.
“Kehinde began to make advances to me. But I told him we were friends and did not want to be in a relationship with him. I have always rejected his advances.
“Later he would tell Habeeb and Ilyas to approach me to appeal on his behalf to accept his proposal, but I made them to understand that I could not go out with him. But we still talked and sat together in the neighbourhood as friends.”
Adisa
Unknown to Adenike, the gentle disposition of her three friends was just a façade for the plan they had hatched on how to sexually assault her.
On Wednesday, June 17, 2015, an opportunity presented itself for the rapist friends to put their plan to work.
Adenike said,
“In the morning of that day, around 9.30am, I went over to Kehinde’s house like I usually did sometimes when I had nothing to do at home. I trusted them completely and usually went there to while away the time.
“Habeeb and Ilyas were there also. We were just talking when Habeeb suddenly came to me and picked me up. He threw me on the bed and I told him that I didn’t like that kind of play. I said, ‘If this is part of your playful habit I am not up for it.’
“But as he threw me on the bed, before I could stand up, he lay on me and pinned me down firmly. Kehinde quickly came over and started to remove my underwear. That was when I knew what they wanted to do. I struggled with them but they pinned me down and took turns to rape me.
“When I was screaming, one of them quickly went to the CD player, which was on at the time and turned on the music to maximum volume so that it would drown out my voice.”
When they finished, the three friends smiled at what they had done. They told Adenike to pretend that what happened to her was a mere sexual encounter.
“They told me to just forget what happened and keep it between the four of us. But I realised that if I was afraid of stigma and kept it to myself, they would walk free and even boast to their friends about what they did to me. They would surely do it to someone else,” Adenike said.
Bruised and battered, Adenike summoned the courage to approach someone she trusted in the neighbourhood and narrated what happened to her. She was immediately advised to go to the Iju Police Division and report the incident.
As soon as she reported, some landlords in the area rose in the men’s defence.
Adenike’s mother said that because the parents of the rapists are landlords in the area, they first threatened her that if she decided to make the issue a police case, she would lose.
But on Thursday, after the police had arrested the suspects, Punch correspondent witnessed as families of the culprits and other residents of the area came out to the police station to beg Adenike’s mother.
Adenike’s case highlights the increasing incidence of sexual offences in Nigeria, where majority of sexual offences go unreported.
On Friday, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Kenneth Nwosu, said that the suspects had been charged to court.

President Buhari's wife relocates to Aso Rock ahead of husband.
Hello guys,
President Buhari's wife relocates to Aso Rock ahead of husband.
The wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, has relocated to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, barely three weeks after President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration was inaugurated. Since they were inaugurated, Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo have been operating from outside the Presidential Villa.
This is despite the fact that both men have their official residences and offices inside the Villa.
They have both been operating from their private residences as well as the Defence House, official residence of the President-elect located at Maitama District, Abuja.
It was gathered that Mrs. Buhari formally relocated to the Presidential Villa on Thursday at a time when her husband was out of Abuja.
“Hajia (Buhari) arrived here (Presidential Villa) with her entourage at about 6pm on Thursday. She had relocated ahead of her husband. She passed the night here,” a Presidency official reported.
Another Presidency official said that the President is expected to join his wife next week.
Buhari had departed Abuja for Kaduna on Tuesday shortly after he arrived from South Africa where he took part in the just-concluded 25th Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
He proceeded from Kaduna to his hometown, Daura, in Katsina State.
Buhari is expected back in Abuja from the journey described as “private trips” this weekend.
“The President is expected back this weekend. He will be expected to join his wife here on his arrival,” the source added.
Upon his formal relocation to the Presidential Villa, Buhari is expected to operate for the first time from his office on Monday.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said that ongoing renovation work was hindering Buhari from moving into the Presidential Villa.
He said,
“As far as the President is concerned, the place (his official residence) is not ready yet. Workers are cleaning and refurbishing the place. Once the exercise is completed, the President will move in.”

Hello guys,
Sad! Teenager hacks aunty to death in Akwa Ibom (graphic photo)
According to a story sent to LIB from Akwa Ibom, a 19 year old boy named Daniel Michael Edet, (pictured right) a student from Idoro in Uyo LGA, killed his aunt, Glory Edet Ebere, 44 (left).
The boy used to live with his aunt but one day left her home unceremoniously. For months the aunty didn't hear from him but on June 11th, he showed up at her house and said he wanted to return home. The woman who lived alone told him he was no more welcomed in her house, that he should go back to wherever he was coming from. Daniel then asked for money to go back and the aunt said she had no money to give him. A quarrel ensued and Daniel attacked his aunt. He stabbed her multiple times, killing her. He then stole her car keys, locked her corpse inside the house and left.
There's a photo of her dead body after the cut...*viewer discretion advised*
Later Daniel returned to the home with his friend, one Ekemini Effiong James (pictured above) and together they dragged the corpse of Glory Ebere into the bedroom. Both of them cooked, ate and passed a night in the same house.
Narrating how they were caught, Akwa Ibom Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, Mike Okoli, said when neighbours noticed the two boys at the house with no sign of the woman for days, they became suspicious. When the two boys tried to get rid of the body, a vigilant neighbour accosted them which led to their arrest.
Upon investigation, Daniel admitted to killing his aunt alone. He said - "Ekemini Effiong James did not kill, but was aware since he slept in the same room."
The suspects will soon appear in court. The aunts body below...

Meet the 58 year old grandma whose beauty causes car crashes, makes men weep
Hello guys ,
Meet the 58 year old grandma whose beauty causes car crashes, makes men weep
A 58-year-old grandmother believes other women are intimidated by her looks, because she is so beautiful, her features have reduced men to tears. She also believes she looks 35..
Stephanie Arnott, who lives with husband Ian, 66, in Maidstone, Kent, says she believes she has the face and the figure of a women 20 years younger, which she puts down to 'luck and good genes'.
Mrs Arnott, who has one daughter and one grandchild, said her partner enjoys all the attention she gets from other men - but has also noticed that women are jealous of his wife.
She said:
'Women can be intimidated by me because of the way I look, dress and speak. I have class, elegance and beauty, which are all powerful assets. 'I never used to realise that other women were jealous of me, but now I see it.
Women even frown at me on the street - something my husband’s noticed too.'But that's what happens when you are 58 with the face and figure of a 35-year-old. It's all natural aswell. I put it all down to luck and good genes.'
Mrs Arnott, who believes her looks have almost caused car crashes and even cleans her car while wearing a bikini, said she doesn't work out - even though 'for some strange reason my body looks as though I do'.
'My ex-husband used to get jealous but my husband Ian loves the attention I get. He laps it up and even sometimes likes to walk behind me on the pavement just to see what happens.
People inevitably stare at me as I go by and people try and chat me up.'I’ve had all sorts of approached by men. I’ve had notes left on my windscreen.
'Once when I lived in a flat and there was scaffolding up outside a guy climbed up and left a note on my bedroom window. It said: “I’d love to wine and dine you” but I didn’t take him up the offer.
Mrs Arnott, who was married before she met her current husband and has a 38-year-old daughter, said she has always been able to 'pick and choose' her men, something which she believes is 'difficult' for other women to accept.
'Until recently (when I’ve lost my looks slightly) I used to cause near-accidents on the streets. People would get distracted by me and have to slam their brakes on.'I remember walking by a crossroad with a friend once.
The man at the wheel took a double take at me and there was a very near crash.'I am used to people looking at me. It’s always been so overwhelming - like I’m in the wrong place so I’m used to pretending not to see.
I feel a bit silly saying but it’s true.'I’ve also had men getting emotional on me. I can be talking to someone and then I’ll notice they are getting soppy and tearful – and trying to hold back tears.
On men crying for her
It’s happened on blind dates or even talking to someone in the queue in the supermarket.'I think it’s because they fall in love at first sight - but obviously they are not going to admit that.'It sounds strange because most people haven’t experienced it but I’m just being honest.
Mrs Arnott said compared to most people, she believes she looks as young as a 30-year-old, 'apart from a few wrinkles'.
She added: 'People think I’m a superstar and guess my age at 35. I always look like I’ve just walked off a movie set. People are always surprised to see someone as glamorous as me walking around.I also like to clean the car in bikini, which gets me rather a lot of attention. If it’s a sunny day, I think "why not?
Mrs Arnott said she has dated 'lots' of wealthy men over the years, and once dated a tycoon whose friends told her she was the 'most suitable' women he had ever met.
'But he wanted children and I was used to gallivanting around the world on ships with my first husband, who was also wealthy, and I didn’t want more kids,' she said.
I remember walking into a pub once, the day after Miss World had been on TV, and a guy stopped me and said: ‘Where the hell were you last night? You should have won Miss World".
My top tip for woman to look their best is to always look fresh-faced. Wear a bit of mascara, fill in some eyebrow, if they have been over-plucked and wear a dash of lip liner with a gloss.

Former Rivers commissioner whose SUV was taken by new govt releases statement
Hello guys ,
Former Rivers commissioner whose SUV was taken by new govt releases statement
Yesterday June 18th, the SUV belonging to one of former Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi's commissioners, Ibim Semenitari was taken by the new Rivers state govt who sent police to her house to recover the car. Mrs Ibim has released a statement on the matter. Read below..
On Thursday June 18, 2015, over 10 policemen armed with machine guns and in two trucks - One Ford Transit and One Hilux arrived my residence, No 12 A Ernest Ikoli Street, Old G.R.A Port Harcourt. Without either a search warrant, letter or precious information, they forced their way into my premises.
My security guard on duty requested to know their mission and who sent them. They refused to disclose either, but went round taking photographs and videoing my premises. The security guard got in touch with my assistant who spoke with the men, explaining to them that I was out of town and again requested to know their mission and purpose. Again they declined insisting on seeing me first. She then got in touch with me by phone as we were uncertain as to the identity of the policemen in question.
Upon further investigation and after about 3 hours of them laying siege on my premise, I was told that they were from Rivers State Government House and had been sent to recover vehicles in my possession. They attempted to break into a Range Rover Jeep belonging to my Husband and bought long before I was made Commissioner in Rivers State Government, damaging the front door. The vehicle in question contrary to the lies being paraded is not an armoured vehicle and has never at any point belonged to the Rivers State Government nor its agents including myself as Commissioner of Information.
By the time I finally made contact with them and expressed my displeasure, they insisted that they would take away a Lexus jeep duly allocated to me as Commissioner of Information and which by law I am entitled to leave with upon leaving office.
The monetization policy of the government allows public officers to leave government with their official vehicles as this is in lieu of vehicle, allowance, transport and other allowances, which they cannot draw because of the monetization policy of 2002. Mr. Nyesom Wike served as Chief of Staff, and upon departure left with all the vehicles he used as Chief of Staff. This has been the practice since this democratic dispensation when President Olusegun Obassanjo instituted the monetisation policy.
Having served as Commissioner for two tenures, I am entitled to my status cars and have proof of allocation. While I understand that Mr. Wike feels a dire need to destroy the reputation of Governor Amaechi and all those worked with him, it is unacceptable that he will engage in brigandage, thuggery and underhand tactics to do so. A simple letter from any government official requesting me to make a submission or tender documentation would have been the appropriate way to go and I would have willingly tendered all the relevant documents to them.
Breaking into my home, invading my privacy, damaging my property and removing property from my premises is inappropriate and illegal.
I have chosen however to put out these details in the public space as it is apparent that for some persons only a destruction of my hard earned reputation would do and this I would not accept. My records in the Ministry of Information are crystal clear I hope that Mr. Nyesom Wike is able to say same about his tenure in every office he has held.
Forcing their home into my home unlawfully isn’t the appropriate way for any government that claims legitimacy to behave.

Shocking But Real : Woman hands 14 year old to rapist after she was paid.
Hello guys,
Photo: Woman hands 14 year old to rapist after she was paid.
A 25-year-old Abia state indigene, Nnena Okoro has been arrested and arraigned before an Apapa High Court for conniving with a rapist to lure a 14 year old girl, Faith (not real name) pictured above from her home where she lived with her aunt in Sumoratu Estate, off Ojo Road, Lagos State to a hotel in Wowo street in Ojo Lagos where she was raped on May 16th.
Punch reports that Nnena who resides in the same area with Faith and was the little girl's confidant, had on the day of the incident asked Faith to get her some mangoes at Barracks area. When they got to Wowo street, she lured the girl into the hotel which is located on the same street, and handed her to the rapist.
Narrating what happened, Faith said
"Aunty Nnena (Okoro) said I should follow her to buy mangoes in Barracks Lane. She did not like the mangoes they had there and she said we should go to Ojo Road. We went to a hotel and met a man, who she called her friend. Aunty Nnena told me to enter a room. Suddenly, both of them dragged me to the bed. Nnena held my hand and covered my mouth with a cloth.
The man pulled off my trousers and raped me. He left the hotel immediately he finished doing it and said he had paid Aunty Nnena. I went outside crying. It was one woman around the area that helped to clean the blood coming out from my private parts when she saw me. She later took me to the Layeni Police Station."she said
Nnena in her confessional statement denied taking Faith to the rapist
"Faith is my friend. On the fateful day, we both went to buy mangoes on Ojo Road. On getting to a hotel at Tolu, one man called her.
They both discussed and the man paid N500 to the hotel attendant and they entered the room. I later left them inside the room to ease myself. It was when I came back that she told me that she was raped. I did not know that she was a virgin. We have never discussed anything like that before.
Her pants were stained with blood. I have never seen the man before that day, but I can recognize him if I see him again.”
Nnena has been arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate court on a two count charge, and had pleaded not guilty to the crime. The presiding magistrate, Mr. P.A. Adekomaya, after hearing her defense, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 and adjourned the case till June 22, 2015.
A test carried out on Faith showed her hymen had been ruptured.

Dad goes to daycare to pick up daughter catches worker doing the unthinkable.
Hello guys ,
Dad goes to daycare to pick up daughter catches worker doing the unthinkable.
When an unnamed Washington state father arrived at his daughter’s daycare to take her home, what he found was probably the worse possible situation a parent can stumble upon.
At first, he didn’t know where his 5-year-old daughter was, but he quickly discovered her in the classroom crouching behind a bookshelf in fear as her 31-year-old teacher was allegedly raping her.
According to the teacher, the Kid’s Country childcare center teacher was simply playing an innocent game of “tickle fight,” but according to the young girl, described as articulate and smart, that was far from the truth.
Wisely, the father took his daughter away and, on the ride home, contacted Child Protective Services.
The young girl described to both her father and CPS officials exactly what the teacher had done to her and even told them that he had “raped” her. Her above-average intelligence reportedly allowed her to provide details about the alleged sexual assault that led to the quick arrest of the perverted teacher.
Describing the incident, the girl explained that the teacher wasn’t tickling her at all, rather, his hand had touched her in inappropriate places on her body. The teacher, apparently caught in the act, tried to excuse those inappropriate touches as an “accidental slip of the hand.”
The unidentified man is awaiting his day in court at the King County jail, where he’ll hopefully be punished to the fullest extent that the law allows.

Buhari reportedly orders the disposal of 9 Presidential aircrafts to cut cost .
Hello guys ,
Buhari reportedly orders the disposal of 9 Presidential aircrafts to cut cost.
There are reports that President Buhari has directed that nine of the VIP transport aircraft under the presidential fleet should be sold as part of the federal government’s cost measures.
Industry sources said that the presidential fleet, which are registered as Nigerian Air Force aircraft, is one of the largest in Africa and the third largest in Nigeria after Arik Air and Aerocontractors.
According to a report by ThisDay, an aviation source, who is aware of the directive to sell the aircraft, said the presidency has a number of serviceable and unserviceable aircraft that need to be disposed of in order to reduce the amount spent by the federal government for aircraft maintenance annually.
“Nine, which still have market value, are to be sold immediately to reduce maintenance costs,” he said.
For years, the federal government has spent over N12 billion annually for the maintenance of the presidential fleet.
Although information on the exact size of the fleet is treated as classified information, the fleet, according to aviation sources, is believed to comprise about 16 aircraft, chief of which is the Boeing 738 BBJ, NAF 001 or Eagle One, used by the president for his travels.
With its luxury configuration comprising a master bedroom, washrooms and showers, a conference and dinning area, and a living area, the plane seats 25 to 50 passengers and would cost at least $100 million to replace today.
Eagle One can spend 12 hours in the air, covering 11,489 kilomtres or 6,200 nautical miles.
In addition to the Boeing 733 reserved for the president, the fleet boasts two Gulfstream 550 jets. The Gulfstream 550 can seat eight to 18 passengers, depending on the configuration, and has a cruiser range of 12,501 kilometres or 6,750 nautical miles. A new luxury Gulfstream 550 would cost an estimated $53.5 million.
According to Wikipedia, other planes in the Nigerian Air Force VIP transport fleet include two Dassault Falcon 7X jets, o ne Hawker Siddeley 125-800 and one Cessna 550 Citation II.
Information from a Nigerian web portal and Nigerian Air Force sources further revealed that the fleet also boasts two Dassault Falcon 900 jets, a Gulfstream IVSP, a Gulfstream V, a Dornier Do 228, which can carry 19 passengers, one Beechcraft King Air B200, and three AugustaWestland AW139 helicopters.
Sources said each of the two Dassault Falcon 7X jets were purchased for $51.1 million in 2010 while the Gulfstream 550 ost $53.3 million.
Aviation experts also put the average price of the Falcon 900 at $35 million; Gulfstream IVSP at $40 million; Gulfstream V at $45 million; Cessna Citation at $7 million; and the Hawker Siddeley at $15 million.
It was also discovered that though all the aircraft are under the presidential fleet, about eight of the planes are reserved strictly for the presidet5tnt.
These are the Boeing 737, the two Gulfstream 550 jets, the Gulfstream V jet, two Falcon 7X planes, the Hawker Siddeley aircraft and one AugustaWestland chopper.
Others are reserved for executive airlift. Aircraft used for this function include the two Falcon 900 planes, the Dornier, the Cessna Citation, the Beechracft King Air, and two AugustaWestland choppers.
Aircraft reserved for executive airlift are used by the Vice-President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and could be used to convey African heads of states visiting or departing Nigeria.

Charly Boy Reflects on His life Regrets And More As He Turns 64 years old Today.
Hello Guys,
CharlyBoy Boy talks about life, regrets and more as he turns 64 today
Let me first start by saying a very happy birthday to Mr Charles Oputa, aka Charly Boy, one of those rare human beings we see once in a life time. He's a year older today. Wishing him many more beautiful years ahead. In a new interview with journalists, he opened about on his age, family and not living according to norms of society.
He said;
“I’m not particular about how old or young the number is. What I care about is the age of my mind and then the age of my body. From my look, my energy and all, I feel 35 or slightly younger. That is the age of my mind. Going by my experiences, my responsibilities, my wisdom and all, I should be about 87 years old,”
“I dress the way I feel.
My happy moments are when my usefulness is engaged, when I see the influence I bring into people’s lives, when I’m able to add value and make a measurable contribution to individuals and society.
He also says he never sees cherished ones off to the airport..
“I hate to say goodbye. I find it hard to do so. That’s why you may not find me seeing cherished people to the airport unless we are travelling together. Same for my relationships. I love forever.”
On his children,he said
“Unlike some parents who can’t truly love more than a child at a time, I love all my children in different ways and I see a bit of me in all of them, up to my siblings, grandchildren and all. Family is really what I have been blessed with, and my happiest moments have been family times,”
On regrets in life..
“Regrets don’t exist in my dictionary. I live life on the edge and to change it would mean doing things in traditional or conventional ways. To do that, for me, is to give up the ghost. If it’s not daunting and scary, it certainly is not for me.”

Apc Wans Jega ,Saya' Watch Your Utterances'.
Hello guys ,
Watch Your Utterances — APC Warns Jega.
On The All Progressives Congress, APC, Rivers State Chapter has expressed shock over comments by Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Attahiru Jega, suggesting that the massive electoral fraud perpetrated during the last general elections in Rivers State was not as huge as being reported.
The party, in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Chris Finebone said, ‘It is sad that despite the fact that the entire gamut of that exercise is now the subject of serious dispute at the Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, Prof Jega will, at the slightest excuse, attempt to publicly downplay the anomie his staff led by Dame Gesila Khan connived with the PDP to perpetrate in Rivers State last March 28 and April 11, 2015.’
For the APC, Jega needs not be reminded that the kind of unguarded utterances he has been making about those elections are subjudicial to the matters before the Tribunal.
“We sincerely sympathise with Prof Jega for struggling to shore up his reputation and paint himself as a superhuman before the eyes of the world. However, we believe that the Professor should be satisfied with the modest achievements the INEC has made under his watch and not try to forcefully lay claim to having performed extremely well.”

Discovery :NAFDAC alerts on revalidated expired yoghurt, fake wines.
Hello guys,
NAFDAC alerts on revalidated expired yoghurt, fake wines
LNational Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, yesterday alerted the public on the circulation of revalidated expired yoghurt, unregistered wines and spirits in the market.
Meanwhile, the agency is set to represent Anti-Counterfeit Bill to the newly-inaugurated eighth assembly, proposing stiffer punishment for counterfeiters of regulated products.
Director-General of the agency, Dr. Paul Orhii, who disclosed these at a briefing on the activities of the agency in the past week in Lagos, said already the agency had launched investigation into the alteration of the expiry date of the yoghurt known as Dunone Ultra Mel Yoghurt.
According to NAFDAC, a firm tampered with the expiry date of March 2015 of the yoghurt by carefully altering the last number in the date to read March 2016.
Announcing that the suspects had been arrested by the agency, Orhii said NAFDAC was working to get the source of the product and bring the perpetrators to book.
He said: “The public is, hereby, informed that the validity of yoghurt is six months. Buyers and consumers should be watchful of processed foods and always collect receipts upon purchase of any item.”

Meanwhile, the agency has intercepted a truckload of various suspected counterfeit and unregistered wines and spirits belonging to a businessman (names withheld) along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
Orhii said the most worrisome thing was that the importer used official government number plate, OGFZA (Regd.No.RV885FZE) assigned to Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority, to deceive security operatives, adding that the interception was made possible by vigilant officers of the agency.
On examination, he said, the truck was found to contain counterfeit and unregistered wines and spirits (J&P Wine, Red Label, Villiera Fired Earth Wine and Jelzin Assorted Flavours).
Others are JP Chernet Wine, Cask and Cream, E and J Brey, among others.
Prepares counterfeit bill for National Assembly
He, however, disclosed that the agency had concluded plans to represent the agency’s Anti-Counterfeit Bill to the eighth Assembly with a view to getting stiffer punishments for counterfeiters of registered products.
Orhii said the new bill is proposing lifetime jail for convicted counterfeiters, confiscation of their assets and the use of some of the confiscated assets to compensate victims.

Hello guys,
Rape or Child marriage?
Check out this cool articule by vanguard, enjoy guys .
A CLOSER look at the last laws the previous National Assembly passed in its final sitting reveals a trap – one of the most applauded laws, the stiff sentences against rape and sexual abuse, supports child marriages. It is a legal assault on our future. The National Assembly began its steep declivity to an indeterminate marriage age in 2013.
After public protests against making the age of marriage vacuous, it stealthy made a law contrary to the Constitution. Section 29 (4) (a) of the 1999 Constitution, states, “full age” means the age of eighteen years and above; (b) any woman who is married shall be deemed to be of full age.” How do we deal with a National Assembly that makes illegal laws? The Constitution is superior to our laws.
According to Section 1 (3), “If any other law is inconsistent with the provisions of this Constitution, this Constitution shall prevail, and that other law shall, to the extent of the inconsistency, be void.”
The bill that is awaiting presidential assent provides life imprisonment for rape convicts or for sexual intercourse with children under 11 years. Other provisions are 10 years imprisonment or a fine of N2m for incest, and child pornography, and 14 years for sexual abuse.
The bill appropriates Section 29 (4) of the Constitution but excludes item (a) that defines “full age” as 18 years. Once married, the bill says, a child attains “full age”.
One of the consequences of early marriage is fistula, a condition that leaves the woman incontinent; she smells from inability to manage her bowel. Her husband abandons her in search of his next victim.
Nigeria has more than 800,000 fistula cases, the highest in the world, all from child marriages. The proposed law circumscribes the rights of women, from birth.
Our Constitution in Section 42 forbids discrimination on basis of origin, belief, or sex. At what age would a girl child retrieve her rights? Can she, by “full age”, be eligible to vote, even if she is not 18, or sign legal documents? How would a society of fistula-ravaged women, divorced, abandoned, in their teens, raise its new members?
Did we not learn anything from Wasila Umar, the 13-year-old girl from Gaya Local Government Area of Kano, who, last year, poisoned her 35-year-old husband and his friends, 17 days into her forced marriage? A court has just freed her.
The Child’s Rights Act of 2003, Section 21, also states that any marriage contracted by anyone under 18 years is invalid.
President Muhammadu Buhari should not sign the bill. We cannot trade our future for the pleasure of paedophiles, no matter how lowly or highly placed they are.
